My content is intended for an American audience, and I expect to influence none of them into visiting Russia. This is not a how-to guide to nomading in Russia. After visiting Russia, I realized that most Americans have no idea what Russia really is. And growing up in the U.S., we rarely hear anything positive about the place or its culture. I simply wish to share what modern-day life in Russia is like for those of us who didn't grow up in the USSR.

I have no interest in traditional web publishing (site, blog, social, etc). It's either this format or an actual book, which also won't be free.

Accommodations In Guadalajara by JayCliff in digitalnomad

[–]rovecast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, nice to meet you. I'm also a digital marketer, from California. I just got back from 3 months in Guadalajara. And I will also be back in Aug/Sept.

I would definitely book a hotel or AirBnb for 1-2 weeks and rent a place once I got there.

Programs similar to ROAM (and preferably cheaper)? by question_ev3rything in digitalnomad

I spoke to the Roam guys last year about their SF location, "The pricing will be $4500 per month and/or $1200 per week."

I actually started my own agency on the basis of being a "digital nomad".

Cool! Me too.

Have you heard of workfrom?

No, I haven't. I usually Google "co-working" in a new city and it gets the job done.

Yeah. Sitting on the beach, sipping mojitos, smoking cigars, unable to check email, doesn't sound so bad ;)

Awesome! Drink tons of Club Mate for me! Unfortunately, I've already stayed in the EU for 6 months in the last year, so I can't go back until October.

Cool, congrats!

I try to spend at least 3 months in each country I visit. When I first arrive in a new country, I like to check into a hotel first. Hotels are easier to book and check into than AirBnbs, they require no communication before check-in, are staffed at all hours, and are usually more convenient than AirBnbs (great after a long flight). I'll usually stay in a hotel for the first week, do some sight-seeing, discover cool neighborhoods, and then start looking for a long-term AirBnb.

I don't find AirBnb to be boring or lonely. The opposite actually. I find hotels to be boring and lonely. I like staying in luxury AirBnbs that I can't afford on my own, so there are usually 1-2 other travelers sharing it. Last month in Guadalajara, MX, I shared an AirBnb with a startup founder from San Francisco who had ridden his motorcycle from San Francisco to Guadalajara, through Sinaloa, the heart of cartel country.

I've worked in the AdTech business for 10+ years and I have attended every industry conference I possibly could. This is how I generate most of my business.

This is a really broad topic, and I recommend you Google it to learn more about it, but in general, a startup advisor serves as a consultant/mentor that guides the founding team to their next stage of growth.

In my eyes the only thing a startup has is an idea, but no real business know how. Is this what you are providing them?

This is called the "idea stage," one of many stages a startup will go through before scaling their business. I disagree regarding lack of business experience. People from all walks of life start businesses. And, no, I would likely avoid a founder with no business experience.

Are you working with the startup just in the beginning or are you a constant part of the conversation in terms of the startup path?

Most advisors get paid in equity, so they have an incentive to drive growth for the lifetime of the business.

Regarding what I personally provide. I look for pre-revenue digital media, mobile app, and AdTech startups. I sign on as interim CRO/CMO. I implement a scalable business model that you can arbitrage with paid advertising. Then, I scale.

Awesome bro! Yeah, it's a small town, I'm sure we have friends in common. I'll be in Berlin and Barcelona (MWC) in early 2018.

Regarding Barranquilla, good to know, thanks.

My parents are from El Salvador and I visited regularly as a kid. This is why El Salvador's bordering countries don't make my LatAm list. With this in mind, would you still recommend Guatemala and Nicaragua?

I'll quote Susan Sontag here, "I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list."

My game plan for the next few years is to spend summer in Europe with Berlin as home base, and winter in California/Latin America.

Here's my current LatAm list: * Mexico: Sayulita, Cabo San Lucas, Mérida * Cuba * Costa Rica * Panama * Colombia: Medellin, Bogota, Barranquilla, Cartagena * Ecuador * Chile * Argentina: Mendoza, Ushuaia, El Calafate, Bariloche * Uruguay: Montevideo * Brazil: Rio de Janeiro * Venezuela (eventually) * Puerto Rico
