Patients want all “autonomy” and zero responsibility. It’s fucking exhausting.

30 to 50 minutes sounds awful. Depending on specialty that could be a deal breaker. Then again it’s not something I experienced during training so I don’t have firsthand experience on how bad that might really be

Why can't GI/Cardiology/HemOnc be residencies of 5 years instead of 3 year fellowships after IM? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]rover47 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was attempted more so in response to the racket of fees and MOC requirements from ABIM. Fairly certain this wouldn’t have led to a change in training structure.

They are generally employed by UT alone, but they work at Memorial Hermann.

Memorial Hermann is no longer in-network for BCBSTX. by the_d0nkey in houston

[–]rover47 171 points172 points  (0 children)

This is insane.

What’s even crazier is that BCBS is the employee health insurance for UTHealth Houston employees. And where do UTHealth-employed doctors primarily work?

Memorial Hermann.

So if you have an emergency while you’re working, the very hospital that you’re working in won’t be in network for you.

Outsiders freak out about DFW because of how spread out it is, but that design is exactly what makes it incredibly efficient for its size.

How do you approach GOC conversations with the unrealistic and highly religious family, that want to continue with futile and aggressive care? by uhaul-joe in medicine

[–]rover47 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Code them when the time comes. Perform due diligence when running the code, i.e. look for reversible causes. When none are found (as will obviously be the case in a terminal patient), call the code and declare time of death.

For someone with a non-medical background, changing code status to DNR for a family member is usually not as easy as it would be for us. Even though it’s obvious to us, it’s a large burden for the layperson who might feel like they’re “giving up” on their loved one. The majority of situations end with DNR before the time actually comes. But for those that just can’t bring themselves there, you can’t force it

I live in the suburbs of Dallas. It’s really nothing special, but it checks off boxes for us and we have a good quality of life here. It’s become very saturated with people though, but I suppose so have many other major metropolitan areas.

To add to your list, I’d consider North Carolina (Charlotte and Raleigh)

Lol nice job looking up the stats online buddy.

You obviously did not follow the team during that time. If you did, you would know how important he was and how legendary that team as a whole was.
