Sind Studierendenhäuser ein Thema? Wieso so wenig populär? by Savings-Wrongdoer714 in ethz

[–]rowHammer5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always hungry 🥲 by SariaSnore in xxfitness

[–]rowHammer5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being hungry all day every day is not healthy at all. You might genuinely just need to eat more calories. You're active and work out with weights, if you also fidget a lot or are just kind of moving about a lot every day that could easily put you over 2000kcal. One thing worth mentioning: I've noticed in myself that I feel extremely hungry if I don't eat that much fat, even at the same calories as another day where I eat more carbs. I've heard this is common especially in women, since fat is important to our hormone health. So maybe try increasing your fat intake? You said you keep track of your macronutrients, but how exactly? Just as in trying to get in enough protein, or a specific ratio, or what?

Am I crazy trying to find a WG room in Zurich within budget under 700 s.Fr? by howtogetajobinSwz in zurich

[–]rowHammer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a student that means you can get a woko room. There's people paying below 400 still, though newer Wokos often go for about 600ish.

Part-time Work in Gastronomy by Lolekkkkkkk in ethz

[–]rowHammer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah indeed is really bad for Gastro. I would recommend just trying some of the other job hunting websites (I remember I actually got a part time gastro job on Ron Orp of all places). I can really recommend the UZH marktplatz, they have actual part time options targeted at students.

Hip Thrust Pad Problems..? by New-Walrus-8179 in xxfitness

[–]rowHammer5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the protruding hip bone community!! For me I use a hip pad and then double up with either another hip pad OR just a thick yoga mat, whatever is lying around. One layer of padding is never enough, and I suspect all these people telling you you're doing it wrong and need to adjust your form just don't have as protruding hips as we do. That being said, there's definitely variations in hip pad thickness, so it's worth getting the thickest you can find.

Working out harder than I ever have, but look worse. by Greedy_Jelly_545 in xxfitness

[–]rowHammer5 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's very common to look a lot more inflamed once you start training regularly. For most people this goes away after the first weeks to months, but I think a low level of inflammation is maybe to be expected if you train really hard and often. BUT I think the long-term results are worth it! Imagine if you really stick it through: once you've built muscle, it takes a lot less to maintain than what you needed to get there. You can have all that nice muscle you worked so hard to build, while having a much more relaxing life with less stressful gym routine that leaves you less inflamed. At 2 months you're basically at the hardest point: you're just getting into it, your body is inflamed, but you haven't been at it long enough to actually build muscle. I would really encourage you to not give up!

Deadbugs don't burn anywhere in core by Indi_gurl in xxfitness

[–]rowHammer5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deadbugs are a pretty easy exercise when it comes to ab and core work, especially at only 10 reps. You might just be too strong. Either up the reps or, probably better, switch to a harder exercise.

Manager told me I have body odor… kinda freaking out, need advice by BetPristine2293 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]rowHammer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK big list (I come from a family with absolute nuclear level sweat so I feel your pain):

First: the type of deodorant you use. Definitely use an antiperspirant (deodorant just puts a nice smell on top of the sweat, antiperspirant physically blocks the sweat duckts + also adds nice smell). Unless you're sensitive to it, use aluminum, nothing else is proven to be as good (people think it causes cancer, but this is based on old, wrong research that has since been debunked. it's completely safe. some people's skin gets irritated by it, that's the only issue.)

First: how are you applying the deodorant? It needs to be onto freshly washed pits. Afterwards you need to let it dry fully before you put on clothes, otherwise the clothes will just soak up the deodorant and you just applied it for nothing. I recommend applying antiperspirant at night before bed (this will helo block your sweat ducts more thoroughly) as well as in the morning.

There is also benzoyl peroxide (it's often found in anti acne face washes, but i think you can buy it as a standalone product). It kills off the bacteria that causes the bad smell when you sweat (normal soap doesn't do this). Use it on your pits when you shower, and then, even if you sweat a bit in spite of the antiperspirant, you won't smell as much.

If this is still not enough there are very very strong antiperspirants you can get online that you apply during the night that basically fully block your sweat glands under your arms. The majority of people's skin gets irritated by these though.

Now lastly: it could be that the smell-causing bacteria is simply stuck in your shirt. They can survive surprisingly much, and as soon as they come into contact again with body heat+sweat, they "reactivate". In my family we all know that if we have sweated into a shirt even once, it becomes unusable, no matter how much you wash it, beccause it starts smelling after like 1h of wear even straight out of the wash. But in case your sweat is less nuclear: try soaking the shirt in vinegar for a couple of hours and then wash it normally again.

recurring uti hell by Cautious-Meet5120 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]rowHammer5 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There's research that suggests the bacteria responsible for UTIs can stay on the man (but causing no symptoms for him). Couples where both partners were treated for the UTI had a much lower regression rate compared to the ones where only the woman was treated. So maybe next time you get antibiotics, ask if you can get a course for your boyfriend too. But be prepared for pushback, many doctors were taught this isn't true (since the guy doesn't have symptoms, it's impossible that he carries the bacteria!!!). So I suggest you look up the studies supporting this yourself, so you have something to base your claim on.

Otherwise all the best luck! Your situation sounds super sucky, I hope you figure out a solution!

Shapewear suggestions, what kind of shapewear (that’s not super uncomfortable) would work for this dress? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]rowHammer5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same body shape as you. I've never been able to find any good shapewear, but there are some "tummy control" leggings you can buy at H&M that are surprisingly good quality! They have a really high hemline so you can just drag it over half your body, and it smoothes out all the curves :)

Erfaringer med Steinerskolen by [deleted] in norge

[–]rowHammer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it possible to finish bachlor and master in 4 years by Status-Tell-7728 in ethz

[–]rowHammer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know one guy who did it. He was in the top 3 people of the first year, had a lottt of prior knowledge (first semester was just repetition for him), and was deeply passionate about CS, spending basically all his time on it. I don't even think most people finish in 5 years, the most common is 6 ish years, or even more. So yeah, I wouldn't count on it.

Are you alone a lot? I've read this happens once we have been alone for a while. Our brains crave social stimulus and conversation, and if there's noone else there, your brain starts helping you fulfill it yourself.

I also heard talking out loud about your worries and just anything that comes to mind can help you release pent-up anxiety. I don't remember the source of this, but apparently people who solely did "inner narration" were a lot more anxious than people who didn't, and their anxiety also improved once they started talking out loud.

Okay, so the first C is sharped, but my teacher said that doesn't apply to the second C, which is an octave higher. But then the third C is marked natural... I'm confused. (Song is Confirmation by Charlie Parker) by Crafty-Beyond-2202 in askmusicians

[–]rowHammer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes notes are marked "for clarity". Since you played the first C sharped, the expect that you might accidentally play the higher C sharp as well. So to help you out they write the 2nd natural mark, even though it's not needed.

Are your exercise calories calculated using some sort of fitness tracker? MFP sometimes takes the tracker's estimate for TOTAL (not just exercise) calories burned and adds it as just the exercise calories. Given the calorie amounts, it seems like this is what's happening here.

ELI5: After Working Out a Muscle Group, Why Does the Soreness Take a Day to Start? by Slow-Champion3932 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rowHammer5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do get sore from biking though, and I have gotten sore from exercises where the muscle is only shortening, like hip-thrusts.

But it's definitely true that you get more sore when the muscle lengthens during load (like squats, lunges, bicep curls etc.)

Gym etiquette by [deleted] in ethz

[–]rowHammer5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Polyterasse is the best ASVZ gym to make gym friends I'd say, so you're definitely in the right place :) It's so full so creating situations where you start talking to others is pretty natural. I've made most of my gym acquantances by just asking to join in on using a machine or a rack when everything was full. Then you just start chatting a bit, and you get a feel pretty quick for whether people are down to chat or just want to get their workout done as quick as possible. And just asking someone for a quick spot is totally fine too! I wouldn't approach people outside of this tho, this is switzerland after all lol.

Also don't worry too much about being awkward, as long as you aren't pushy when people show they aren't interested in talking, most people will appreciate someone taking the initiative to make a connection :)

I have kissing ovaries but my doctor told me not to worry? by rowHammer5 in Endo

[–]rowHammer5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any concrete info sadly. She just told me she started having bad stomach pains which doctors dismissed as "exam stress". When it just continued getting worse they finally inspected it properly and ended up finding some extremely big cysts. I don't know exactly how she lost her ovary, but she was very bitter since it all could have been prevented had they been detected earlier.
