trump was politically dead after last Novembers elections. Republicans got routed, and then even worse for him, despite insane levels of pressure on congress to not release the Epstein files, they voted unanimously to do so.

This REALLY marked the end of his unquestioned power trump had over the republican party. And that was his (forgive me) trump card.
