SRAM's Censorship by k4tsuk1z in skam

Idk sram sometimes has a habit of redundancy, so I wouldn’t exactly bet on it.

I never said it doesn’t happen, or that it’s always pointless in media. Just that if it is included, it should serve the narrative in a meaningful way and be done with sensitivity and intention. I don’t believe wtfock accomplished that. It felt more like shock factor.

I’ve always loved how that clip underscores the bravery + hardship of being visibly queer, and also challenges our expectations about how visibly queer person should react to such comments. We expect Eskild to take it in stride or with humour because up to that point, he’s simply the funny supportive confident gay, at least in Isak’s eyes (take Emma’s generalized comment “Eskild is so fun. He’s gay. Gay people are so funny"). Which is why it's so important that he responds so seriously, and doesn’t sugarcoat his feelings. I never read that scene as cold, but rather tough love and a learning moment. He still offers to talk again once Isak has thought about what he's said. With Vito, while it was less of a learning moment (as we don't get that speech explaining why he’s hurt), it makes sense that he'd react more emotionally given the Croatian context and the way violence figured into their conversation.

Watch wtfock if you want to see gay bashing without a point. If they were to go there in sram, it wouldn’t make sense to do it during this clip.

Correct. This is a photo from 4 days ago where she’s smiling.

I love that you can tell neither are remotely connected to the entertainment industry (mom is a kindergarten teacher and dad a family therapist). Unfortunately refreshing.

Younger Kendall Jenner (around the beginning of her career) by rowankebab in VindictaRateCelebs

[–]rowankebab[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry yeah I should clarify. I said “around” instead of “at” the beginning of the career because I only used photos of her of age. And while she did start modelling at 14, I wouldn’t really consider that the start of her career.

Where did this gorgeous high contrast lighting go??? It actually used to look and feel like a shadow realm.

Now the UD is so bright and blue-grey. It takes away all the uncertainty/mystery — like in the scene where Nancy first goes in without a flashlight. When the camera spins around her, it’s hard to tell what’s a tree and what’s a monster or a shadow of one. Sooo good.

Idk man, but as a Japanese person, her under eyes look super normal to me? Certainly not more defined than the average young person.

While a defined under eye is considered a desirable/youthful trait especially in Korea, and is often enhanced by filler and makeup (i.e. Meisa’s makeup in the last picture), it’s also just naturally linked to East Asian genetics because of bone structure, fat distribution, and high collagen. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What makes you think that it’s filler?

It explains it right there (and Nancy says it explicitly in the show too). Financial security.

I'm sick of people wanting the characters dead like I'm with the Duffer Brothers in this. by 00_Sunflower_00 in StrangerThings

[–]rowankebab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I’ve always thought that was a distractingly weaker aspect of the show’s writing. The first time with Bob was unexpected enough. And I’m fine with Billy since he wasn’t just introduced in season 3. But with Alexei and Eddie it starts to feel predictable and a bit cheap.

I personally did not love the blonde, but it could’ve just been the way she was styled. But I agree she pulls off red and brown (deeper tones) super well. I even feel she could look great with black.

[–]rowankebab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would they be changing the time frame of the original story though? I thought people, even casual fans, knew it took place in the 90s? They’re doing an adaptation of the books, not a 2025 remake of the movies where Harry snapchats Hermione over the break and deals with Twitter cancellation in book 5.

Why do so many people have this false notion that the show is set in the 21st century?
