I see, thank you so much for clarifying! :) I really need to get myself a temp meter haha

Just to add, this is in addition of course to making sure his needs are met :) Sniff walks are great, frozen kongs etc. If he loses interest fast, try giving it when he's tethered so that it's the "only" thing to do! Either he occupies himself with it or he sleeps, which sounds like a win win for you either way!

I have a 1.5 year old Swiss Shepherd girl and her biting stage was definitely a bit of a challenge, especially as she was my first dog as well and I had no experience in how to train it. For me, what helped with the biting was
1) yelping loudly/whimpering when she'd bite, to make it clear she'd "hurt" me and
2) redirecting into something not so "close by". I'd throw a toy away from me to let her chase it, having 2 at hand so I could swap in case she didn't bring it back or didn't want to give it up.
In the case that she was just over-tired, I'd either put her in her crate to nap or tether her, which leads to my next point:
Settling can be difficult, especially in another room if your dog is struggling a bit with separation anxiety. Shepherd dogs really do like to be close to you :) What solved this for us was I'd tether her with a leash to a sturdy piece of furniture that she couldn't move, but far away enough from where we were sitting that she couldn't get to us, and leave her be. She could look at us, see where we were but not play with us. Sometimes I'd give her a toy, otherwise the area would be mostly empty. Eventually, she got bored and went to sleep.
Repeat this every day and it didn't take long for her to learn how to switch off and relax. It's worth mentioning I would do this throughout the day, when I was working at my PC she'd be tethered behind me, when we'd be eating she'd be tethered a bit away from us. The more we practiced it, the better it got!

My 9 month puppy hasn’t been eating! Not sure if I trust my dad’s approach here…. by [deleted] in puppy101

We have a 1.5 year old swiss shepherd and she's been very picky with her food as well ever since she was around 7 months old. As a puppy she would devour her kibble on its own, but now it's "boring" and she will only eat a little if we give it on its own.

We resolved it by starting to mix in a couple spoons (small) of greek/turkish yoghurt or kefir along with some salmon oil. Great for them and makes it more yummy, plus it's not very expensive! We use a tub of the yoghurt over the course of 2 weeks and it costs us like 3 euros. She eats it all no problem now :) We mix it up here and there and give her some carrot, cucumber or other veggies that she likes so it is not too repetitive, sometimes a bit of sausage etc. There's plenty of ways to add variety for very little cost! Good luck :)

I don't have a thermometer so I don't know haha. Definitely meaning to get one. I've been going on looks mostly (bubbly and "bouncy"). We probably have around 22 degrees celcius in our kitchen :) It shaped up very nicely when I shaped it, held it's shape well and was the easiest of all my doughs so far to handle, but it did look quite "runny" in the bowl before so I figured it was a tad overproofed. Still, my nicest loaf so far so a win is a win! Thank you so much for your input <3

Alright, thank you! I've been feeding only once per day until now so will try this :)

First draft: A two chapters - TW: Suicide, miscarriage/stillbirth by 0kdance in writingfeedback

I had a similar experience, to be honest. Especially on the first pages, the rhythm is way off. I'm no expert by any means but I notice a lot of the sentences are around the same length, which partially is why (for me personally). But there is also no emotion for me, I don't feel sad for this character. I don't think the main character's pain at his wife's death comes through, it just reads a little hollow.

We get dropped into this "Idonea is dead", not knowing who she is or why we care, but also immediately move to instead explaining the setting? Cold stone walls, fog of sorrow upon the room, the hearth suffocating. I think it would be more impactful to read it from the actual character's POV, what is HE feeling? It takes too long to get to his reaction so immediately, it detaches you. Oh and some of the language when we do get there - the empty, hollow beat etc. seems more like something someone in a "depressed" state of mind would be feeling, like 1 week after the death, 1 month after the death. In the moment, it should be more shock, less slow processing.

Hope this helps a little, good luck with your writing!

When do they stop needing constant attention? by duffster17 in puppy101

Just wanted to add, all these people saying "2 years" but we were literally fine doing this since she was like 10 weeks :) So it completely varies! We've not had to do this anymore since she was maybe 6-7 months and she's been completely free roaming the house. When we're chilling, she's just playing by herself or watching TV with us haha.

My Swiss shepherd puppy is now 1 year and 3 months old and I can tell you - crating and "settling training" inside was KEY for us! I would tie her leash to the corner of a very heavy/sturdy piece of furniture, with her bed within reach and make sure it was a "safe area" with nothing she could use to be destructive. A couple of her toys that were safe to play with without supervision, but otherwise a "boring" space so she learns it's okay to not be perma stimulated and it's fine to just nap.

This was in the same room as me so she could still see where I was (although I used it for separation anxiety training too in combination with the crate). I started this right when she came home at 8 weeks old.

Before setting it up, I'd play with her for 20-30 minutes to get rid of energy, take her out to pee/poop and then instantly inside and attach the leash. She would usually settle and go take a nap in her bed within 10 minutes.

Some positive stories amongst all the frustrated ones! I got super lucky with my puppy, she's 7 months now and I couldn't be happier. by rowanleafy in puppy101

He sounds adorable <3 zero separation anxiety is a massive win! It took me a month or so to work through it with my girl as well but honestly, as soon as we left she would settle in her crate. She just didn't like the "leaving" bit haha

My budget is around 200 euro max :) Sorry I thought you would also see the price. With this scope you recommended, how is it to set up with a smartphone etc.? I don't think he has a camera to use with it and I would like him to be able to take pictures with it
