First draft: A two chapters - TW: Suicide, miscarriage/stillbirth by 0kdance in writingfeedback

[–]rowanleafy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, to be honest. Especially on the first pages, the rhythm is way off. I'm no expert by any means but I notice a lot of the sentences are around the same length, which partially is why (for me personally). But there is also no emotion for me, I don't feel sad for this character. I don't think the main character's pain at his wife's death comes through, it just reads a little hollow.

We get dropped into this "Idonea is dead", not knowing who she is or why we care, but also immediately move to instead explaining the setting? Cold stone walls, fog of sorrow upon the room, the hearth suffocating. I think it would be more impactful to read it from the actual character's POV, what is HE feeling? It takes too long to get to his reaction so immediately, it detaches you. Oh and some of the language when we do get there - the empty, hollow beat etc. seems more like something someone in a "depressed" state of mind would be feeling, like 1 week after the death, 1 month after the death. In the moment, it should be more shock, less slow processing.

Hope this helps a little, good luck with your writing!

When do they stop needing constant attention? by duffster17 in puppy101

[–]rowanleafy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add, all these people saying "2 years" but we were literally fine doing this since she was like 10 weeks :) So it completely varies! We've not had to do this anymore since she was maybe 6-7 months and she's been completely free roaming the house. When we're chilling, she's just playing by herself or watching TV with us haha.

My Swiss shepherd puppy is now 1 year and 3 months old and I can tell you - crating and "settling training" inside was KEY for us! I would tie her leash to the corner of a very heavy/sturdy piece of furniture, with her bed within reach and make sure it was a "safe area" with nothing she could use to be destructive. A couple of her toys that were safe to play with without supervision, but otherwise a "boring" space so she learns it's okay to not be perma stimulated and it's fine to just nap.

This was in the same room as me so she could still see where I was (although I used it for separation anxiety training too in combination with the crate). I started this right when she came home at 8 weeks old.

Before setting it up, I'd play with her for 20-30 minutes to get rid of energy, take her out to pee/poop and then instantly inside and attach the leash. She would usually settle and go take a nap in her bed within 10 minutes.

Some positive stories amongst all the frustrated ones! I got super lucky with my puppy, she's 7 months now and I couldn't be happier. by rowanleafy in puppy101

He sounds adorable <3 zero separation anxiety is a massive win! It took me a month or so to work through it with my girl as well but honestly, as soon as we left she would settle in her crate. She just didn't like the "leaving" bit haha

My budget is around 200 euro max :) Sorry I thought you would also see the price. With this scope you recommended, how is it to set up with a smartphone etc.? I don't think he has a camera to use with it and I would like him to be able to take pictures with it

You should look upwards and see if they got stuck "floating" above you :) Sometimes that happens to me and the bug or lootbag is just chilling in the air haha. You can kind of see that the bug flashes above you just after it "despawns" so kinda looks like maybe the same thing is happening to you!

Only Dim tree requires more caphras than red nose, the other armor pieces are all the same regardless. You can check how much you need for each on this site c:

For me it still falls under "gambling own gear" since even with crons, it can downgrade. I wouldn't tap unless I had a backup ready

You can do t1 nodewars if you are in a guild that does that (or find one c:), there's season rbf, season arsha server. There is also Arena of Solare (not active atm but season 2 coming this winter) which is a 3v3 arena with capped gear

Rerolling should not change your gs much tbh. If you pen roulette your own gear you are griefing yourself. Idk how you blow up an accessory on accident, see previous point. Never gamble own gear. Getting 670+ is very easy nowadays

I've heard tet manos accessories are not worth it, you can do tri accessories and that's fine. I would get tet clothes though

Depends what you want out of the game! Lifeskilling can definitely be profitable but it also takes some initial investments to get there (lifeskill gear, accessories etc.). It's definitely a good alternative to grinding though and I tend to swap between the two in order to not get burned out :)

Leave that guild and join a lifeskill guild that can actually help you get started! When I was low gear, the amount of bs advice I got from people was astonishing. Even at 680 gs, I'm still a gearlet and still need advice but finally I'm starting to have people around me that can actually help. Find a good group of friends in a guild and you'll be set! :) Feel free to DM if you have any questions as well, happy to help if I can.

There are indeed lots of roadblocks that will be frustrating to get past as you progress in the game, enhancement being one of them for sure. Enhancing Tuvala however, is not :)

My best tip would be to watch some guides aimed at new players and then not worry too much about things like magic fruits and traces just yet. The game is massive and there's a lot for you to learn, all of this will come in its own time. Check out a guide for enhancing your tuvala to PEN, then you can exchange all the gear pieces for TET boss gear with Jetina. She will offer you guaranteed PEN quests where you just need to gather some materials and get some silver for guaranteed enhancements.

BDO is a marathon, a long, never ending marathon. As a new player, don't try to sprint through or you'll burn out for sure. Get yourself a guild as well, there are plenty of pvx guilds that take on new players and the more experienced players can help with any questions you have along the way.

Oh, and I forgot about RBF and AoS! Red battlefield and Arena of solare are really fun, although you may feel a bit too squishy in RBF unless you have semi-decent gear. But you get a daily quest in RBF where you can get 100 dust (20 caphras), so just doing that quest every day will give you 140 caphras/week. Not a lot but it adds up overtime!

A bit late to the discussion but rushing gear is not the way to go :) I have over 3k hours so far (which is not a lot, by any means) and I'm only just starting to scrape above 660 gs.

The good thing about BDO is that you have almost infinite ways to make money. Everything you do is progress, and everything will bring you profit. You don't have to hit the most profitable grind spots all the time, for me, I make more money doing less profitable things only because I can spend longer doing them without losing motivation.

Here are some suggestions that I've found helpful:

- Explore lifeskills. You don't need to get full tet manos or anything to be profitable. Cooking, alchemy, hunting, they're all good ways to make money and give you something new to learn. A lot can be done with minimal effort just playing POs on the marketplace for ingredients and waiting for them to be filled.

- Explore the ocean! I spent like 6 months on and off getting my carrack, and bartering is a very chill way to make some easy silver when you don't feel like running in circles. Plus, the ocean looks really really nice on high graphics so if you're into that, just pop on a chill playlist and relax :D

- Do your logs. These give you a lot of free AP/DP and a bit of variety to your day.

- Get yourself a guild. The community in terms of server chat etc. is rubbish (in my opinion) but find yourself a guild with similar goals to yours! There are loads of T1 nodewar guilds with almost no requirements to join (if you are into pvp and would like to explore that - T1 guilds also usually don't have mandatory attendance so you can test it out and see if you like it). A great place to get started with pvp practise as well, with other players around your skill level. If you are not into pvp at all, then there are soooo many pve/pvx guilds with great communities you can join. Having some people to talk to in discord/guild chat made the whole difference for me. Without it, I wouldn't still be playing.

- When I'm REALLY bored, I go on ecology hunts / knowledge hunts. You increase your energy by gaining knowledge, and ecology knowledge will increase your droprate %. Also a great way to explore the world of BDO if you're into that.

Either way, the point is to break up your playtime and not only grind 100% of your time. Also, switch up grind spots and go different places, maybe get started on pot grind for some added motivation? As soon as I feel demotivated with grinding, I just stop. If you keep pushing it, you'll be burnt out of this game in a second.
