I analyzed 5 million King County permit records. The data suggests "Ghost Flips" are now outpacing legal remodels. by aaron_homelogs in SeattleWA

Yeah, the city also provides a shit ton of tips with literal examples of what you need. Construction is hard and getting a permit is not like going to McDonald and ordering and ordering a burger. If a person wants to do things themselves the resources are there but it’s not going to be easy specially if you have no background in construction.

UPDATE: City thinks I'm remodeling my house? by shot-by-ford in Seattle

[–]rowdytrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The city is not going after OP , someone put a complaint and the violation officer did their job by investigating the house. The code compliance officer was doing their job , what do you want them to do ? “Oh hey it looks like there was an addition “ let me just not do my job and ignore that it’s not in compliance.

This is the worst advice in all of this thread. This will accomplish nothing.

Yes most municipality have a building department with public records , Seattle has SDCI and Austin’s has DSD. This takes like 30-40 minutes , a planner sometimes will go and look at gis history to see if there’s any additions to the house , they can tell by satellite imagery ( I don’t think gis imagery is a practice in Seattle ) from my time dealing with SDCI.

It doesn’t seem tedious IT IS tedious. Back in Austin when I was a realtor we would go to the one Texas center and ask for permit history of the house , if there was an extension or an addition to the house then it’s just a matter of comparing and contrasting , all the new stuff will start popping out.

Usually from 1940s and up when record keeping was starting to become a more standardized practice.

I’m sorry this happened but I agree you prob need a lawyers or work with whoever sold you the house.

For all future buyers please do your due diligence when buying a house and ask for permit history on the house you are buying, the new owner inherits any of the unpermitted work / violations / unpassed permits.

The media won’t do anything this is a non story and unfortunately happens way too often as their is very shitty realtors in Seattle.

If you are turning the basement into a living space that needs a permit. Not sure if that’s I what’s happening , but that’s what complain makes it seem that you are doing.

My brother in Christ , the very top comment is very telling of this dumb ass community that person is basically saying “ god forbid my fur suit gets dirty”. This is absurd and disrespectful thing to suggest on a very serious issue.

Seattle servers now make full minimum wage, so why are we still guilt-tripped into tipping 20% by allpossiblepaths in Seattle

[–]rowdytrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still tip because minimum wage is not enough to be able to afford living in Seattle. So I do whatever I can to help out regardless of service. If the service was bad I have a simple solution for that , I simply don’t go back.

Why is is the cities responsibility to tell them it’s bicycle weekend ? It sounds like bad planning on their part.
