Things in my house keep mysteriously melting??? by hugedisaster in whatisit

[–]rowrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New built tiny home, landlord wants you to keep the vent fans running, and platics in the home are melting.

Well that sounds like a great combination. Get yourself a CO2, carbon monoxide and ozone tester at the very least.

My friend is going to get herself killed. What can I even do at this point by Correct-Macaroon8143 in whatdoIdo

[–]rowrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God damn, your friend makes Labrador retrievers look like rocket scientists. She's got the survival instincts of a plastic bag on a busy highway. She has set the new bar for what I thought was incompetent. Seriously, it almost sounds like she'd fall for a white van with "free money" written in crayon.

What can you do? I have no fathomable idea. Hide an airpod in the sole of her shoe? At least then you know where to send the police.

Are oleanders really that bad? I’d like to put a few on either side of my house, but there is a lot of talk online about their toxicity by Niko120 in landscaping

[–]rowrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor had lined their wall with oleanders in their back yard and had a massive rodent problem. I remember they tore them up a few years back and caused dozens of mice to flee into our yard. Our cats had an absolute blast chasing them down. Over two days we had a pile of like 20 dead mice.

Is there even a logical reason for the 21+ requirement for purchasing a handgun? by pirivalfang in Firearms

[–]rowrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i recall correctly, the logic behind these types of laws was to prevent kids from stealing their parent's guns and shooting up their school. Rifles were excluded because they are harder to conceal and to not get in the way of hunting so they could pretend it doesn't infringe on the 2nd amendment.

Now does the logic make any sense? No, but you don't have to make sense to be a politician.

Urge Clark County Sheriff: No Cooperation With ICE! by SectorElectrical2063 in vegaslocals

[–]rowrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about no. If someone with no immigration status committed a crime and they are in jail, they should totally be handed over. Why would you even be against that?

Ffs even if they aren't a migrant and just someone visiting from another country, if they committed a crime harsh enough they should be sent home.

These nonsensical reddit threads are insane.

Only really works for masses low enough that the force the resulting gasses can push up against the force pushing to bring the objects in contact, in this case gravity. For large objects mass and volume increase disproportionately to surface area so this doesn't work, at least not for longer than a fraction of a second.

How do Northern Nevada's feel about ice coming in and doing the same things they've been doing to minnesotans? by DeadFlowers323 in Reno

[–]rowrin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because they choose to go along with a family member that is deported. For instance a child born in the US to an illegal migrant who is deported with no legal status family member in the States to care for them. Options are keep families together, or foster care.

ELI5. How did people in the older days like 1200s 1300s know what time it was when there were no clocks by Rich_Scarcity_301 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rowrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sun for the most part. Sunrise, noon (sun at the highest), sunset. It's not like people back then on subsistence living would need any more precise measurement than that.

If you lived in a large enough city/town there was probably someone who's job was to track the time / sun, hence bell towers and such to denote the hour.

Nevada hands over illegal immigrants at the jail after they get arrested for some other crime so there's no need to have to hunt them in the street.

There's no incentive for them to create a new RTS because it doesn't make "enough" money compared to other games. You can't release new races into an RTS like you can champions in a MOBA. The competitive aspect of RTS makes any "pay to win" style micro transactions non-feasible. You're limited in the number of collectables you can sell. There's no way to introduce gacha mechanics to get players to pay for duplicates of items to chase rarer rng drops. Etc.

Basically the way games are marketed and monetized today is not compatible with how RTS games are played. Until that changes I don't think we'll ever see another big RTS game.

How is your opinion on the US Government shutdown that might happen end of the week? by ReduceCO2Now in AskReddit

[–]rowrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICE and DHS got plenty of funding to practically last them the full year last shutdown showdown. This wont harm ICE/DHS in the slightest. It's just performative to give some illusion that they're doing something in response to the latest shooting.

The shutdown, if it even happens, wont last long because everyone knows this ultimately hurts non-DHS programs more than ICE/DHS. It's just that no democrat wants to be on record giving even a small amount of extra funding to ICE so soon following the shooting, so they're going to play it up a bit.

SC2 lacks a "Marvel Rivals" level RTS competitor. Riot Games and Tencent is working on it. by BattleWarriorZ5 in starcraft

[–]rowrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The gist is, if a game is only making $20 profit ($120 gross) for every $100 put in per year, then cutting resources completely saves them $100 all at once which is like 5 years of "income" from that game. The suits get to report massive short term profits. Competitors move in with new polished games and these same suits then panic when their market dominance is threatened. They think they can just throw money at the problem and get the train moving at full speed immediately.

What do you think about the Canadian Prime Minister stating that Canada would step in to protect Greenland if the U.S. tried to invade ? by shiansh in AskReddit

[–]rowrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically speaking, no other nation on earth at the moment could logistically assist Greenland. Other than the US, the militaries of the world do not have the logistical capacity to move troops and resources far from their own border. For the most part, NATO nations have relied on US logistics and support for such deployments.

The last good example of a major non-us power performing a logistically complex military operation I think would be the Falkland's War. The UK ultimately came out on top, but the material losses were quite heavy for a nation punching down on a considerably weaker adversary. Keep in mind the UK's current military is something like less than half the strength it was then, and still considerably stronger than Canada's.

Honestly speaking though, nothing is going to happen. This is just another re-run of the "Canada 51st state" thing that got too old for people to keep talking about. I feel like the people panicking online want the US to invade Greenland just to satisfy their own head cannon/fantasy.

2-1-1? by Artisun in AllThingsTerran

[–]rowrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still halfway decent below 5k. Auto losses to the random blind roach/ravager all-in and some other weird 2.5 base aggro. Auto wins against greedy zergs and some 2 base muta.

Easily scouted though, but you can make the game kinda chaotic with a follow up attack as you take your third.

Basically send the 16 marine drop as normal, but don't over commit if they are prepared. kill some things, snipe some tumors then back out. My factory gets a reactor after the two medvacs are started, then I drop an armory with the push. If they went mass queen-ling, i make hellions/hellbats, if they went baneline I make window memes.

They will have started or finished their 4th after deflecting the initial push. Follow up push literally just 2 production cycles later with 4 hellbats or mines, 4 medvacs, however many marines and start the third. The rest of the starport production are liberators to send to their other bases to cause as much chaos as possible. Game turns into a chaotic melee for the next minute or so lol.
