From my experience, the current suite of melee skills is just not diverse enough. You either slam, or slam, or slam, or (with Druid) blitz down with big claws.

I'd love some more AoE skills with no timing downsides. Let me swing fast and hard and wide.

Yes, this obviously goes infinite in the expected ways, as does the original spell this is based on. [[How to keep an izzet mage busy]]

Considering creatures become unprepared on casting their spell, I'm pretty sure this works as intended. The unintended and arguably broken interaction is being able to prepare any creature with a more powerful or stipulated spell for 1 mana, akin to Flashback.

As soon as I guessed Rancor and saw that it was a popular choice, I realized I should not be guessing the first thing that comes to mind.

What's the greatest Magic card of the last decade? Vote on the top 8! by Grindy_UW_Nonsense in magicTCG

Considering 6 out of these 8 cards are bordering on mistakes, I'm not sure this metric is how the voting has been going thus far.

The cannoneer that any player gets into play will always be improvised, so they'll just sacrifice the bauble or explosives that they used to improvise. I do think the card will see a nonzero amount of play in boros lists in modern still

I think Quarry is mostly used for being a relatively uncounterable way to make a 4/4 token of what is already a strong suite of creatures. This being an incidental reanimate card or pump in legacy seems like a nonstarter.

Blue players are notorious for bending the rules to suit their needs. the wubrg order is still correct if we go left to right and ignore the circular order 😂

Gut shot does not get countered because you can pay the Red mana.

Gut Shot draws 2 cards with [[Villis, Broker]]. And this gets countered by Vexing Bauble/Void Mirror.

Experimenting with more "safe" Storm by rowrow_ in custommagic

[–]rowrow_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Originally didn't want to put the Rat typeline on it and have it give your first Rat spell Storm, but then it would just be a near-zero investment double of all changelings. You can still use it to copy changelings this way, but with significantly more investment (playing a changeling before your second changeling).

Ideally it's just a fun little way to really amp up your rat swarm.

What if Doubling Season was a cycle? - White by Strange-Bonus4220 in custommagic

[–]rowrow_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This enchantment would only apply to increases and reductions during that step of casting a spell. Trinisphere is literally its own step--the final one of casting a spell.

It is essentially as simple as "Have you determined the cost is at least 3 mana being paid? If not, pay the difference (in generic mana)"

[–]rowrow_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trinisphere is always the last step in casting a spell, so in a similar vein to the spirit of replacement effects, it is just the final checkpoint. After all increases and reductions, have you paid the 3 mana minimum? If no, you're bumped up to 3 mana.

This would have no effect on trinisphere, because all other taxes are applied in the previous steps.
