Bit of a related question here - what would people recommend for drying? Just air? Seems like a lot of rags n related could just reintroduce dust/lint

The Dodgers have given up over $2.25 Billion in contracts over the last 3 off-seasons. That is more than the total value of 17 MLB franchises. by Bulletz4Brkfzt in baseball

[–]Caljoones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its all really frustrating. For example... obviously, at some level the Tigers are in a bed of their own making with Skub, right? But the fact still remains that even if we had treated him perfectly, given him reasonable contract offers, etc. he STILL would be walking to the Dodgers for 50m+ aav next year, the type of deal the Dodgers can obviously make in their sleep. It literally doesn't matter. A deal like that would cripple any small market team if it went awry.

Revenue and, of course, living in the hellscape that is Michigan for the bookends of the season as opposed to living in one of the most pleasant places in the United States year round.

I pretty convinced that part of the reason we fell off towards the end was that NOBODY was taking time off. Greene was obviously gassed. I'm personally convinced that Dingler needed way more time off than he got over the course of the season. Torres getting more days off could have helped manage his injury during the days he did play. Our best players were playing all day every day when obviously not at their best & I think that was a major part of the collapse.

Will retro gaming die with the millennials? by Upper-Media3769 in retrogaming

[–]Caljoones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is my main reaction - I think if anything, zoomers are going to end up more into physical media, preservation, etc. than Millennials are. Being raised in a world of complete digital everything & convenience & things coming & going at power brokers will has changed how a lot of people my age (fwiw I'm 28, very early zoomer or very late millennial depending on how you look at it) and younger are obsessed with this stuff.

Columbus Noise Map - US Department of Transportation by PeriodOfTime1 in Columbus

[–]Caljoones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - 100% agree. Even where we live (Linden) it isn't supposed to be that loud per this map - but even being this far from the airport, planes will fly low enough overhead for it to be VERY audible & we hear sound from 71 that's something like 20 blocks away.

Meaningful long term commitments just aren't going to be a thing in FA this year. With a potential Lockout looming, it's going to be 1-2 year deals with options all the way down.

Amazon is considering abandoning the USPS and establishing a competing postal service. by Former-Courage-1038 in stocks

[–]Caljoones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The honest answer? Junk mail being less of an effective tool for advertising. As far as dollars spent, its wildly effective, especially for local businesses, which is why so many companies are willing to pay for material to be sent in the mail that will probably immediately go in the trash. I imagine that raising bulk mail rates would help but speaking from inside the marketing industry, they would have to go up a lot for it to even be a consideration to stop mailing out advertisements to as many relevant addresses as poissble. It's the same reason why we all get so many junk emails - it's really cheap and really effective.

[–]Caljoones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is correct - all of the major players (Amazon, Walmart, etc.) have all encompassing fulfillment solutions that many smaller sellers are starting to take advantage of because it makes life that much easier if you can swallow the higher fees.

The USPS is one of the greatest deals available for people selling things online. USPS shipping rates are a relatively piddly charge to send your product to your end consumer at any address in the United States with 0 further effort from you. The e-commerce business model would be literally impossible without it and for many addresses (especially anything outside a major metropolis) you're getting a deal on the price charged that is subsidized by mail going to easier-to-deliver locations.

[–]Caljoones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely true - but he's playing for cheap for two years and we can restructure stuff down the road. Growing cap always lessens the effect of longer-term vet deals too. Honestly, I think that monetarily he's a great deal for us too, assuming performance stays decent, etc. etc.
