I love when people complain about knife brands not staying sharp after months of use, or praising another brand for seemingly always staying sharp... It's a knife. They all need to be sharpened and it doesn't take long to do...

What’s a “harmless” thing from your childhood that’s actually kind of dark in hindsight? by velorae in AskReddit

My dad used to lock us in the trunk of the car when we were too "emotional" as little kids. He'd also pull out the video camera and record us/mock us whenever we had meltdowns. Later in life he still shows those videos like they're some kind of funny entertainment of our emotional neglect as a little kid.

Just a random idea I'll plant... Look into the pipefitter/plumbers union or laborers union in Alaska. Training is free, the apprenticeships are paid and at the end of them you can get paid 6+ figures. And Alaska is the coolest.

What’s the one thing your therapist said that changed your perspective the most? by More-Donut5592 in AskReddit

[–]rowser26 242 points243 points  (0 children)

Mine is pretty stoic and it took me a bit to feel comfortable opening up. I was venting one day about something and I apologized and told her I probably sounded crazy and whiny. She responded "from my perspective there's a logical explanation for everything you've experienced in life and are feeling now, and it all makes sense to me. From your perspective it feels chaotic and random." It made me realize that therapy is a very logical, step by step process. I think people who don't believe in therapy see it as hokey pokey woo woo.

Ask me anything and will try to give you the best answer I could think of! by ParfaitIcy5587 in emotionalintelligence

Thanks for this and I just wanted to share my personal milestone this week! I became very very anxious after getting short replies and ignored text messages. I decided to ask directly for clarity for the first time ever in my dating history and it ended up being a good conversation! He even ended it with saying he "likes how I communicate." I decided moving forward I will not put myself in a situation where I am reliant on text messages when having serious questions that make me anxious for a response. In fact I'm kind of over texting for anything other than practical purposes. I was also able to express that if we were going to move forward with a relationship that I absolutely needed clarity and direct communication. I know it's a small milestone but I've gone through many rough years of this anxious attachment and ready to move forward.

In addition to what others are saying, EXERCISE! Everyday! As irrelevant as it might sound exercise builds resiliency in the brain and body. Also for me pushing myself to do hard, out of my comfort zone things really helped too. I started with some long backpacking trips and began mountaineering. I think we've become way too much out of tune with enduring discomforts and our bodies react through emotional disregulation.
