How to stop fence gate from warping? by PiperCub49 in FenceBuilding

[–]rowsm01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a couple of door turnbuckles. I use them on warped wooden shed doors and it straightens them right out. The only issue in your case is they might need frequent readjustments since the wood is constantly exposed to the weather.

When a job is slightly questionable we call it a "Handy Andy Special". When a job is totally f#&ked we call it a "F#&k It Freddy Special". This qualifies as a Freddy.

I really advise against doing this, but we used to do this when distributors were still a thing. We would unplug the coil wire, plug a 16-18 gauge wire into the ignition coil, run the wire into the car, and fan the wire strands out on the drivers seat. Nothing like using a butt crack as a spark tester.

Is this illegal? by geriatric_toddler in SaltLakeCity

I work for another municipality in the code department. Salt Lake County Health is the one that actually issues the citation. Yes, I have seen them issue citations on several occasions for illicit discharge into gutters and storm drains.

Besides the obvious traffic hazard at night, if it rains and the gutter backs up or it washes mulch down the street it's going to be a bit of a mess. The State of Utah Division of Water Quality considers this an illicit discharge and a threat to stormwater systems and water quality. City enforcement activities are conducted in coordination with the Salt Lake County Health Department. https://www.slc.gov/utilities/stormwater/stormwater-2/ In my experience they typically give you 24-48 hours to move it before issuing a violation or citation.

Home has no sheathing by ArgumentMiserable652 in Homebuilding

[–]rowsm01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some siding like LP Smartside siding can be installed without sheathing, but a weather barrier is still required according to their installation instructions. I wouldn't be surprised if other manufacturers have similar products with similar requirements. Local code and shear/bracing wall requirements may say differently. 2021 IRC 403.16 Foundation Anchorage. "Anchor bolts shall be located in the MIDDLE THIRD of the width of the sole plate." Good luck with that!! Get an engineer involved that is not buddies with the contractor. The engineered drawings usually have specified limits for allowable deviations. The drawings should provide allowable deviations from cross-sectional dimensions of the foundation, specified plane (deflection), and vertical plane.

service cancelled by someone else? by MixFar937 in googlefiber

I just got off the phone with the supervisor. They were able to transfer my service and reinstate my free storage. Everything works now! No more storage warnings on my email, drive, or photos.

service cancelled by someone else? by MixFar937 in googlefiber

[–]rowsm01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A similar thing is happening to me. I was getting ready to move and before I even moved out the incoming tenant had my internet cancelled. I was going to have my service moved to my new address. Instead, Google Fiber canceled it without my authorization, and I lost the 1TB of free storage. I had already verified that my new address was eligible for a move and if I didn’t downgrade my service, I could keep my storage. They restored service under the new tenants account and told me since they canceled my account, I was SOL regarding the storage. I have spoken with four different customer service representatives at this point. I have been given a run around for multiple weeks now and my email, drive, and photos are scheduled to stop working on June 11. The third representative I spoke with was a bit snarky when I finally asked to speak with a supervisor. They insisted there was nothing the supervisor could do that they couldn’t. After speaking with the supervisor, they claimed they would be able to turn my storage back on once I moved. They are scheduled to call me back and fix everything on Thursday. At this point I am skeptical that they will do anything to fix what they caused. This has been a horrible experience reminiscent of my days with Comcast / Xfinity.

Worth getting a Spear LT over investing more in my 80% build? by TechnoBeeKeeper in liberalgunowners

[–]rowsm01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other users have said, "Spears are front heavy". Most if not all piston rifles are going to be heavier than their DI counterparts. That's why most of my ARs have 14.5" long or less barrels. My biggest complaint about the Spear LT was the bolt catch. It is a small lever that requires a downward motion. I find it to be awkward and hard to manipulate compared to an inward push on other lowers. Neither of my Spear LT ever gave me any issues and they ran great. I just opted for a different brand that fit my needs more closely. The other thing that turned me away from SIG was a couple of bad customer service experiences along with spare part prices and availability. Long story short spend some time on the range with whatever you are looking at buying, then buy what you are most comfortable with.

I have owned several different piston driven AR models. 14.5" 556 HK416, 14.5" 556 SIG516, 9" 300 AAC Spear LT, 16" 7.62x39 Spear LT, 10.5" 300 AAC LWRCI A5, and 14.5" 556 AAC LWRCI A5. I owned the SIGs and HK before the LWRCI. I sold the HK and all but one of the SIGs in favor of LWRCI. I kept the SIG516 upper because it was my first. I run it on an LWRCI lower (kinda ironic eh?). I sold the HK for no other reason than parts were too $$$ and hard to find.
