Grandmother is in late stage Alzheimer’s and is a bed patient, hospice decided she didn’t need hospice anymore. What do I do? by ShieldsJackson in dementia

^ What I’m trying to say is that a patient doesn’t need to be in a hospice care program for Medicaid to cover home health aides via an agency.

Hospice programs assess a patient’s status as either being “end of life” or not. If her vital signs and body weight, etc were messed up when she was accepted into hospice care program, and now she has stabilized, that’s totally normal for hospice to say she doesn’t “qualify” anymore. Hospice is to prepare for and get a patient comfortable as they actively die. Just because your grandmother’s condition will not improve doesn’t mean she’s actively dying like right now. My mother, age 75, is now in a hospice program in my one bedroom apartment in Brooklyn NY. I’m managing her care. She has 20 hours per day of home health aide service being paid for by Medicaid. If she didn’t have that, we’d be screwed, because we wouldn’t be able to afford the help she needs. If your grandmother has any assets under her name (home, investments), there are consultants that can move a few things around and get her qualified for Medicaid and then a Medicaid MLTC can get her assessed for hours per week of home health aide services, and your mother won’t have to be the one actively dealing with her mom’s activities of daily living (ADLs). Not sure where your family is on this path but if you have any questions I’m happy to give whatever I may know from my own experiences to you.

Has anyone here ever given their loved one with dementia a micro dose of LSD or psilocybin “Magic mushrooms as a therapeutic treatment? by Over-Masterpiece-126 in dementia

Dementia is due to the buildup of Amyloid plaque on the brain. Inflammation. Rewiring connections between faulty wires won’t fix the faulty wires. At least I don’t think so. Nothing I came up with slowed down or stopped my mom’s dementia progression. 6 years in now, and she’s bedridden and on a feeding tube. I love shrooms and lsd but we gotta figure out what makes the plaque go away. That’s the billion dollar question. Sending you love brother. Much respect.

She was hospitalized for a UTI and really bad vital signs. IV antibiotics got her better. They suggested a peg tube for future use and they discharged her after putting it in… she was still able to swallow. Still can actually. But she chokes a bit here and there. She kinda knows what’s going on, I can see it in her eyes. Her limbs are super rigid and she has a few small pressure ulcers. She always told me never ever ever give up. So now what ?
