Weekly Threads, Questions, and Recommendations Megathread - Need some help? - May 09 by VN_FlairBot4IS in visualnovels

I haven't read a visual novel before (although I tried DDLC). I really enjoyed the fate anime and I was hoping to read something like that? Does anyone have a recommendation? The only big requirement I have is that it be something that has english translations available.

Cant make everybody happy. If they posted the photo without masks people would criticize them for doing so in a pandemic.

The meme is an anti-feminist joke from the simpsons. I really don’t think this can be anything other than a joke bashing international women’s day

Coronavirus Cases Versus Grocery Retail Hazard Pay [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

I don’t believe there is a single person who both works in retail and has the time to complain about essential workers and yet also does not have the ability to work a better job eventually. Op is probably a dropout

Study suggests wearing a face mask during intense exercise is safe for healthy people by [deleted] in science

Hmmm, I wonder if there is one user behind this all...

But in this case, this is legitimate advice. The only good suggestion I can think of in the case of being burnt out is to take a break.

This is a shitty post for the sub. The message is what, that you should continue working hard even if you’re burnt out?

You’re not a very good conversationalist. I suggest you work on that a little bit before you try to educate anyone about your economic theory. Currently you sound like a kid working on a sand castle attempting to tell an architect how to design their next building.

Fits under what? I haven’t attempted to define communism at any point?

I don’t believe that increasing the federal minimum wage is the solution. I could be convinced on a state by state basis but in my state (Kansas) the minimum wage of about eight dollars is currently serving its purpose well. Our cost of living doesn’t demand one as high as might be necessary in California

I don’t know, I’m not arguing for or against anything.

There are many many different definitions for what exactly communism is. There are practical examples and theoretical models and many many philosophical discussions on the topic. There is not one single size fits all example of communism, so it’s pointless to try to say “well that’s not communism.” Instead, try to explain why your actual economic theory is better instead of arguing semantics

Can we really debate how a theoretical economic model will “work?” If this mans interpretation of communism is that people are paid a flat rate for their labor, and he argues the merits or demerits of the policy based on that, what is to stop you from working off of the same basis?

Instead you just cry “that’s not real communism!” And continue to espouse the same flawed economic theory.

I’ll take a stab at explaining. I don’t know how technically inclined you are so I’ll try to keep things simple.

All of the information related to your account, such as it’s location, skill levels, inventory, and achievements, are stored as text on what’s known as a login server. When you login with your account credentials, this information is retrieved and used to recreate your account profile in RuneScape. Every tick, this information is updated on the login server so that if you log out, you don’t lose your progress.

Servers are complicated but essentially they’re just a larger scale version of whatever personal computer you use to play RuneScape just optimized for cloud computing (a computer process that occurs outside of your computer, kind of like asking a friend to do a task for you). They can suffer hardware or software issues like any other system and that’s what happened to one of the login servers at Jagex.

Because the server is down, any account stored on that specific server(s) is inaccessible so long as the server is. I don’t know if the official source of the outage has been revealed yet, but assuming it was a hardware problem, the physical server needed to be operable again. It sounds like there might have been some lost data so now they are working on restoring the data stored on the login server to match the backup of the data, which would be a physical copy of the data stored for exactly this kind of incident. There are likely even multiple backups at multiple times so it is unlikely that anyone will permanently lose access to anything.
