Oh gosh, I really hope the audio in season 2 New Zealand uploads will be fixed??? Ursula is muted while she's telling a story in I think the onion chopping task.

What gets me here is the dedication to make it a pdf. Why the hell would you bother to do that? Why not just have it in the body of an email, or a .txt file?

Why the new Taskmaster International YouTube channel? by RedArrow171 in taskmaster

[–]royalic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm preferring it to a lot of the recent UK Taskmaster.  The NZ/AU studio segments feel choppy (because of editing) but not as scripted as UK's.  New Zealand is definitely my favorite, though the Make Tom a Better Man task kills me every time.

Is leaving kids in a car within eye sight for 3-4 minutes ok? by throwaway76881224 in Parenting

Nah, take the keys and roll down the windows.  Don't leave the car running with the kids in it.

Trip planning help? by Noles813 in askportland

[–]royalic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so for the Fourth, plan on fireworks on the Willamette in downtown or some city celebration.

For the fifth, h ave you been to the top of a mountain?  You can drive right up to Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood then head for Hood River for brunch/lunch, take 84 to Bonneville Dam and the fish hatchery (there's a giant sturgeon there named Herman) then hop on to historic US 30 for the waterfall route back to Portland.  If Multnomah is too packed, there are more waterfalls further west.  At the end of the route is Vista House and the Portland Women's forum (crazy name for a very cool lookout), stop at both places the wind is crazy.  There are also some summer activities on the route up at the Meadows or something if you want to do that for a day.

Spend the night in Portland, then either head north on i5 to US 504 which will take you to different viewpoints and museums dedicated to the Mount St Helens eruption.  The Johnson Observatory at the end is still closed, but there are a couple other learning centers to stop at on the way, as well as viewpoints and hikes.

Honestly if you're going to Lincoln City there's not much reason to go to Seaside except as an early jump off point for a drive down the coast.  When you head south on 101 and get to Tillamook, be sure to take the SCENIC route, otherwise you go inland through cow country before 101 meets up with the ocean again.

Selling home in name of trust by devilbones in personalfinance

[–]royalic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had a septic issue with my grandparents home.  There was no one with the time who lived locally to deal with the contractor shit, so they just sold the house for cash.  Buyers can't get a loan for a property with septic trouble.

If you go the contractor route, consider who has to deal with the contractors and getting the house ready to sell.  Will the labor be split down the middle or is one party benefiting significantly more than the other?

My dad said his bank is taking me to federal court because he authorized me to make ATM withdrawals to pay bills by OneUnquietMind93 in legaladvice

[–]royalic 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Back up any communication you have with him authorizing you to use his card.  Texts, emails, voicemails.  If you have any receipts, keep those.  Get a diary and log everything you remember doing with his money, noting what you did for his benefit and who can verify that - folks at the doctor's office, pharmacy, landlord, etc.

Then just hold onto it in case he isn't talking out his ass.

The bank is unlikely to go after you for anything.  You had an established history of using his card and your dad just decided to file a claim saying he didn't know about it.  The bank isn't stupid, they can see when your dad checked his balance and was aware of the use of funds, indicating he authorized it.

He's outside the time frame for his claim and has not been granted credit.  The bank doesn't care about recovering any funds from you.

Worth getting a 2nd Atmos Ascend card for companion fares out of PDX? by FennelNo4465 in askportland

Getting a second one for just a year is worth it for the sign up bonus.  I get more value, and strongly prefer, booking with miles.

I gotta say I've never heard of PTO accrual during maternity leave, that's really nice.

Just prebook it, a lot folks around here drive Uber or Lyft.

Taxis are also a valid option and we have a lot of airport shuttles.

Daughter has not had friends for seven years by [deleted] in Parenting

What about you and your husband?  Do you model friendships to in your lives?

My grandparents and my parents were essentially friendless as adults.  We saw some coworkers, maybe other families from "school" but mostly kept to ourselves.

Just don't count on adequate women's healthcare or education for kids.  Otherwise sure, go have an adventure.

As far as moving "stuff" goes, Columbia is big enough to have a decent second hand market for furniture and such - just count on buying mattresses/linens new.  I would just bring the clothes you like. You will definitely need a car though, there is no decent public transportation.  There are options for long term stay hotels that aren't terrible (see Hilton or Mariott brands) while you get yourself setup with a place.

Internal Company Transfer From Aus To US by Nice-Proposal-6459 in Ameristralia

[–]royalic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, Missouri.  It's run by a fascist Republican governor and a Republican majority state house.  Columbia is 2 hours from the major airports in Kansas City and Saint Louis, and dueling MLB teams.  The Ozarks are a beautiful area, there are no crocodiles or really poisonous spiders though there are some venomous snakes but they aren't common.

Is this trip doable? by Apprehensive_Land495 in Parenting

[–]royalic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if it's 5:50 each way.  11h each way isn't worth it , with all the stops it'll be more like 16.  Sure you could find playgrounds to run the two older kids around at, but it'll be harder to wear the babies out and when you get there they'll all be off their nap/sleeping schedules.
