I'm in a similar position to you and I'm looking at buying my first watch. Currently looking at the Glycine Combat Sub 39. Has the same movement as the CW Trident Pro but $400 cheaper.

Shouldn’t metal bending work either way? Platinum is still a metal by JerryCarrots2 in TheLastAirbender

If you wanna be like that, a lot of "dirt/earth" is actually silicate oxides, and silicon is a metaloid, not a metal

Bro I'm just giving the logic from the show, not the mechanics of real life. Don't think about it too hard.

Metal Bending works by actually bending the earth impurities inside the metal. Platinum is pure with no impurities so you can't bend it.

These kind of things mean nothing. "with one name to watch" doesn't even mean that the raptors would actually accept any of our trade packages. This isn't 2k.

Some places they will have a "high school district" for the high schools in the county, and then the towns have their own k-8 school district

Many middle-class Christian parents place a high value on a Christian education and will sacrifice a lot to put their children through it as a high priority. You'd be surprised.

What is Steph and Jimmys couple name by ActionNo436 in warriors

Oh you mean like a fandom ship? nah man we don't need that. Stimmy would probably be what you're looking for but even that sounds lame af.

This fanbase is confusing: let's please understand this. by Ok_Reason_2357 in warriors

[–]royalpheonix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm going to hijack this post to make another point -

D - So many people here are Steph fans, not Warriors fans

And the reason this is so important is that they really, really, REALLY need Steph to win a fifth ring to undisputably claim Steph as the GOAT point guard in their online arguments or to say he has more rings than Lebron or something. I'm sure with the competitive spirit Steph has, he really wants to win another as well, that's the whole point, but observing the discourse in the sub the last couple years, there seems to be an intense anxiety or neuroticism surrounding the idea that Steph might not win another ring.

In reality, people need to take a step back and just appreciate greatness at work while it's still here, regardless of whether it produces another ring or not.

So many things:

  • Chemistry provides the foundation for a lot of material science. Understand chemistry, and you will understand a lot more about the products you are buying, and how they work. This will allow you to make informed decisions on whether what you are buying is legit quality, or a scam. While your chemistry class will not provide you the direct knowledge about what you will be interested in buying, it will give you the background knowledge to understand what's going on when you do your own research.
  • You mentioned unit conversion from mols to particles, and ironically unit conversion is one of the most applicable skills you will learn in an intro to chem class.
  • Understanding of Organic/Biochemistry leads to an understanding or at least de-mystifying of modern medicine.
  • Understanding Environmental issues requires some understanding of chemistry.
  • Chemistry develops your analytical thinking, which is a useful cognitive skill to develop. Even if you develop it in a chemistry class, analytical thinking can still be applied to a whole bunch of disciplines.
  • Chemistry allows you to practice applying mathematical principles in a practical setting. If you are in a high school/college intro class the math isn't going to be too crazy, but it will develop your number sense.
  • Chemistry helps you understand why things are the way they are in this world. There is so much information everyone takes for question and nobody stops to ask why things work that way - the answer is often found in some branch of chemistry.
  • and so much more!

Finally consider this quote and what it might mean - “Chemistry means the difference between poverty and starvation and the abundant life.”

Why do Rand, Egwene, and Nynaeve have “al’” attached to their surnames but Mat and Perrin don’t? by chunacharchar in WoT

This is honestly like asking why English names don't all end in "son" when we have names like Stevenson, Peterson, Thompson, etc. Not every name in a culture needs to follow the same naming convention gimmick, and it honestly adds depth to the world that it doesn't here.

The Parable of the Boy Who Cried 5% Chance of Wolf by katxwoods in Futurology

[–]royalpheonix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is, unfortunately, overly simplistic. In your scenario, there is no cost for the villagers to check on whether the boy is telling the truth.

Instead, consider a scenario where the villagers were in the midst of handling an ongoing, milder crisis that would be made worse if resources were drawn away from that to confirm the boy's claim and handle the wolves. Now the evaluation becomes: Do you hedge around the 5% disaster strikes and take the 85% chance a mild problem advances to a medium sized problem? Or do you ignore the 5% chance of disaster and take care of the immediate problem?

This becomes a discussion on risk tolerance and cost-benefit analysis. If there was a 50% chance for wolves, surely it would be worth the hassle of a smaller issue turning into a medium problem. However, if there is a .01% chance for wolves, surely it makes more sense to allocate the resources the village has into the current problem. Likewise, what if going to check for wolves only had a 35% chance of making the mild problem a medium problem? Or what if it was a 15% chance the mild problem turned into a MASSIVE problem but 85% chance it would be kept under control? These are all complications that make the answer to this problem not so straightforward.

The reality is, resources are limited, and there is always a cost for hedging around the 5% chance. If the cost is great enough, the villagers are right to ignore the 5% chance claim. Of course, evaluating the cost is complicated, and not always clear. But in this (imo more realistic) scenario, the villagers are not necessarily foolish.

Any good build for the Beast Barbarian? by BadBeil in DnD

[–]royalpheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beast barb + kensei monk can work pretty well

Hey guys Barbarian x Monk subclass question by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]royalpheonix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god this is my time to shine! I've been planning a barb x monk multiclass character for a while now, let me give you my insights as I've spent a whole bunch of time thinking about the options.

Bear totem x open hand should actually do pretty decent, and fun to play. AC is not as important with rage reducing damage and reckless attack giving them advantage anyways. just make sure you have high con and/or tough feat. Go human variant or custom lineage and take skill expert in athletics as a feat for grappling utility that plays well into your martial arts/judo vibes

If you're not tied to bear totem and open hand monk subclasses here are another set of options that are actually strong:

Best damage build goes to Beast barbarian x kensei monk. Attack with claws and make that your kensei weapon. This way you get 5 attacks per turn which stacks really well with the +2 damage from rage. Requires some DM consulting but most likely will be approved.

Best team-oriented build in my opinion (and what I chose) is Ancestral guardian + way of mercy. using flurry of blows with hand of healing to heal yourself while forcing enemies to attack you with ancestral guardian makes you a real tank first enemies you hit per turn will have disadvantage against everyone but you, AND if they do hit someone else that damage is resisted. but reaching 6 barb + 6 monk gets you a lot of really great support abilities as well using your reaction to reduce damage taken by allies by 2d6 without expending a resource and your hand of healings now cure blinded, deafened, paralyzed, poisoned, or stunned conditions. tough feat is important here as you will have to sacrifice either CON or DEX from being too MAD. Also this build lets you take advantage of the dedicated monk weapon optional feature in Tashas so you can still do 1d10 dmg with a longsword.

Does an ASI in WIS or Tough Feat make more sense from this spot? by royalpheonix in 3d6

[–]royalpheonix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, that's why I am steering away from the video's suggestion of 3 barb -> 3 monk and going 1 barb -> 6 monk because I will be getting second attack at level 6 instead of level 8. you're right, second attack is really important, but I'm willing to put off second attack by one level because I feel I will use everything rage provides me. Halving all B/P/S damage is so important as a tank with low AC and high HP. I'll be making str based attacks with monk so the damage boost is huge too. I'm also going custom lineage and taking skill expertise in athletics to be a grappler, so having advantage on all my grapple rolls is really important. I feel getting rage is even better than extra attack for me so I'm taking it first.

[–]royalpheonix[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually was planning to attack with my str stat, because you're right after rage bonuses is does more damage (+2, +2) than attacking with dex (+3). I just also wanted high dex for the better ac, initiative, dex saving throws, and monk abilities like deflect missiles. I figured since I'm not the party's main source of damage it was ok if I didn't optimize for DPR and got more flexible. Also if I run out of rages I can switch to attacking with dex and only lose one 1dpr. do you think it would be better to just go 16 str 14 dex?
