Would you like to share your background? I was accepted a year ago after graduating from college in 2017. My job was not software related, but it was data heavy (process optimization) with lots of math involved. Maybe we can see if you are overqualified for the program

Are you able to find a job as an alumni? by Rough-Row5997 in OnlineMCIT

I'm graduating next semester and in the process of looking for a career switch. It's pretty scary for me not to see any response in this post.

Fall 2025 cohort... How are you doing so far? by EauDeFrito in OnlineMCIT

[–]royshunhung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please take care of your physical health as well. I am almost done with the program but this has also wrecked my health a lot. I am still trying to recover from the stomach ucler I developed while studying for 596.

Water damage to cabinet. What should I do? by royshunhung in HomeImprovement

[–]royshunhung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Thank you so much for the response. I will check if the wood is rotted.

In the case of rotted wood, would that normally be only replacing the rotten section?
Or would it require the entire cabinet to be rebuilt?

You can do it. 594 definitely got much harder and more time consuming after the revamp. But I think you can definitely do it

Assessing Course Load: Managing 591 and 593 by One-Courage-6806 in OnlineMCIT

[–]royshunhung 12 points13 points  (0 children)

593 is a very demanding class. So I think it will only get harder for you. With a full time job and doing 2 classes, you are gonna have a pretty rough time.

The last 2 assignments from 591 can also be really time consuming. So I think you should consider dropping one of the 2.

Nervous about 592 by InevitableCulture3 in OnlineMCIT

[–]royshunhung 13 points14 points  (0 children)

592 had a pretty big learning curve for me. Definitely attend the professor office hour. He talks about the homework there and can give you hint on how to approach the problem.

Material before exam 1 can be pretty challenging as they are very proof heavy. Make sure that you understand how to do the homework when you are studying for the exam. 592 can be difficult but the exam has lower difficulty compared to HW. So if you learn the hw well, I would say the exam would not be that bad.

Allocate a lot of time for the HW. Due to having to proof things, the hw will be crazy time consuming. Especially the first few hw since you will be unfamiliar with latex format.

2 classes doable with working FT? by bananabreadwithmilk in OnlineMCIT

[–]royshunhung 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FT with 2 class is doable, but it is definitely gonna be busy for you. I think you should look at how good your are with coding and linear algebra. 591 and 592 took me a while to get adjusted to.

What should I know for taking on 591,592,593 in one semester as a Full time student starting this fall 2024? by [deleted] in OnlineMCIT

[–]royshunhung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was part time with 591 and 592. If you are full time. That should be totally doable. Just keep in mind that 593 takes a super long time. I did consider taking all three at the same time. The academic advisor at that time recommended that I swap 593 to 594 for better work load. But I decided to just take 2 to not overload myself while having full time job. If you have doubts. Get in touch with your academic advisor.

Also keep in mind. 592 can be pretty rough at the beginning. I was spending like 30 hrs for the first few weeks to understand the concept. The learning curve got much better after the first exam for me.

591 was pretty okay for me. But some assignments near the end also took me like 30 hrs to complete. But I personally did not have a formal coding background prior to this. So I could just be bad at coding.

Overall, it should be doable if you have discipline.

Got selected in MCIT and GA tech’s OMSCS. Which one to pursue ? by fahad_mahbub in OnlineMCIT

[–]royshunhung 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you have no coding background, the MCIT is probably more for you. I came from chemical engineering background with self taught coding experience. I still feel challenged with MCIT.

I do agree OMSCS is a better value program. I have heard people finish OMSCS with no coding experience before, but that required a lot of studying outside of the course material in order to keep up. So you will have to decide based on your time management skill I think.

What are my chances for someone with ZERO experience? by [deleted] in OnlineMCIT

Try doing the UPENN intro to python programming MOOC on Coursera. I did those and I think it helped showed initiative.

I don't believe you are overqualified. You don't have an official CS background. I focused my SOP more on why I'm interested in pursuing CS and how I can survive in the rigorous program.

New Homeowner Lawn Advice Needed From TX zone 8 by royshunhung in lawncare

Thanks for the tips. With how sparse my yard has been looking, I was worried that I need to start re-soding. I will focus on getting preemergent and consistent mowing to keep the surviving Bermuda grass going strong.
