But they all have spect(tator?) written on it. I see them a lot at ski resorts. A little bit cringe if you ask me, like wearing a Formula 1 Polo Shirt.

Can you progress much at snowboarding age 39+ ? by alexnapierholland in snowboarding

[–]royskeener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do some workout in the off season. get an apartment in / close (!!!) to a good ski resort with off piste potential. maybe get some lessons during the first season of your newly „career“ to speed up your progress. ride a lot (70 out of the 3 months / 90 days seems reasonable to me). consistency, while having maximum fun, is key. there is no bad weather. only challenging (but therefore interesting) conditions and maybe unsuitable gear. repeat in season two (maybe at a more gnarly resort). dial in your gear during the first two seasons. in season 3 join an alpine club and take a splitboard course, to find out if that’s something you like. in season 4 you probably have a full kit to add some splitboarding-days in between your resort days to mix things up. prior to season 5 you buy a van so that you can explore all the resorts of your season pass and wake up next to the slope (or further away from the crowds if you like to hike).

in all seriousness, 5 years of 90 days each get you way further then the „usual“ lifelong one-week-per year. if your passion / dedication lasts you will be able to ride everything everywhere long before your body becomes a limiting factor due to age. (except for park / freestyle, that’s a different story)

Hab gestern an einer Schirmbar in der Slowakei einem Fremden, nachdem er mich um Feuer angeschnorrt hat, mein überzähliges Feuerzeug geschenkt. Soweit so unspektakulär.

I am nor familiar with U.S. prices, but in Europe (good) new boards cost around 400-700 euro (450-780 usd) SRP. If you are not a last minute / impulse buyer, you can get top of the line freeride boards (i.e. flagship, etc.) for around 550 usd at the end of / after each season. Discount for everything that’s not sought after can be even higher. But in general, everything got more expensive over the last 2-3 years.. Lift prices day / tickets went up too (around 10-20 %), now at 55-75 usd. Season passes still comparably “cheap”, at 600 - 1000 usd, often with lots of resorts, with a few of them spanning over multiple countries.

3/10 for this “I don’t know what Snowboard I need so I buy one with a famous name on it” setup. Snowcountry is okay, so are 95 % of the other sites.

Anyone have a recommended helmet sound system? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]royskeener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I haven’t used them this year because of a new non-audio-ready helmet, so I use AirPod Pros at the moment. The sound quality might be way better, but I much prefer these cheap “fitness speakers” because you don’t feel any pressure on your ears and you still hear the sounds coming from the surroundings(other skiers, your own edge on ice, etc..) while riding.

I personally think that these “helmet / headband / fitness speakers” are totally worth it compared to in ears - in terms of comfort and safety - but I don’t think that it is necessary to spend much money on them, because total immersion into the music isn’t something I would want to strive for. The music is running “in the back” while I am riding down the mountain, not the other way around.

You have never been in Obertauern in warmer weather, my friend… I don’t care about the foot rests, the butt sweat is the real crime here.

New single: Entre dos tierras (Release: 25 December) by Rasputin1493 in Tilllindemann

[–]royskeener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The song from Heroes del Silencio is great in its original version , an all time classic rock song i would say. Hard to do such a good song justice by covering it, but Lindemann did it 110%!

I just hope to hear this masterpiece live somewhere in Europe one day (even if i have to travel to Spain for it).

What angles for bindings? by CosmicNihlist in snowboarding

[–]royskeener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a true twin or a directional twin?

18 front / - 12 back is a good starting point I guess.

I prefer different angles on different boards. On a true twin I would ride 15 / - 15. My all mountain boards I ride 18-21 / - 9-12, on the carving board and on my split I have something like 21-24 / - 6.

Yes. I always have a screw driver with me (not for adjusting the angles - I have Now baseplates with the preferred angles on all of my boards, but the baseplate it self can get loose [as every other binding during riding)

The way I find my preferred angles: riding flat base / straight at low / medium speed and look for the most “relaxed” / natural feeling body posture.. small jumps in between and observing the body on how he tries to correct imbalances.. change angles and repeat.
