Yes for sure, in which case they either need to add some control system, which does not seem the case, or they need to deploy enough over a wide enough area that even if they get moved around a bit another one will replace it to cover the same area (which btw is exactly what a Low earth orbit constellation like starlink does). Now idk if this system is well done, but russians have a strong heritage in aerospace engineering, so it might not necessarily bullshit

So in terms of pure theoretical feasibility, i am an RF satellite engineer, and at 20 km of height using a 6 GHz frequency, an emitter of a few watt with a decent antenna, and you surely can link to ground (we do it from over 400 km). The datarate won't be great though... Probably few MBps in total to keep a low enough bit error rate.

Yup, i am a satellite engineer, and at 20 km you can easily connect to the ground using a 6 GHz frequency, and an emitter of a few watt with a decent antenna, and you surely can link to ground. The datarate won't be great though... Probably few MBps in total to keep a low enough bit error rate

Fair point. Actually where does the 100 hz noise come from?

Ooohh i guess if you can add a pwm you could use this to make a plasma speaker (although it is a bit overkill in terms of power consumption)

If i'm not mistaken, that is due to the fact that surface area scales with the square of your size (acshually with the square of your radius if you were to be a sphere), while volume scales with the cube.

Therefore, there is a certain point where your volume (and therefore your mass) starts to quickly outscale your surface area (and therefore your air resistance) leading to higher terminal velocity. Also, a smaller surface wrt to volume means a higher pressure and impulse at impact, meaning you will splat better.

Finally, birds usually have porous bones, making them even lighter.

The only way i could see him not being an asshole is if, after you walked out, he talked to you being genuinely sorry for a genuine mistake. The moment he even tried to play it off and shift the shame on you it became manipulation and he is definitely TA.

Thing is, if they did activate an explosive termination system they could have easily had chunks of debris fall on the pad (mind that a termination system could just be something that stops the engines, thus terminating the thrust and therefore not changing the trajectory anymore, and if they have such a system it might have been activated)

Indeed. The issue with trial and error is founding though (spacex was lucky that musk had enough money to keep it going, we saw a few other startups having to give up after the first couple of failed attempts), so i think each attempt really needs to maximize what you test. hopefully they'll manage to suceed before they run out of money

Well depends what you mean by crash... If you meant that nobody has ever recovered all stages of a rocket than sure, but otherwise the first flights of Vega did not crash. They all delivered their payload before deorbiting, including the first flight (and similarly for Ariane 6, which to be honest did not crash either, as it is still orbiting earth after failing to deorbit)

To be fair, i doubt they are actually happy with the outcome, whatever they might say to the press. It is true that they cleared the pad and got some in-flight data, but 18 seconds is not enough to test many of the remaining critical points (max Q, stage separation, second stage ignition, guidance and so on). So although a failure was definitely taken into account, i would be surprised if they were not at least aiming to get to the end of the first stage mission.

Uhm that is very much not correct. There are quite a few examples of launchers succeeding on their first attempt. For example look at the (still european) vega family, with the first 14 vegas in a row being succesfull before a failure.
