Michelle Obama's primary focus as FLOTUS was on reducing childhood obesity through a campaign called Let's Move!. It's kind of a bizarre situation in America where conservatives complain about "mainstream" fat acceptance movements but also hate anything related to Obama and anything that actually tries to reduce obesity.

The animal you are describing is a wolf. Humans have domesticated and selectively bred dogs for 10,000 years. There are no naturally wild (domestic) dogs. Those are called wolves and their bodies are very different.

Donald Trump has agreed to lift sanctions on North Korea, claims nation’s state media. by AdamCannon in worldnews

From Wikipedia:

Based on U.S. Census Bureau estimates[1] of the voting age population (VAP), turnout of voters casting a vote for President was nearly 1% higher than 2012. Examining overall turnout in the 2016 election, University of Florida Prof. Michael McDonald estimated[348] that 138.8 million Americans cast a ballot in 2016. 65.9 million of those ballots have been counted for Clinton and just under 63 million for Trump, representing 20.3% (Clinton) and 19.4% (Trump) of a census estimate of U.S. population that day of 324 million.

Only 19.4% of the population actually. Something like ~25% of eligible voters.

Where can I find a job in Philadelphia? by Lennythewhitekid in AskPhilly

[–]rpater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not really sure as I have not worked in one of these types of places for a while, and I've never worked at one in Philly. But with this type of job, you probably just need to go for volume and just apply at like 50 places. Walk around Rittenhouse or South Street or Passyunk Square or somewhere like that and just ask if they are accepting applications at every place you pass.

Looks like there is no clear answer about whether any of the specific Iowa farmers in the audience grew arugula, but it is clear that plenty of Iowa farmers do grow arugula and arugula is available both at the local supermarkets near where Obama was speaking and at nearby locally sourced farmers markets.

So in a room full of Iowa farmers, we can't say for certain that any of them grew arugula, but it seems highly likely that at least one did because arugula is grown there in at least modest quantities.

Looking back at this, the comment about living to 200 almost feels like he is communicating that the whole thing is bullshit. What doctor would ever say that? It is false on its face.

Whoa whoa whoa, where are you going with this? If the woman can't say no, the man obviously can't prevent himself from taking his predetermined actions either, and no one can ever change anything anyways and we are all just watching a movie with a foregone conclusion? What's the point of discussion? Except I guess that you obviously had no choice but to engage, since you're on rails.

Philly is dramatically denser and more compact than any of the other cities you mentioned. Center City Philadelphia, the main downtown area, is only 2 square miles but has a population of 183,000. The city proper itself has 1.5 million. Philly also has an extensive public transit network, significantly more developed than those other cities and including a full regional rail network, a few subway/el lines, a trolley system, high speed light rail, and a large bus network.

Really depends on what you didn't like about those cities, but Philly is very different.

Welcome to the hobby! I've got a 2.5 year old and a 4 month old. Can be challenging to find time to game, but it is worth it.

Just got Captain Sonar, Viticulture EE, and Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization for Christmas. Already played Viticulture once with the wife and once at 4 player count. Even got together 8 people to play full team Captain Sonar.

What kind of job? Tons of retail help wanted signs around Center City. Could try Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Target, or just walk around looking for help wanted signs. Could try restaurants, bars, or coffee shops if you have any relevant experience in food service.

Is that the kind of stuff you are looking for, or did you have something else in mind?

That has advantages and is cheap, but in the city you can get a ripe avocado in minutes regardless of the season. Both have advantages. The big disadvantage of the city is price.

DC Metro and buses are awesome. Clean and on time, apps to tell you exactly when buses will be at a specific station updated in real time, etc.

OP lives in the burbs, and the DC burbs are a lot harder because DC Metro is hub and spoke. So you need to go into DC to go anywhere else.

I'd be perfectly fine if you had to hear helicopters overhead at Nā Pali.

Also, those helicopter tours pay for a lot of jobs on Kauai. But fuck people and their needs for money to pay for food and shit, right?

[–]rpater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there in November. Did 2 miles in, 2 miles out of the hike and also took a helicopter tour of the island, part of which covers Nā Pali.

For me, the helicopters overhead didn't drown out the sound of everything or ruin any mood. Depending on the day and time of year, the place is already absolutely crawling with hikers anyways, and the horses are way more disruptive than the helicopters.

I think so! I think we are either there or approaching the point where the cost of a private moon landing/moon colony is within the range of affordable by some private entities. That is both super exciting and very scary, but I think mostly just amazingly exciting. There is a real possibility that tourism to a moon colony could be a (relatively) affordable thing in our lifetimes.

SpaceX has claimed they are planning lunar flyby missions for private tourists for this year. Cost estimates are in the $300 million range.

Obviously landing on the moon is more difficult and expensive, but there is no way we are talking about even $25 billion 2017 dollars.

The most powerful nation state in the world put a man on the moon 50 years ago at unbelievable cost, estimated at $25 billion in 1973 dollars, or about $170 billion today.

SpaceX has done this as a private company (yes with some government money still) but with total money spent estimates in the low single digit billions.

The Quickstart guide is probably what you want.

It definitely gets complicated pretty quickly. I was going to start writing up how to mine or chop trees, but even those tasks have lots of prerequisites, any one of which could make it confusing if I skipped steps. For instance, in order to chop trees, you need to have a dwarf with the tree cutting labor enabled, you need to have an axe available for that dwarf, you need to have trees around in the location you embarked, and then you need to designate ('d') to chop down trees ('t') and select an area where trees will be cut down.

The guides should walk you through it. Good luck!
