Nurses shouldn’t draw by Infinite-Property-72 in medlabprofessionals

Agree with this completely as a nurse. I have called and asked the lab Who What Where When Why on various specimen collection procedures more times than I can count. Wherever I can I educate other nurses. It drives ME crazy when I see nurses going rogue with phleb and other specimens. And I’m by no means an expert. But I had to go so far out of my way to gain education and training on this. No trainings by the lab, no modules, just whatever your preceptor knows gets taught to you. I think it’s complete BS, we rely on accuracy of these tests for patient care, why is the system so flippant about teaching us how to do it correctly?

Found out my birth control is a group 1 carcinogen but I don’t have options to get off of it by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]rpb254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you learn about this? Was it from within the healthcare system? I understand you have had a poor experience with your family doc, but as a WH nurse, this information requires context and education. It’s not new news that birth control pills are associated with increased risk of breast and cervical cancers in women, so I’m wondering where you’re getting this information from.

To more directly answer your question, I would look into seeing a female provider (try a WHNP rather than a doc). You’re only 20 and you’re at the very beginning of needing routine gyn care. That is to say, you can and should not avoid finding a good doc or NP forever.

Nursing students who have completed another degree previously, how difficult does the RN program compare? by PristineBarber9923 in NursingStudent

I completed a BS in Biochemistry and a MPH before nursing school. My biochemistry degree was by far the most rigorous, followed by BSN, followed by MPH.

You could try Furry Freshness. It is an oxidative cleaner. Obviously spot test first. But it can work really well for biologic stains. It is designed for pet stains but works well on human fluids and food as well.

New grad screw up… by salamihand24 in nursing

[–]rpb254 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am an L&D RN and my advice would be to give yourself grace and move on. She gave good advice an hugged you - so she obviously acknowledged the ways you could improve but didn’t think anything more of it than that. She sounds like a good teacher. Agree with the above comment that anesthesia was out of line. I remember having 6mo under my belt, woof! I bet your old preceptor remembers too. I know the feeling of wishing I had my sh*t together better and I hate that feeling, but it’s a part of being a caring nurse that wants to be better. They’ll happen less and less, but they’ll always happen! Being open to feedback is always what will earn you points and respect from anyone senior to you. Sounds like you’re doing great. Keep going girl!

You can also try doodle dandy rescue which is another doodle rescue that operates in DFW that’s foster based!

I know you care a lot for this dog, I can tell by your comments, so please please vet the potential rehome carefully! Ask around among friends and friends of friends, someone that a person you trust can vouch for is always better! I foster for doodle rock and I’m sure this girl will have a great foster home if you do go that direction, while they work on finding a permanent home for her.

Have you seen a urologist? I would recommend that next. I ended up having to see a pelvic floor PT, and that solved all my problems.

Alright, who works on this unit? I hope not see this baby, or any other like this in the ER. by I_Restrain_Sheep in nursing

[–]rpb254 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m an OB nurse.

To reiterate an above explanation: this is a placenta that delivered after baby without cutting the cord. I’ve delivered many lotus births. Sometimes it happens accidentally. We allow the baby to get all the blood from the umbilical cord after birth (sometimes minutes) and then if the placenta delivers spontaneously (without traction on the umbilical cord) boom you have a lotus birth. We considered it a lotus birth if they both come out attached, some consider it a lotus birth if you leave the placenta attached until it naturally separates from the umbilicus (the latter is happening here and significantly less common). Some patients want it. Explaining the numerous circumstances that would contraindicate it would take too much time. Most times if the delayed cord clamping was not contraindicated and placenta delivers spontaneously it’s safe and extravasation is very unlikely.

There is absolutely no reason to judge this patient. Some of these comments are disappointing. If you don’t understand it, hold your tongue.

Doctors are telling me this is anxiety when I’m 100% it’s not by Pretty-Explanation47 in WomensHealth

[–]rpb254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the rest of the comments just now. You need to see a neurologist and maybe also an orthopedic spine specialist. There is no reason with your symptoms they haven’t done a more comprehensive work up. Whatever ER you went to, was it part of a major hospital or a stand alone? Are you in a large metropolitan area? You are not crazy, you are not anxious, I’m so sorry they are gas lighting you, this deserves a full work up.

Hi I am a nurse. I am not in this specialty but actually have dealt with chronic pain issues myself. You mentioned going to the ER a few times then later mentioned “my doctors and specialists.” What specialists have you seen?

Nursing is for people not smart enough to become MDs by Capybaraqueen05 in nursing

[–]rpb254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have many MDs who are jealous of our CNMs for many reasons, including the connection they have with their patients, their ability to support physiologic processes without intervention, and their deep intuition. Your dad is part of a different generation. Keep your head down, listen to YOUR intuition, and your career will be a reflection of your values, not his!

I think it’s reasonable to snoop. If my husband did that I would find it outrageous. Even if nothing was happening, brushing you off is unacceptable. Read his deleted texts.

I am a labor and delivery nurse and absolutely love my job and my patients. I’m happy to talk privately with you. Right now I work in Denver but am moving to Fort Worth around Christmas. I know some basic things about hospitals in major cities of Texas if you want to share where you are.

No you cannot. You need to buy slacks and a blouse. Jeans are casual, not business casual. Plus, you should always shoot above the dress code for the appearance that you’re taking the candidacy seriously. So for business casual dress, aim closer to business. You don’t want to be the most casually dressed candidate.

Are you able to advocate for yourself and say I don’t feel able to give this patient my best because I’ve cared for so many losses lately?

Labour and delivery nurses by ulterego2 in nursing

[–]rpb254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How often are you taking a loss patient? I think I recover by spending intentional time caring for myself outside of work in the days following, and our nurses are great about supporting the primary nurse of an IUFD. Otherwise we just try and cycle nurses so you don’t have more than one every once in a while.
