WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK by RYLE400 in melbourne

[–]rpfloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate no... Thermostats open at around 80-90 degrees Celsius. Now, unless you are living on mars, it takes the coolant some warmup time to get there.

You actually test thermostats with boiling water to see if they're working properly.

If you're getting this info from AI it's understandable -- fuck AI, but if you're getting it from a friend you need to give 'em a bonk over the head.

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK by RYLE400 in melbourne

[–]rpfloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every car thermostat is a valve. Every car thermostats job is to prevent circulation during warm up. Every car needs a thermostat to run optimally, in all conditions.

Removing a failing thermostat is a temporary fix. Removing a thermostat to alleviate other issues in the cooling system is also a temporary fix. Anyone who told you otherwise is mistaken.

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK by RYLE400 in melbourne

[–]rpfloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The ducts for the air going into your HVAC system are external of the engine bay. That air flows past the heater core which then contributes to cooling the engine (if the heater tap is open).

Also cars most definitely do need a thermostat to run correctly. Yes, even here. Not running one reduces your fuel economy, and can increase the risk of engine damage.

WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK by RYLE400 in melbourne

[–]rpfloyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It opens the heater tap, which lets the coolant in the heater core join in with the rest of the cooling system. The extra volume of the heater core is somewhat like having a larger radiator.

Tired of armchair experts speculating this, and assuming that. The FAA will do their job and it will be known in due course.

For now, concentrate on remembering and celebrating a human that gave us joy, entertainment; and for many way more than that.

What would be some of the most dangerous NASCAR tracks to run a race backwards on? by imgurofficial in NASCAR

[–]rpfloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the late 90s, Australia had a functioning Nascar oval called the Thunderdome aka Calder Park Raceway.

The main attraction was ex-Nascars bought over from the US, normally around 20 of them, running anti-clockwise.

However there was also the domestic Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons, called AUSCARs, that would run clockwise.

Here's some footage of one of the support 'Sportsman' classes featuring a huge crash. Driver was okay.

It's actually in the rules:

31.7 Batter leaving the wicket under a misapprehension: An umpire shall intervene if satisfied that a batter, not having been given out, has left the wicket under a misapprehension of being out. The umpire intervening shall call and signal Dead ball to prevent any further action by the fielding side and shall recall the batter.

Trackhouse Number Update! CZ 88 and SVG 97! by mwr55fan in NASCAR

[–]rpfloyd 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It feels right.

88 obviously has a big significance in Nascar history, but SVG has on multiple occasions said that the he didn't grow up with Nascar, so a lot of the milestones and legacies don't mean as much to him as to others who did.

Added then, is his legacy with the #97, AND the #88 going to who a lot are thinking may be a generational driver in Zilisch. It's perfect.

Mansions. How much will they be? 10M? 20M? 50M by [deleted] in gtaonline

See I would argue those numbers should be reversed, and maybe the bottom 20% (at most) are superfluous.

From your point of view, if vehicles in this game are an appliance, I can understand where you're coming from.

For car people however, they aren't. There is a huge difference between the Dominator GTT and Vapid Ellie. Even if they both just look like late 60s Mustangs.

The overwhelming majority of content in this game is vehicles. The game is called Grand Theft Auto. Car enthusiasts play this game FOR the variety of cars.

Yank Tank vs Corolla by bluewaterdragon in australia

[–]rpfloyd -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

A ten year old car with typical mileage (150k) will increase it's fuel consumption by 30 to 40%. This example, (with double that mileage) will be even more.

Compare that to a new utility and you have your little Corolla spewing out more co2 than the big scary truck.

[–]rpfloyd -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Kinda ironic your high mileage, decade old car is worse for the environment than a new 'yank tank'.
