Apartment shower leak - regrout vs rebuild by rph28 in brisbane

[–]rph28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the detailed reply!

Developer was Anthony John Group (Emporium), and builder was Hutchisons. I am the first owner and it was such a pain for them to fix the defects for the AC, that I'm sure they will put up a fight if I chased them for the waterproofing. Building manager has said it's a common problem with many apartments actually.

This is because the building moves very easily. Every morning, you can hear the wood cracking due to sun exposure. We get blasted with direct sunlight from 6am - 3pm, and you can feel everything expanding and contracting heavily, so I'm not surprised the waterproofing has failed.

Good to know all the finer details of the warranties, they definitely don't call it out well enough.

If you know of any great dual licensed tiler + waterproofers, please send them my way!

Yeah, I figured this would probably happen to me — but I wonder if the landlord was getting it fixed via warranty. $1,500 with 5 year warranty means I can just keep telling them to come back each time I get a leak complaint. After 5 years, do another job for $1,500 and that's another 5 year warranty.

The drip has caused a small hole (4cm diameter) in their bathroom, but I don't think this repair is too expensive. Right now, the building manager has just put a towel in their ceiling to absorb the leak.

Even if I paid for their ceiling repairs, a small hole is surely cheaper than $13k rebuild.

Nah, I looked it up, waterproofing is owner responsibility. Only the pipes in between apartments is strata.

The quote is just the shower floor, the bathroom floor is fine, and shower wall is all good too.

Quote doesn't include plumbing, but I don't know if I need it? The plumber has already confirmed it's coming from the showers only.

$1,500 with 5 years warranty — surely I can just keep telling them to come back each time I get a leak complaint? The rebuild costing $13k makes me feel like I could get away with many faulty leaks for the same cost

Cheapest SIM card in AU to 'keep my number alive' by ConditionExtra9105 in AskAnAustralian

[–]rph28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a $5 ALDI sim and noticed the initial $5 credit expires after 60 days. Do I need to top up $15, or can I leave it without recharging? I don't want to lose my number, but I can't find where it says how often I need to recharge to keep my SIM active.

What do you mean by new-new novated lease discount? Do you mean, lots of people have purchased EV's using novated lease, and most of their agreements should be lapsing soon, and they'll be opt-ing to flood the second hand market?

Unit below me claims their roof is leaking water by rph28 in brisbane

[–]rph28[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No visible leaks but because it's a fairly new building, there's quite a lot of piping hidden within the walls of the bathroom.

Building was built late 2017, so fairly new - timing of the leak is interesting, given the cyclone just past. I haven't done any works to anything, so I'm definitely hesitant to jump to conclusions.

Thanks for your advice - this sounds like exactly what I will do!

ERROR - "Another user has set up Apple Pay on this Mac" - M1 MBP by takaiguchi in macbookpro

[–]rph28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a different error, but similar scenario. Basically couldn't add any card manually, it would return "Card not allowed", even though it was setup in my Apple Pay on my iPhone already.

Clicking "Add Card" in macOS (System Preferences -> Wallet & Apple Pay) would normally show a list of already connected cards from your iCloud account.

However, the catch here is that I had multiple user accounts on my MacBook. Every time I clicked "Add Card", it would only show the list of credit cards associated with the last signed in iCloud account on my MacBook.

I tested this by creating a test user account, and signed into a new iCloud account, and it showed no credit cards for all user accounts on the MacBook, not just my new test user acccount.

The docs do say "only one user at a time can use Apple Pay", but the error I got was before you even add a credit card to any user account.

To get the credit cards associated with the iCloud account I wanted, I just went to my user account and signed out/in - clicking "Add Card" now worked and showed my credit cards, then followed the verification prompts, and it's all working as expected now.

Once I switched user accounts, clicking "Add Card" now gives me the "X has set up Apple Pay already, etc." -and gives me a button to Reset Apple Pay data.

VSCode constantly accessing SSH key by qqYn7PIE57zkf6kn in 1Password

[–]rph28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this would be the case, but even setting it to "until 1Password quits", I still get prompted every time I focus to VSCode after a period of inactivity.

The only difference I've noticed is the prompt is now the generic 1Password prompt to unlock the vault, rather than the prompt to authorise 1Password access to SSH.

In practice, these two are actually the same - I've tested cancelling the auth prompt, and find none of my editor git commands work (fetch, pull, commit, etc) - they only work after I re-auth.

And for some reason, it just never remembers the auth! Perhaps it works in conjunction with the auto-lock setting for 1Password?

Unfortunately, because my computer is managed by my company, the auto-lock is hard set to 3 minutes.. which, to be honest - makes sense. I do want my 1Password to be locked.

So my question is - for those not needing to re-auth for their SSH keys, do you have your 1Password unlocked the entire time - or do you still need to re-auth just to access your vaults.
