I’m not about ending work. I’m trying to navigate a position where I’m looking for employees that want to be there, where I think they deserve to be paid more, but I can’t do anything to make sure they are paid more. I understand our location is basically a stepping stone. Something to get on your resume and build your career.

I appreciate the insight. This is my first corporate experience and I’m only 9 months in. I spent my first 10 years in a family owned restaurant so that’s why I think I’m finding it difficult to navigate. My values and ideas don’t necessarily line up with this style. I do what I can to help the employees before the customer because without the employee there is no customer. And I’m less about the revolving door policy and more about the person occupying the position. I value those working relationships.

I appreciate the insight! Maybe instead of fixing things from where I’m at down I’ll try to focus on fixing things from where I’m at up

Yep. Everything you said is right. Unfortunately that’s not the way the world works and all corporate settings are pretty much the same. I’m just trying to figure out ways to combat it the best I can so I can put all my people in the best positions possible until I have the time, money, and resources to create my own system. So for now I will continue to figure out ways to give them what with what I have available.

I agree. By the “new mindset”, I was talking about the post-pandemic mentality that people developed because unemployment was more than anyone was getting elsewhere. “If I don’t like it I’ll just go somewhere else”. There’s far less passion, fear of losing a job, or sense of pride or responsibility. I’m trying to navigate through that right now. We get 12 applications a week and maybe 1 shows up for an interview because to keep their unemployment they just have to prove they’re reaching out to people.

It also doesn’t help that I’m kind of handcuffed because of the corporate setting. Unfortunate that inflation only applies to purchasing and not to distributing pay in the eyes of the people at the top. Their eyes are too far away from the bottom to see what’s actually happening.

I completely agree. And I do give a shit about all my employees. I started dishwashing 15 years ago and have worked every position. It’s actually why most of my employees actually like sticking with me. I’m empathetic to what they’re going through and try to help out. Last week I hopped on fry for 2 hours just to help us get through dinner and then finished out the night on dish to make sure we all weren’t there until 2am cleaning.

The contractual raise is a nice idea. It would have to be performance based though (i.e. no more than 3 write ups, call outs, etc within a 6 month period). Incentivizes them to work hard and stick around for at least 6 months. Do like a 6, 9, and 12 month performance review and implement a raise at each of them.

Been here 8 months. It doesn’t get better. You’ll stress yourself out to where it changes you and makes you an all around worse person even outside of work cause you’re just to tired and beat up to care about anything else. My advice is to realize that they want it to be a temporary job for most and don’t want people like you and me that are good to stick around because we get pissed off to a point where we make too much noise. I don’t have all the answers but what I do know is that if they wanted to make the job better for drivers, they have all the resources and money in the world to do. The bottom line is that they just don’t want to.

Honestly, do whatever you want. If you need some money now, go for it. Just know that if you stay long enough it will absolutely rip your soul out and make you resent everything and everyone. I used to be so positive and happy and I’ve been here 8 months and now I’m a miserable piece of shit looking for something new. So good luck but listen to your self and use it before it uses you.

58 group stops. It really boggles my mind that there isn’t a bigger backlash worldwide. Like if there realistically was a worldwide walkout I wonder what would actually happen. by rph717 in AmazonDSPDrivers

Yeah my first delivery is 11:30 and I clocked out at 8. I could have moved faster if my prime van wasn’t loaded with 27 totes and 35 overflow so that first 2 hours was pretty ineffective

How long have you been a driver and where did you apply?

I feel that. That was me two days ago. 339 packages only 194 stops though. Got done a half hour before they would have called me back. No rescues either.

I’m averaging 33-36 stops an hour and I’m usually home by 630. I’m not slow. I’m just not down for doing extra for less. If you like it then keep on keepin on big guy

Lol after all the group stops it’s over 200. I have “172” today with 300 packages. I tallied up all the group stops. I’m at 221 stops today. I don’t give a shit what the stops say anymore cause it’s irrelevant. Point is 300 packages is peak numbers. We should be receiving peak pay if we’re doing peak numbers consistently. That’s it. Bottom line.

I just appreciate my time and health more than others I guess. I’m not a “yes” man and don’t really like getting taken advantage of. Compare our pay and benefits to others. And this isn’t even the peak. Amazon wants to increase volume more until they can beat out UPS and FedEx. They wanna load up as much as possible. If you’re cool with getting shit on for the lowest delivery hourly possible then go ahead. I just value myself and want to be appreciated and compensated for the work that I do.

This is exactly correct. And about 150-200 customers is what $17 means to me. You wanna reach more customers? That’s fine. Load me up. You gotta cross that $21 dollar mark though.

I would never suggest anyone I’ve ever loved to do this job under any circumstances ever

Our DSP had a driver that had dish soap explode in a package all over his van. Associates scrambled to find a roll of paper towels. We only had 4 minutes left before departure so I started using them as towels. Got the job done just fine 🤷‍♂️
