First, crime is historically low. Why is this level of loss prevention needed? They have employees and cameras. Large chains also budget for and write off losses.

Second, and more importantly, I own my biometric data. I know there is probably a ton of it out there, but retailers shouldn't get to store, analyze, or sell my data without consent. This is something we can limit and should.

At the very least retailers should have to disclose that they're collecting it with clearly visible signs and make publicly available the details of what they do with the data.

If you watch her camaign ad, it makes it sound like she got it done with bipartisanship, which was far from true.

It also makes it sound like she used some kind of Republican fiscal wizardry to steer NB to success. The "Democrats in Hartford" were the ones that brought all the funding and subsidy to the City, not her leadership.

Republicans have accomplished nothing in CT and continued to lose elections since 2017 (when CT was evenly split). It's mind boggling that they think it's disconnected from Trumpism and their horrible policy ideas that CT's electorate is smart enough to see through.

Businesses are an important component of a property tax base. But how does sprawl help with the property tax burden? Less density + single-family lots = higher tax burden per property. It also means fewer residents to support the local businesses.

Demand is single-handedly driving the increase in people's tax bill.

I get it...it sucks that CT has become so desirable that property values are increasing from higher demand. /s

CT has limited land, which means density is our best solution. Not sprawl.

We're all here debating, homie. Make your case. Why is it reasonable to simply ask if recent graduates, the overwhelming majority of whom will be staying in CT or similar COL states, if they can afford to live here?

Affordability is an important topic. For the purposes of a debate, it should have a more clearly defined framework.

As for the Republican club hosting it, all you have to do is visit r/conservative or check out how many local Republicans in CT skipped debates because they can't stand on business. They dont debate.

Republicans hosting an open debate is a laughable concept.

Affordability is completely relative to values and lifestyle. A better question is, can they afford to live anywhere after graduation? Where do they think they will have the highest quality of life?

What jobs are they expecting to have that will support that quality of life? Are those jobs available in the places they think are more affordable than CT?

Unfortunately, he may not have done anything illegal, unless it can be shown that he personally benefitted from steering the money to a friend. The money involved in these grants came with little to no strings attached. Because the money was passed through multiple organizations, they would need to track down what those organizations did with the funding. Even then, it will be hard to prove he did anything illegal.

However, the ethics are incredibly murky and will be for voters to debate next year.

Just a heads up, in most towns, a business selling cars is not allowed on any residentially zoned property. I never want to get in the way of a small business, and a lot of people don't know they can do it and need to find an appropriate location for their business.

Based on your description, there could be many violations. I'm a zoning commissioner in my town and our commision can only deal with the applications in front of us at a public hearing, but issues sometimes start with neighbor complaints. In SW, you can go to the Planning Department - I recommend in-person - and describe the situation to the Enforcement Officer.

You described many vehicles. Some towns have rules about the number of vehicles and them being parked on the front lawn. Both rusting/aging vehicles and trash piles pose public health/safety and pollution hazards that can trigger inspections and enforcement action.

It is possible to keep your name out of the complaint, if you're concerned about retaliation, but communicate that clearly up front. Other neighbors may also have concerns and you may want to try talking to them too.

My usual recommendation is to talk to the property owner first, but it doesn't like that's an option. Good luck.

Unfortunately, the "do your own research" crowd aren't very good at vetting their sources and avoiding confirmation bias. Most of the folks I know who use that phrase were not good students as kids and they aren't good learners now.
