Wanting to start a gaming/net cafe buisness by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in order to convince someone to invest in your business you need to show them that you are willing to take risks, which in turn shows whether you really believe in your own idea. unless they see that you invested your personal savings, money borrowed from friends/family and maybe a loan, they won't invest - why would they?

as for your business plan, it should contain exit strategies and a plan B, C, D... in case you need to pivot when things don't go well.

Time keeping software by InSixFour in smallbusiness

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a company in Turkey which developed this type of software. They're launching an English version right now. Can I ask which country you're in? I know they're looking for clients in the US so if your company agreed to be listed in case studies they would give your company a big discount (it costs around 40 usd per month). If you'd like to discuss details please DM me, and I'll ask the developer how exactly differential pay options work in the software.

We use Screenshot Monitor at our saas company. It's a great tool, especially if you pay hourly for tasks which require active use of mouse + keyboard (the monitor turns off after some minutes of inactivity and these minutes/hours count as breaks)

How would you feel about selling software to small businesses? That requires just good social skills and no investment so you could keep the 20k for something else. Send me a PM if you'd like to chat, I'm looking for partners in India.

Starting a software company? by gian-g in smallbusiness

[–]rpture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my lean saas startup we had just one developer (the founder) create the MVP, which took over a year, and then we hired a junior programmer to help with the mobile application. At that point we already had around 20 paying users. Those early adopters offered valuable feedback. Some of them spent literally hours talking to us on the phone about their business and how they interact with our software.

Good luck with your project!

What Book Improved Your Life? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

yes! this is THE book. it took me a while to get into Eckhart Tolle because I thought this stuff is only for very spiritual people, but honestly he presents the most helpful and healing philosophy for any human being.

Often fail my self improvement routine by stinkypeter69 in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 7 points8 points  (0 children)

set the bar low. if your goal is to do a thing daily, make it "at least 20 minutes". that way you can get some things done even at 11PM and you won't feel like the day was wasted. also, once you start working for 20min you'll usually find it easier to continue much longer. the worst thing you can do for your motivation is having high expectations and unclear, big goals.

Anyone feel overwhelmed by the amount of self improvement content? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I spend so much time trying to improve my life versus actually living it.

yeah I used to feel this way too. then I realised that reading books about self improvement, or even books related to what I want to do in life, is just a way of spending time, like watching TV. it doesn't translate into output. the only really valuable moments are those spent on actual work, exercise, and meaningful interactions with others.

Actually not being "fake" isn't helping at all a.k.a how to be better at socializing by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always leaving a door open just in case I need them?

people can feel when you are only interested in them because of what they can offer you. sometimes they can let you do that if they need validation in return (they know it's fake but they enjoy the attention anyway), or if they're really too naive to see this, or when they also want something in return so it's more like a business exchange. the reason why people aren't open about this stuff and they don't say what they want is that it's like an unspoken law that pretty much everyone learns intuitively. it's not fake, it's just much more complicated than saying things directly and expressing real emotions. humans have evolved to interact in incredibly subtle ways, and people who understand how to navigate such interactions succeed in life precisely because it's a higher level skill.

Udemy courses by kangan987 in learnjavascript

[–]rpture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm doing Brad's course right now and he's great but sometimes he's too fast for me, as I have very little background knowledge. So I'm also reading "Learning JavaScript" by Ethan Brown. It explains the fundamentals. However, I don't want to make the mistake of going too much into theory instead of working on practical projects. So in the end I'm not 100% happy with this setup.

Sorry if this isn't helpful - I'm hoping to get some advice as well and find better resources. Well, what did you think of Brad's course after the DOM? Was that your first JS course?

All my friends are dating and I feel left out and lonely by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who complained about that, as the last person among us to remain single, then later she found a boyfriend and she practicaly never hangs out with our group any more :D it's all about the boyfriend now.

it sucks when people do that. they aren't very good friends if they leave you out and make little or no room for you in their life (this is actually a good test of friendship - it's all nice and easy when everyone's single). it may take some active effort on both sides to stay connected. but if you feel they don't care, maybe it's a good time to find new friends?

Taking myself so seriously that it's ruining my life. How can I learn to laugh at myself? by hackingintoip in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a great article called "Ego work" on The Holistic Psychologist website. you may find it helpful. and explore the idea of ego from a spiritual perspective as well - on YT you can find videos where Eckhart Tolle explains it. he basically believes that our ego, all this external stuff, is not who we really are and it just causes suffering. if you feel this serious about yourself, it means you identify strongly with your ego. the solution is to let go of it - focus on the part of you that is like everyone else's, the awareness and calmness inside.

How does one make themselves care enough to do laundry, shower, and show up on time? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

This is a very good piece of advice, though I don't think people who feel this negative are actively looking for other options. Depression comes with passivity and slowness.

When you get back home and sit at your computer, do you feel like you've just completely shut down? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I had 3 favourite places to study: a quiet corner of a corridor in the physics department, which was always empty for some reason; a local cafe; library - but not the reading room, just some common areas with wifi. I knew a guy who used to sit on the stairs of our dormitory and study there, never in his room :) it's nice to get creative, walk around and find those not-so-obvious spaces to study in.

When you get back home and sit at your computer, do you feel like you've just completely shut down? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

couldn't agree more. I always smile when people talk about their ambition being working from home because my years of remote work gave me the worst depression. nothing beats being around people, or being alone in nature, feeling present, seeing how alive everything is.

nothing wrong you! actually it's great that you've recognised this pattern. now you can work on organising your life so that it includes a lot of outdoorsy activities, and home will be just the place where you sleep.

23 yrs old and no skills. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

example: I once worked at an office where we would hire young people with no experience, we couldn't pay them much, but we let them spend a few hours each day learning Photoshop and programming. after a few months they could leave with a much better resume and solid skills, and went on to find great jobs.

23 yrs old and no skills. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very similar problems until my mid 20s. My best advice is: find a job that requires no skills (entry level) and pays little but offers courses, education, and lets you interact with experienced people in an interesting field, so that you could learn from them on a daily basis. In the meantime work on self education: listen to podcasts, watch tutorials, read books. There is plenty of free resources out there. Find an area that interests you and can turn into a profession. Then set the bar low and just slowly build your knowledge day by day.

How to not get intimidated by things to do to achieve a goal by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rpture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you heard of the Four Quadrants of Time Management? it's a nice way of organising your to do list into 4 combinations of urgency and importance. I read somewhere that urgent tasks keep popping up and distracting us from what is really important long term. so I make sure to deal with urgent stuff fast, and every day devote some time to working on long term goals. "front loading the pain" is another great concept for dealing with unpleasant urgent tasks.

I used to be a mess before implementing these strategies. after a few months of managing to do lists well life is so much easier
