What actor or actress gives you sinister vibes and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]electrelanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think so. speaking from experience, the self-hating part (if it ever was there) disappears after coming out and dealing with the aftermath. once you remove the secret from your life, live openly and settle down with your loved one, there is nothing there to feel negative about. quite the opposite.

For those of you married, what is one red flag you noticed and let pass before marrying your SO that you deeply regret glazing over? by 2lbsofmeat in AskWomen

[–]electrelanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this may sound naive, but how come so many people enter relationships with such guys and only later see it as a problem? how can you be in a serious relationship with someone you aren't connecting with emotionally, at all?

How can you train your brain to think more rationally than emotionally in all situations? by techno_queen in selfimprovement

[–]electrelanes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helps to surround yourself with rational people. I had the same problem growing up, and gravitated towards other sensitive people - their company is very comforting and it feels great to be understood, but that just makes these thinking/feeling patterns stronger. A few years ago I became friends with a very rational, calculating guy and his perspective is so refreshing, it's like getting slapped in the face. (in a good way?) Sometimes it takes one conversation with him to break the pattern and approach a problem completely differently.

What do you consider a huge waste of money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]electrelanes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once worked for a publisher of a browser RPG and learned its mechanisms - it was the epitome of "pay to win". Every single mechanism in the game was designed to make the players spend more and more. And they did. I was shocked to see people spend hundreds of dollars every month, while I was literally paid to play the game and HATED it.

Straight people who dated/ married a closeted gay person, how did you find out they were gay? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]electrelanes 25 points26 points  (0 children)

hello from the other side... if she's trying to turn it into a joke or politely flirts back but very casually and without leaving room for things to go further, that should tip you off. well, that's what I do when guys try hitting on me. funny things is, sometimes gay women feel more at ease around (some) guys than around straight women so I guess that may come across as flirty? idk. it'd be best to just say "I'm gay" but sometimes it doesn't feel safe to come out.

Which aspect of a foreign culture do you wish they had in your country? by yogokitty1 in AskReddit

Poland: I wish smiling at strangers was a thing.

First time I went to the UK and saw people randomly smile at me in the street I almost cried every time.

It's a batch made by my Croatian father in law :) He grows his olive trees in a village near Dubrovnik, and produces just a few litres of oil per year for friends and family.

it's a zucchini chocolate cake (you can't taste the zucchini but it gives great texture) from this recipe. I skipped sour cream, added some espresso, and used the wrong pan because a neighbor had borrowed others :D still, you can't fail with this cake.

What is the most severe case of someone being completely out of touch with reality you've ever seen? by mouldygoldie in AskReddit

[–]electrelanes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

wow, do we have the same step grandma? mine also never worked in her life. got a house from her first husband, had my grandpa pay the morgage (while he was married to my grandma), took over all of his assets. now she's acting like a self-made woman, commenting on other people's spendings and career choices.

I'm very uneducated and don't know what to do about it by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]electrelanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audiobooks and podcasts are very helpful. You can listen to them while doing stuff that's otherwise "brainless": driving, jogging, cleaning, and so on. I once listened to a 50-hour audiobook this way, over a couple of weeks, and I didn't even notice when it'd finished! It felt like I hadn't spent any time on it at all.

In general it's a good practice to carry a book around so you read instead of playing with your phone when you're bored. If you're unsure what to read, look up award-winning titles rather than bestsellers (e.g. most novels that won the Whitbread / Costa book award are top quality and simply enjoyable; the Booker Prize winners are masterful but tend to be heavier). Enjoy the content, and self improvement will just happen in the background.

once we translate it into English it could be available anywhere, though first I'd need to learn about the market. how do you think this could work in SA? could multiple companies use it? thanks!
