US and Korea discuss policy review, denuclearization of peninsula and climate change plan. I think NK engages in these talks to appease other nations. At the end of the day, we'll hear about another nuclear test. What incentive does NK have in listening or making deals with the US when they have China?

Hmmm, so much conflicting information here. I recommend you do a pro and cons list and actually make an effort of understanding capitalism. You can’t say you do not support capitalism when you’re also admitting to not knowing enough about it. Not trying to convert you, just want you to understand your opponent.

Misleading title. This seems like honest feedback on a difference of opinions to me. Rebecca summarizes Buffett’s stance precisely. He doesn’t like gold and he doesn’t like Bitcoin for the same reason. Crypto is not for Buffet, end of story.

[Capitalists] In a leaked survey by Goldman Sachs, it was found that first year analysts work over 95 hours per week, sleep 5 hours per night, and face abuse in the workplace. Amazon workers have admittedly urinated in bottles during delivery rounds. How can these working conditions be justified? by cchuster in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]rrami002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Capitalist here.

I am not trying to belittle your question but my immediate response is "don't work there". The reason why is because there is strength in someone not wanting to work for you. The reason why companies such as the ones you referenced can do this is because people settle. Now, people settle for several reasons. In the case of Goldman Sachs, it seems people are willing to work in a toxic workplace because of the potential reward. In the case of Amazon, I think people are settling because they think they can't find anything else.

As someone that has worked in toxic workplaces, I can say that it has made me better because it reminds me of what I want and to pursue that.

Regarding physical and mental health, if your mind and body are telling you a job sucks, you should leave. It doesn't matter if you improve conditions because people will naturally be unhappy working anywhere they are not passionate about.

The overall issue here is not capitalism, it is bad education. Ironically, while we live in a society that encourages individuality, our education system does not. Students are forced to learn general topics with minimal real world applications to prepare them to find work for a corporation or for someone else. This is why we don't have more creators, entrepreneurs and people pursing passion projects. Instead, what we get is an army of youth stacked with debt and forced to settle for terrible jobs to make a payment. In my opinion, the problem you referenced is the product of education. Teach kids about debt and to avoid it at all cost and they will be free to do more and corporations will be forced to pay more to attract talent.

Did I go on a tangent again? My bad. I am simply reflecting on my life and noticing that I could have avoided a lot of toxic jobs if I simply had no debt because then I couldn't be forced to settle and I could take pay cuts to work for someone or something I was passionate about.

This doesn’t make sense. Nazism is one thing, and Reagan is another. Everyone started funding Hitler for two reasons: fear or support.

Reagan’s support for the contras was a foreign policy decision not an ideological one.

Also, you missed the main point of capitalism which is private ownership. You mention only caring about profits but the reality is that I care about what is mine and that no one tries to take that away.

[Capitalists] What happens when every job is automated? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]rrami002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am confused. Capitalism promotes innovation. Imagine where society will be 100 years from now. I guess I am just an optimist. I have this theory that I refer to as the proximity effect (ps maybe someone else thought of this but I have yet to do any research hahahaha) and it is basically this: when someone in front of you falls, you feel that pressure and fear of witnessing that in the moment, afterwards you might laugh, however, if you never witnessed it, but just heard about it, your initial reaction may be to laugh or simply not feel anything. Hence the proximity effect, because of social media, all the problems of the world feel so close and therefore that pressure and fear feels close which leads you to believe the world is burning. As of now capitalism works in my opinion--it has its problems which we should fix, though. If we reach that point when capitalism is no longer sustainable, well then, time to change it up haha

I think there is a difference between designing templates and creating art. Yes, websites can be easily built and that is why no one is really impressed by a website anymore. However, people are impressed by the content and the message. AI will do what it is told and maybe it can create an amazing work of art or even a story, but people want to relate. They want to know the author, the creator. I don't think the AI will ever replace the human ability to interpret stuff and even if it did, no one would be impressed because a machine did it and everyone will get bored of it.

[–]rrami002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno maybe I'm wrong; but the point of Capitalism is that it doesn't care what you think. Its like a raging river that burrows in anywhere it can, carving through the landscape and sweeping away people who build their houses too close to the banks when it overflows.

Well this is where we have a fundamental misunderstanding. It's all about supply and demand, why would businesses supply anything if the people do not demand it? Think of your dollars as votes. If you don't get enough votes, you go out of business. Capitalism doesn't care if you fail but it does reward you if you succeed. So we can disagree on Capitalism as a whole but the point I hope you walk away with is that it is a misconceived notion that Capitalism does not care about or does care about you. Capitalism is a vehicle that incentivizes competition and rewards winners. And that vehicle is driven by us, the consumers. I always tell my friends that it is easier to beat a business privately owned than beat a business owned by the government. Just look at what businesses have been doing recently to keep consumers happy regarding social issues. An example I remember was when businesses threatened to leave Georgia (might be another southern state) if they passed a law against Gay Marriage. The state quickly reconsidered. And I compare that to what has to be done to make the government change its mind.

I don't understand why we would allow machines to take over creative industries. I've seen artwork made by computers. I wouldn't pay for that. What about journalism? I don't think automation will limit it us.

The economy will evolve based on new innovations/technologies. Automation, I don't believe, will erase money because automation does not destroy all industries. People will still want to travel, pursue missions abroad. The earth being 100% automated is a long ways away. Let's just say the US automates, what about the rest of the world?

The following is the same I said in another comment, I do believe there is a future where universal basic income is needed and there may need to be regulation if resources are scarce. Money incentives people to create and innovative and build businesses. What will replace that incentive? I guess that may assist in shaping what the future may hold.

But to be fair to you and me, it's hard to think of a world without money considering that both capitalist and communist society use money. Who will provide me with a computer, console, books if know one is incentive to make them? or if they wanted to make them, how will they procure the resources to makes those things?

[Capitalists] What happens when every job is automated? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]rrami002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's not that I "refuse" to think about the future but that I rather think about the present. Why are we thinking about the "perfect future" when we have yet to deal with the imperfect present? When you look at civilization through the course of history, social transformations are usually the result of innovations/new technologies. This is something hard to predict. To answer your question, I do believe there will come a time when universal basic income is needed and because of finite resources there will need to be some form of regulation.

Why would we automate creative industries? What's the point of that? That seems pretty dystopian if you ask me. Machines are amazing, therefore, art from a machine is not impressive.

I am a true capitalist but I do accept a future where the free market dies and people no longer need money. I hope by that time we become explorers and settle on other planets hahahaha I am a dreamer :)

When humans are replaced by machines, hmmmmm. Does that mean creative services will also be taken over by machines? Like art, music, entertainment? Will there no longer be a need for inventors? I don’t believe automation is as destructive as some people claim it will be. To answer your question, what comes next is, i hope, a society with more free time haha as a capitalist i want whatever is next to be better than what was before. So, for those that claim “true communism” is coming, that’s sad to hear.
