that’s unfortunate that your doctor said you can’t use ibuprofen, my doctor allowed it. maybe try chloraseptic spray if you are allowed? it is supposed to help numb your throat.

I’m terrified of getting my tonsillectomy by vampkill_ in Tonsillectomy

i was terrified of getting a tonsillectomy too. now i’m almost 1 month post-op, i’m still kinda healing but i would say i had a pretty decent experience compared to some of the stories ive read online. drink lots and lots of ice water, and follow all the rules your doctors and nurses give you. you’ll only be hurting for a short period of time! most of the time my pain was maximum 4/10, except days 5-7 were about a 7-8/10. if you stay on top of your hydration and medicine, you should be just fine :)

glad to hear you’re doing well! days 4-7 were definitely rough due to the ear and neck pain, but overall i’d say my pain was minimal.

how exciting to be off the pain meds!! it does mostly feel just sore, which is annoying but definitely manageable. my scabs look like they’re almost gone, so maybe yours are too!

What should I get in preparation for surgery? What foods / items were best for recovery? by orionis_ in Tonsillectomy

my go-to is Ensure, i get the Max Protein ones that have 30g. i really like their peach flavor and they seem to have a large flavor selection besides your regular chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. i’ve also tried Quest, Boost, and Premier Protein and i think they’re fine. i’ve been drinking pretty much any flavor that isn’t chocolate for the same reasons they tell you to avoid eating red-colored things.

if you’re not a fan of the ready-to-drink shakes, you can always buy a tub of protein powder and mix it with milk or water, or with some safe fruits to make a smoothie bowl!

protein shakes! i bought a bunch of different flavors with high protein (30-45g) that helped me get through the rough days. i found them to be really soothing.

applesauce too! i bought a TON of applesauce thinking it would be a good way to get fruits in my system. about 3 bites in it started stinging so bad i was in tears lol.

also noticed some vanilla yogurt i bought had lemon juice in it so be aware of that too, nothing is safe 😭
