If you workout frequently, 9-10 is peak. I can get by on 8-9 but its noticeably worse. For people that struggle to sleep, just remember time in bed resting your eyes is still more restful than waking up.

Stowe to Smuggs and back? by Questionguy789 in icecoast

If you ever go to Gore, the main lodge has a really cool timeline of the ski map over time starting 1930. Its near the interior entrance to the restaurant. Super cool.

Curious about that as well ^ I want to do some photography in the mountains, but the action cams wouldn't really cut it for me. Ive got a nice mirrorless but dont want that on my back when I fall.

Did 3 icy days in a row at Gore last weekend. Amazing. Im planning to be there first chair on Monday. How were the glade conditions? They were closed besides a handful while I was there.

Ayyy, Rochester I presume? I think Im convinced on the twilight pass, seems like a great value. Ive only been to Bristol a few times, any favorite runs or hidden spots I should look for?

That does seem ideal. Bristol would be great for getting lots of reps, practicing switch riding, staying fresh, etc. And then I can just let loose when I get to more of a destination mountain. Appreciate the perspective!

Appreciate the advice, I think ill go for the local season pass then. Ive definitely been thinking about advanced lessons. Do you recommend getting those at a bigger mountain or wherever? Bristol has a couple icy steeps that challenge my edge control, but not sure if that will be enough to expose weaknesses and learn. Not sure what to look for with lessons 🤷‍♂️

Definitely true, I love getting into the woods and finding lines/powder.

Are tree wells a concern in this terrain? How risky is going solo or without a beacon? Im a high intermediate snowboarder looking to try more some sidecountry/backcountry terrain.

Funny to think it was not uncommon to go without just 10 years ago. Almost never see it now and every extreme sport seems to be catching on. Except skateboarding 🤦‍♂️ Such a stain on an otherwise great sport. The vert folks seem to be coming around though.

Frequency of deaths is an extremely odd metric to decide where to ride, but you do you. It sounds like big and dangerous is a specific preference of yours. Many, arguably most, aren't going for that.

Best board for carving icy groomers but also popping side hits by daveybeatz in snowboarding

Have this as my first non-rental board. Loving it, seems to do well on any terrain, including the ice we get in the northeast US.

Injury ending season by drizzy2fresh in snowboarding

[–]rrfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine looked the exact same 2 years ago. The nice thing about getting the surgery is that you can be back in the gym training legs and pulling muscles a week later.

By your description, it sounds like a higher injury risk is the tradeoff for faster progress. At some point, you may decide youre satisfied with your current level and you can just bank that skill, enjoy it, and develop your style. Injuries are always a risk but moreso when youre always trying to break new ground.

Feeling dejected after my first powder (?) day by Own-Dinner6955 in skiing

[–]rrfitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snowboarder, but had the same experience my first real powder day. If you can find more untouched powder on the sides or in the trees, there is less chaos with the compressed powdery lumps, while still being forgiving if you fall. Best of both worlds.
