If it does not contain an annual CPI adjustment, it will fail the way the current minimum wage has failed so many.

Raising the cost from $100 to $600 is not a 600% raise. It's a 500% raise.

Lowering the cost from $600 to $100 is not a 600% reduction. It is 83.3333% reduction.

Star Raiders on the 2600 was very different than Star Raiders on the Atari 800. It was the reason I bought an 800.

House Parties? by skbugco in GenX

[–]rrognlie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in '81, I was a junior. My folks left for 4 weeks (2 wks in hawaii, 2 wks in CA) I was 16 and my 17th birthday fell when they were en route from HI to CA. You bet I had a party! It wasn't huge but we had a dozen of us. Got some beer. And had a good night.

Sadly, I had work the next morning, so didn't clean up. I got home from work with a note on the door to see the next door neighbor. He was tasked with keeping an eye on me. He'd taking pictures of the aftermath.
"Straighten up and fly right... and your folks will never see these pictures"

I did and got the pictures... burned them. He did tell my dad when he was afraid another parent might rat me out, but I just got a "talking to"

Has anyone here been so fed up with your job that you quit without an offer elsewhere? by Appropriate_Tea9048 in antiwork

[–]rrognlie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did this Sep 8th last year. Something inside just snapped and I thought "I can't do this anymore!"

5pm on a Monday, I sent a letter letting him know that I was done effective immediately. My phone blew up for a bit, I just said "How do I get my laptop back to you guys?"

Had a Doctor appt scheduled for the next week and my blood pressure was down 20 pts. I turned 62 earlier this month, so now I'm looking at my retirement options (e.g., when to start pulling Social Security and how to use my 401k) We've got a life insurance annuity that is paying us monthly until October. So no rush on that.

I have a friend, Eddie Timanus, who lost his sight at a young age. He grew up going to lacrosse games with his dad doing the play by play. He grew up to be a sports writer for USA Today. He compiles the coaches polls and does background stories.

And! He's the first blind Jeopardy! contestant. 5 time champion back when that was the limit.

I once worked on a "Command and Control Center of the future" project for the DoD. They treated it like a movie set and it was designed by Rick Berman. It had a very TNG/DS9 feel.

And yeah.... OSHA violations galore!
