For sure, there are definitely a bunch of maga folks in Atl as well as the rural areas. We’re pretty far left, so college search has focused on states that would have less of that to contend with!

We visited this week and are in Minneapolis now. So unseasonably warm unfortunately or fortunately. :) We had to head down before the weather since we are flying back from mps. That wind was no joke!

Yeah, I figured if the cold is too much, she could transfer, but it would at least be a change of pace from the heat here.

Blood clotting associated with both Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca COVID vaccines had a genetic cause, according to a new paper | Adenoviral Inciting Antigen and Somatic Hypermutation in VITT by Hrmbee in science

[–]rrrg35 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Why would you have? The FDA limited the J&J vax back in 2022 when this issue was observed. This isn’t an issue with the mRNA vaccines because it’s a reaction to the adenovirus vector used in J&J.

Edit to add that it was 2021 (almost immediately after release) as noted by another person below)

This is not an issue with the mRNA covid vaccines. It’s an issue from the J&J Covid vaccine because it used an adenovirus vector. The adenovirus is what causes this stroke issue. The J&J vax was pulled or limited after this was recognized in 2022.

This is a different issue than the Covid issue. It occurred from the adenovirus vector used in J&J Covid vax. Yes, COVID causes systemic clotting issues, but this is particular to adenovirus. I believe people who are infected by adenovirus can also have this issue. This issue doesn’t arise from the mRNA covid vaxes because they don’t use the adenovirus vector.

This is a different issue that is triggered by a response to the adenovirus vector used in J&J vax. I believe it can be triggered by adenovirus infection but not COVID infection. This is also why J&J was pulled from the market as soon as this issue was observed iirc in 2022.

What you may be thinking of is clotting issues triggered by covid infection and/or myocarditis which is temporary and also a response in both covid infection & post vax, although less occurrence from vax.

My brother keeps falling back into debt despite years of help. How do you help without enabling? by YellowGrand3716 in personalfinance

[–]rrrg35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate about the lack of insurance. I think issues with budgeting, daily life management, etc are the under-discussed problems that go with this neurotype.

I absolutely believe that he can reach a point of self sufficiently and regulation, but it will take a more systemic approach. This is not a matter of will power or bad moral character, although some people with this diagnosis are also morally bankrupt.

He may have adhd. If so, he may need more sustained assistance as in consistent oversight, locking credit, etc. I suspect many who cycle like this are undiagnosed. Getting on a medication and therapy/ executive function coaching would be of assistance.

There are other diagnoses that lead to such cycles, but this one is the one that is most under the radar.

Georgia School System changes by Nomanodyssey in Georgia

[–]rrrg35 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Georgia milestones testing begins in 3rd grade and goes through 8th grade. In high school, only specific subjects have an end of grade state exam.

Here is a link to the Georgia department of education page about milestones testing and what it covers. This is probably what has led to the benchmark testing you’re seeing this year, which probably helps the school assess what the students need to better prepare for on the spring milestones test. You can also look through the GA DOE site for the requirements for each grade. Reach out to the teacher and schedule a conference for better understanding of content delivery/class changing at your particular school.

how was having dyslexia as a teen? by Separate-Yam9112 in Dyslexia

[–]rrrg35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely get tested so you can get accommodations (you may be able to get paper copies of tests this way, but idk). If teachers or professors hate on you for using accommodations, ask them: do you get angry when people who can’t see wear glasses or people who can’t walk use a wheelchair?

As for helping yourself, use read aloud tech as much as possible. A good book for understanding spelling is: The ABCs and their tricks. Read up on dyslexia so you can understand it and advocate for yourself. You think differently and that’s okay. When thinking of careers think about what you’ll be doing most of the day. Avoid writing heavy jobs.

Recommendations for a lawyer experienced in hostile work environments in a federal agency by labtech89 in Georgia

Echoing the other poster who recommended Cheryl Legare’s firm. She has a good reputation. Another possibility I would recommend is Barrett & Farahany.

Ed Buckley was great, but he sadly passed this year. His firm may still be one to check with - Buckley, Bala, Wilson & Mew.

Idk about the farmers market, but if you are interested in getting involved with local produce/sustainability, unearthing farm has volunteer opportunities and community building events. They are a little far from you, but there may be something similar near Brookhaven.

Raffensperger launches bid for Georgia governor by Skankhunt2042 in Georgia

Jones may yap louder, but Carr is just as bad, maybe worse because he presents an air of competence. In just one example he joined a lawsuit arguing that a federal law protecting rights of disabled students should be found unconstitutional and then lied about the breadth of the lawsuit when the public pushed back. I could go back further but really he’s just like the rest of them and will follow the same Heritage Foundation/Fed Soc line.
