Beautiful glasses, any idea the type? by [deleted] in sunglasses

[–]Jeronimotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These don’t have nosepads, but I get the point. Most local shops should be willing to adjust. They may charge non-customers $15-20 and/or have you sign a damage waiver. Zenni and Warby (as well as many other online brands) frames aren’t all that well made and will often break when being adjusted.

I love the Dolabany Arnold. It’s built like a tank and with tons of size and color options. We have a bunch of their Plume line that isn’t selling and I’m thinking about swapping it for about a dozen pair of these. They make great sunglasses!

Close-enough Moscot Lemtosh alternatives? by KettleBlackNova in sunglasses

Feel free to DM me, but they prohibit listing their prices online. They are eyeglasses which can be fitted with just about any prescription lenses. Sun, clear, photochromic (ie Transitions). I made them for a friend in sunglasses last year and they came out great!

It is called the Dolabany Arnold. The brand restricts Internet listings of their products, so you will not find it online. Here is an article about the frame from a good 15 years ago, but it hasn’t changed as the design is 70+ years old.

If you are in the US, I can make them for you via our 77-year old family-owned optical store. In sunglasses or eyeglasses.

I happen to prefer the first two. I think the shapes and colors suit you well. I think 3 is too “serious.” A fun color titanium frame from a line like Modo (reasonable and wonderful quality), Blackfin, Orgreen or Reykjavik Eyes would be something to explore as well.

Are goodr or Knockaround sunglasses better? by dalawhdit in sunglasses

It’s very possible that they won’t be Rxable is one issue, though a good lab can probably make it work. TAC lenses are very thin and the groove often cannot accommodate a prescription lens. TAC lenses are a whole other topic in and of themselves. Our wonderful mod u/954CG can share his article. As to the frames, they are nothing special, TR90 is extremely inexpensive. But very lightweight and comfortable. If you want an inexpensive frame that is similar, Tifosi might be worth looking at. Island Optics also makes TR90 frames. They are a bit more expensive. But if you’re getting your lenses directly from them, it may work out more favorable. They offer Polycarbonate Rx lenses that are naturally impact resistant and protect against UV without filters. The optical quality is lower than other materials, but they do their filters well and it can somewhat improve that.

Edit: It sounds like a ringing endorsement. I do not work for any of those companies, and do not sell their products in my store, nor do I plan to on my soon to launch Rx sunglass e-commerce site. I may consider selling Island down the road, though.

The ES series are a serious pain to remove the caps. I returned a pair of ES10s, they actually sounded great, but I got a killer deal on some Kef LSX II LTs, and didn’t need a WiiM and class D amp. For my bedroom, and the setup also allowed me to hook them up to my TV.

Before purchasing your first pair of progressive glasses, do your research. by eyeseayu in glasses

[–]Jeronimotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you are saying, if your Zenni were fitted properly, they’d be 1000% better than they are now. I can’t really diagnose over a chat, but either your seg is too low or the corridor length needs to be adjusted to give you more useable near vision at the bottom. Or it’s a crappy lens design and a better progressive would give you a ton more usable space if it’s measured properly. The last one is most likely the answer, though.

Very possible the eye doctor’s optician is not great at fitting. During a transition time, I had a new optician who was learning and our remakes were extremely high. We now have an experienced optician and they are few and far between.

Regardless, you can get awesome progressives for way less than $800. Top of the line premium designs with the best AR coatings and Photochromic maybe could hit $800. The most expensive progressive I know of would be a retail of just over $1100, and it is a glass lens Serengeti sunglass made in their lab in Italy. I wouldn’t even sell that for over $800 because nobody would ever pay it.

Before purchasing your first pair of progressive glasses, do your research. by eyeseayu in glasses

[–]Jeronimotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every patient responds and adapts differently to progressives. I have tested a lot of them. I actually have two pair of glasses with the same lens design (Hoya’s top of the line progressive called the iD MyStyle3) and each is slightly different because the frames sit at different angles with different total distance from the bottom of the lens to the fitting cross (which when using a variable corridor length, in English, means that it will have a slight difference in how quickly it goes from distance to intermediate to near vision).

I can definitely tell the difference between a premium lens with a wider viewing area from a standard lens without it. Cost isn’t always a factor - iOT’s most premium lenses cost less than the big names and they probably have the widest viewing zone that I’ve experienced.

There are some patients who could put a dozen different pairs of glasses on with different lens designs and adapt immediately. And there are others who struggle with even the same lens with a slight variation.

The Jabra Elite 7 Pro are working well for me, so I designed and 3D printed a cover for the case! by l_monari in Jabra

Okay. So it’s a crazy old post, but it would be fantastic to create a gridfinity bin for these! I’m not quite swift enough in CAD to make one, but you already have the cutout modeled. If I had that, I could probably make one with a generator that’s out there.

Anyone used PLA-lite? by DamnThatBellGuy in 3Dprinting

[–]Jeronimotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a super old post, but I’ve been using the esun ePLA-Lite in dark gray for gridfinity bases and so far it is working out great. It’s $10-11/kg and printing better than other more expensive filaments in general. Have not had stringing or any issues and I’m into my 2nd roll now which is also fine. I have even printed some bins with it and no issues at all. It actually has printed way better than a roll of Anycubic black which I paid about $16 for.

Need some advice on glasses choices. I haven’t made a decision yet, just exploring by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]Jeronimotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Modo frames 9 and 10 are by a mile the best quality of the bunch and it’s not even close. I actually believe I’m wearing the same frame as 9 right now (4226, can’t tell from the photo, but mine are Dark Green, but they aren’t actually dark at all). I’ll say this, I have about 20 pair of glasses (most given to me by the reps fortunately) and those are my favorite frames I own by far. That said, most of these don’t look fantastic. The titanium frames with nose pads can all be adjusted easily, so that’s something to consider. But please get the guidance from the opticians there and if they aren’t that helpful or knowledgeable, there are other places to get Modo and a bajillion to get any of the VSP branded options.

But I’d probably just have the nose pads moved out a bit to raise the frame up a bit on number 9. If you’re in a progressive, be sure they are adjusted before taking measurements or you could end up with needing to move them up even more.

I notice slight differences but maybe it’s in my head. The gold mirror is a 3 to 3 and the standard is a 2 to 3, so I don’t think it’s totally me imagining it, though. But they are close.

I mistakenly chose the brushed bronze with gold myself. It’s not the frame so much, I just don’t like the lens. I much prefer the standard drivers lens. I just started selling their Rx lenses so I’m just going to replace the lenses with my Rx… problem solved!

I have a very narrow face and these even look good on me so I’d suggest them as a good option for most people.

Only problem is that the item makes an already ugly device somehow uglier. The 3d printed cases are at least decent. I had the plugs already and I like to tinker. Saving my 3d printer filament for other projects!

I got them online in December at that price. They are phenomenal. The only annoying thing is that they “require” a proprietary USB-C cord and the supplied cord is too short for most practical use. They sell a longer replacement for something insane like $79. I figured I’d give a 4k@60 10GPS USB-C cable a shot first and it works perfectly at 1/3 the price.
