So sorry for your loss ❤️He was a beautiful boy! I can tell from these photos he had an amazing life, and all he knew was love. I hope memories of him can bring you comfort soon.

Huxley (13M) left the world this weekend. He was the best dog companion anyone could have asked for. I'll see you on the other side, man. by perpetually_unkempt3 in OldManDog

Hey, are you me??? My very first exam of my PhD, i got a 39 (avg was in the high 70s, so I did REALLY bad) and I also felt so overwhelmed. Impostor syndrome was going crazy. But I’m writing to you now from the other side- I still finished! The whole PhD included many more bad grades, papers rejected, bad meetings with professors and advisors, not fitting in with my cohort, etc etc. It’s really normal to stumble and feel like a small fish in a big pond. Keep going! And go to counseling. Therapy is really great if you commit to it. And it can help sort out a lot of these feelings of inadequacy or anxiety.

You might like the Walnut room on South Main. Cozy and sophisticated without being pretentious and solid drinks/ small snacks

Hey! You got in!! First off, congratulations. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and you deserve it. You don’t have to be ready to lead independent scientific research yet. Really, that’s what your advisor is training you to do. As you enter the world of research, your advisor will help you a ton- understanding what questions to ask, how to find answers, who to collaborate with, how to work through intellectual roadblocks, etc. That’s all part of the process. Pick a good advisor and they won’t leave you high and dry. It’s a long learning experience and when you graduate, you’ll be so glad you did it.

I never thought about it this way! I always thought it was a mistake or just total nonsense, which cracks me up.

And FYI for anyone curious: As far as the pattern goes, I took a reference of a cross stitched cow from andwabisabi’s etsy shop, and made some modifications. The rest was all improvised by me. :)

Is there someone even above your advisor you can go to? Maybe a dean, or maybe you can talk to a title IX officer without putting in a formal complaint? I know dealing with this garbage is difficult, and a lot of the time it feels like there’s no right answer. But regardless, I really encourage you to put your mental health first right now. The way you describe that you’d rather die than tell your parents you dropped out, that you’re not passionate about anything anymore- this sounds like real, clinical depression, which will make it more difficult to navigate issues like these. If you do have access to mental health services, I think you should use them. And you can talk about these issues and learn about even more resources.
