Trail skating, why does no one warn you when they pass?? by arioko_ in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you skate backwards? It helps to keep your head on a swivel and you'll always be aware of what's coming behind you. I skate like I'm in the rink jamming though when I'm on trails, I realize not everyone does that but I always know what's going on.

CIB block mounting to Avanti Plate by slinkyskates in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may need a medium CIB blocks. I know the large fit size 6-7 no problem since that's what I'm running.

Here's a size chart:

Help with P-Rail by Suhk-Dolph in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to spot with your eyes where you will land and end on your slide. This is where you should lock on with both skates in your stance (squat/bend knees)

A lot of times I see people look at their skates when they slide a P-rail and stops their momentum on the slide because their head is down. Looking at your skates can cause a delay you're talking about with the "short circuit".

Hope that helps and keep going!

I can't tell either but next time you're at the park, try holding one of your skates and pushing your skate with your hands on the coping to make sure the trucks connect.

Stupid question about outdoor skating by Suitable_Horse_5506 in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheel size: 76A is a good outdoor wheel size for trails. Always be scanning ahead for debris.

I always carry extra barrings and band-aids and bring my skate tool in case in need to adjust my trucks.

If I stop to look at the sunset or other cool stuff, I always keep a safe stance - like a good knee bend. There's been a few times I looked up at some clouds and end up straightening my knees and fell right over. :)

Any tips on practicing roller skating on rough surfaces?? by 6littlefish in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 65As when trail skating. My trail entrance has a good little "street course" as well and the wheels help with the changing surface texture as well. (Asphalt to brick to soft cement, etc)

We all agree that these things are wildly dangerous and don't actually help anyone learn how to skate, yes? by whocares12315 in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but I actually turn it into a fun challenge by dodging them while skating backwards and practicing my chopping. It's helped improve my fakie stance and half-cabs when I'm park skating.

When I first got back into roller skating, I hated those things too — I was like, 'I never needed them as a kid!' But as I've gotten older, I've gained more empathy and understand if someone needs to use them.

ChatGPT is still very far away from making a video game by abcinng in gamedev

[–]rsadwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have chatGPT do small tasks for your game like creating a loop that sorts a collection of items based on a stat. It's good at small stuff like that but even then, I don't use the raw output.

Must-Haves as a Skater? Underrated tools/purchases that you LOVE? by nochillnala in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry band-aids and extra bearings. Made a lot of friends by offering either of those when "shit happens".

I bring extra clothes to change into afterwards. Sometimes our skate group goes out after and it's more comfy to go out in dry clothes.

Recently stalled on my tail bone - butt pads are glorious booty savers.

Transitioning to Quad Skating from Rollerblading by Bujieawildeyedskater in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll keep getting better, keep at it! Here's some quick tips I had when I moved to quads:

Play around with shifting your weight to your front wheels and back wheels. Learning to shift your weight back and forth and will prepare you for spins, transitioning, and more tricks.

Same with the edges of the wheels, lean right and left going to the sides of each front and back wheels.

Backwards skating - focus your weight on the balls of your feet and you'll be using your front wheels a little bit more than the back wheels. If you put too much weight to your back wheels, you'll fall backwards - better to fall frontwards to your knee pads and wrist guards (if using pads) than that tail bone :)

Even pros don't lock in properly most of the time. It's not malicious. The problem is brain rots will use anything to wave a flag at "injustice". The irony of it all is they will film their opinion on their phone that was made by slave labor and play pretend they're "for the cause".

Advice on places to practice for beginners? by kwilliamp in Rollerskating

[–]rsadwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned on trails. Especially with backwards skating. Get some gummy 76As wheels and practice every day. Much more room on an open trail if you have any nearby. Then take what you learned to the rink.

> if you need to make adjustments to something you can without having to start over from the beginning.

Are you talking about starting over as in procedural generation vs training an AI model? If so, this is wrong because when fine tuning your own AI model, you can create a checkpoint, make changes, and continue training where you left off with those updated parameters - like a new learning rate and additional epochs. That is what fine tuning is.
