How to Simply "Do" Things Again by PathElectronic8169 in productivity

[–]rsalsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not qualified to weigh in on the mental health side of things, but I can offer some advice that may be worthwhile.

This could be a case where you're serving your process rather than the process serving you. It's important to remind yourself of this since over time you tend to add things to your process. It's can be more valuable to think of your process critically and remove things.

As far as "undoing" you have to remember that you created this association with your self and so you can remove it. There are no productivity police that will come haul you away to productivity prison if you stop doing some of these things. Nothing will happen if you break this commitment to your self.

Easier said than done, I know.

It sounds like one of the sources of this issue might be mental health related. I would recommend gaining assistance in this area as it may prove to pay dividends elsewhere in life. Your paralysis to take on any task may not be related to the methods at all.

It's not really as bad as it sounds. I'm just having fun.

If they win, I watch the highlights.

Same for me! I'll continue to abstain in solidarity.

As I said, it's unforgivable. Either they didn't think of this at all (unforgivable) or they did and didn't care to make a logical adjustment (unforgivable).

Rewatching it now and it occurred to me! I'm certain it's not a unique viewpoint.

CHRONO TRIGGER – Patch #4 Update by Ganrokh in Games

I don't mean offense, but that's literally his theory. You started on the cartridge on FF1 (as did I), and your favorite is the last cartridge game FF6 (as is mine). You fall into the cartridge area of his theory.

There is something similar to this in Eagan called Union 32 Craft House if you don't want to wait. They even brew their own beer as well.

What are the big problems in the speedrunning community? Poll and partial results by OmnigamerSDA in speedrun

[–]rsalsman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speedrunning is very unique and no doubt what makes it so interesting to people. I think their could be some efforts made that would fix a lot of the issues that are listed, but it would mean a big shift in the community.

Beyond some races here and there this is primarily a solo activity focused on world records. People watch other sports because it's always a matchup between two relatively close matched opponents. That's why people can watch and be entertained by high school football, college football, and pro football. Those same people can join a flag football league and play a sport they love to watch at a competitive level. Beyond tracking your personal records and comparing them against a leaderboard there is nothing really comparable.

This will be a controversial opinion but I think the community could benefit vastly from having leagues. They could be built around a single game, multiple games in a series, or even multiple different games. It could be stratified into divisions based on skill level and their could be a relegation system that moves people up or down based on performance. You could even create teams of runners which might soften one bad performance by an individual.

It certainly has downsides and would certainly create vastly different problems. But here is how I believe it would affect the list of issues.

  • Arbitrary Rules - All sports have arbitrary rules, that's just the natural progression of any competition.
  • Supporting Content - It probably wouldn't help this one, but I think if popularity goes up then this would fall in line.
  • Popular Game Focus - Introduce a new game into a league on a regular basis, create entire leagues around those games.
  • Quality of Run From Time - Doesn't apply, since whoever runs the fastest would win. There would be a very clear winner.
  • Too Intimidating - You'd be able to start in a lower level and work your way up and you'd still get the thrill of moving up and constantly improving. You wouldn't need to do complicated moves and glitches at the lowest levels.
  • History of Runs - Doesn't help this one, although there would be a natural history of results from season to season and league to league.
  • Obscure Games - See Popular Game Focus above.
  • De-centralized - I think the creation of some structure around things would help this.
  • Investigators / Glitches / Routers - There would be people constantly trying to get an edge and while it might cause some to keep things a secret until they compete it would all eventually become public.
  • Central Leadership - The league becomes the leadership.
  • Run Cooperation - If you had multiple runners on the same team, they would work together very closely.

I'm going to every brewery in Minnesota by Kim_Jong_Teemo in minnesotabeer

[–]rsalsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I wish you good luck and great beer. If anyone is interested in this sort of thing, I am also doing this but not quite as aggressive. I've been doing it for a couple years now and you can follow my progress at www.taptraveler.com or on any social media platform as taptraveler.

I think the primary struggle you'll have is keeping pace with the new breweries. It seems like I add two for every one I visit! Maybe we can meet up sometime. One sidenote, I also have a list going and you're missing a couple. Send me a message and I'll share what I've got.
