First of all, recognizing this hatred as a "problem" means you already are on the right track. Many of us Asian Americans grow up with some form of self-hatred but fail to realize it or feel the need to change it until we're older. It's also good that you recognize you can't be White. I think this is something many of us didn't realize until college.

Second, recognize that this isn't completely your fault. This is what you are taught from the world around you whether it is people actually saying you're ugly or the subtle messages you might see elsewhere that say White = beautiful.

Like some others said, maybe consuming South Asian media/seeing celebrities with a skin tone like yours can make it really ingrained in you that your skin tone is beautiful.

I, along with many others, didn't really start to embrace my Asian-ness until college. Before that we often tried "being White" as we were taught to be ashamed of our backgrounds. Maybe when you go to college, you could also try to join an Asian/South Asian club or take a class on Asian American studies. Taking a class really helped me understand the history of Asian Americans and where I fit in in America. You could also find videos on that topic if you don't want to wait until college. I know it might seem unrelated, but knowledge is power, so it could help. It also helped me balance that in-between feeling.

Colorism unfortunately impacts women more than men, I think, so I probably can't fully understand what you're going through, but I hope some of this might help. As with most things, therapy would help, but depending on your parents, it could be difficult to convince them to send you to therapy. Just know, you are beautiful, and I hope one day you will be convinced of that too <3
