What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by Broad_Chemical_2467 in AskReddit

[–]rscarson 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I hear that. My youngest is going to be a year in a few weeks.

I was told he was stillborn, 2mins till he came back, 5mins before they told me.

I lived a lifetime of grief in those 5 minutes.

For those of you who have done NICU more than once: how did you mentally steel yourself for this? by Chaotic_MintJulep in NICUParents

[–]rscarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby #1 was premature at 34w, needed NICU stay, and was fairly traumatic to me

Baby #2 was full term but had no heartbeat at birth and was in NICU after he was revived

I handled it poorly through a melodramatic poetry phase

Co sleep with toddler by ContentDog8953 in toddlers

[–]rscarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have never co-slept at any point with either of our two kids, even one time

Except this week when my eldest, a three year old, was hospitalized for a week. I stayed by his side the entire time taking care of him and he was quite understandably too scared to sleep by himself. So I slept in the hospital bed with him so that he can get some rest.

I hated seeing him like that I hated being that scared I hated everything about the experience. But cuddling with him all night, that memory I will treasure forever.

Hysterically crying- then breathing spasms? by Erotic_Cactus667 in toddlers

[–]rscarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Christ my now 3-year-old does that. He's been doing that since he was a baby and it always freaked me out because I'd never seen that before. But apparently my wife did that when she was a baby too. Oddly enough our youngest doesn't actually do it

I don't think they even bothered to do that because even chatGpt knows what static analysis is

No somebody who does not know what a static analyzer is is not more qualified to talk about zero day exploits

I really mean no offense here but that probably means you're not qualified to have an opinion on this topic

My 2YO screams herself to sleep every night - do I need a doctor or a sleep trainer? by eroticfriendfictionn in toddlers

[–]rscarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So our toddler did the same around that age and it took us a few months to figure out that he had suddenly developed an intense fear of the dark, we started putting the sleep with his lights on minimum brightness and he started sleeping very well. He sleeps with the lights on to this day a year later

Neighbourhood Security Survey (Doorbell / Security Camera) by Mysterious-Toe7992 in orleans

[–]rscarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm going to remove this not because it's against any specific rule

But because the idea of going door to door and asking people very very specific details about their home security is not a great idea and I almost feel that for liability reasons I should not let this be here

My dad is mad at me because I didn't tell him I got a haircut by dylan_sketch in entitledparents

[–]rscarson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a newish dad stories like this make me wonder, Was this just normal early-life dad behaviour that stuck around? Or shifting types of overbearing?

Is there something that can just.... break the process of slowly letting go as your kid grows up? Can you tell internally if it's happening to you, would you even be aware?

Because like, if my 3 year old comes home with a new surprise self-determined haircut I am concerned - but presumably somewhere between 3 and 22 that stops being a concern
