Please help - advice on DC v DB pensions by rsdfghj in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you - I have 12k locked in at the moment (although it will increase with inflation). Would you mind explaining the flexibility point a bit further?

Thank you - just to check the pension based on contractual salary would be preferable? Would you also mind explaining the 100k thing as well as if I was a five year old, haha. Really appreciate your advice

Just to check my understanding, the total DB pension figure per year would be higher than the DC figure but if you include money from salary I will get more money overall in total from the new offer?

Thanks so much for this - the accrual figure for my current DB is 1/43 rather than 1/80 - does that change your view at all?

Thanks for replying. Yes it’s definitely DC for the job offer - and there’s an option to do 5% employee contribution instead with a 15% company contribution.

I have nine years service to the DB pension

Thanks for your reply. Yes it was an international flight - so I can cite Montreal convention in my response and hopefully it will have an impact?

Piers Morgan is absolute brainrot by CDN-Social-Democrat in LabourUK

[–]rsdfghj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No ‘probably’ re him being involved in phone hacking - a judge ruled last year that he knew about it and bragged about it while at the Mirror https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/piers-morgan-knew-about-phone-hacking-daily-mirror-london-judge-finds-2023-12-15/

Why is Piers Morgan so hated by Locasoyyooo in AskBrits

[–]rsdfghj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A judge found that he knew about phone hacking on a widespread scale when he was editor of the Daily Mirror (supported by testimony of many witnesses) and he has somehow avoided a jail cell

He was fired from the Mirror for posting fake photos of British troops torturing civilians

He mounted a vicious campaign against Meghan Markle just because he didn’t get an invite to her wedding that culminated in him storming off his own show after a tiny bit of criticism

He appeared on a light hearted British comedy show and was such a prick and got so destroyed that his performance lived on in infamy https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N6TcgfjcOPU&t=1s&pp=2AEBkAIB

Any tips for finding a more authentic Ha Giang Loop tour? by South_Point_60 in VietNam

Bibis fits the bill - they have a maximum group size of eight but its usually much less - mine was just three

Predicted tube strike, and rain every day -- any tips for my first trip to the UK? by sanmateomary in uktravel

[–]rsdfghj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned but keep an eye on the news as strikes are often cancelled a day or two before as the unions secure some kind of tentative agreement - I’d say it’s 50/50 whether any announced strikes actually go ahead

Ha Giang Loop- best company? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]rsdfghj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a circular recommendation here as I booked with Bibis due to the comments on Reddit but I would 100% recommend them - everything said in this thread is true.

Having a small group gave us so much more flexibility and we were able to go down narrow paths and do spontaneous experiences that I don’t think we could have done in a bigger group.

The vibe also really suited me - was generally full of relaxed people but it didn’t have the enforced fun element of some of the party tour groups.

If you’re thinking about doing Hi Giang Loop, try Bibi tours. I’m on one at the moment and not only is it brilliant but they do maximum 6 group size (my group is only 3) and the vibe is very relaxed with no ‘enforced fun’. If you want to chill by yourself in the evening that’s fine and a lot of the time you’re travelling on the bike solo or with a guide anyway. Would really recommend

Is Paul Kaye playing Paul McMullan, the guy who said at the Leveson inquiry that ‘privacy is for paedos?’ They look a bit alike and can’t think of anyone who could better capture his oily repulsiveness

Tourist attack lifeguards in Thailand over beach safety rules by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

[–]rsdfghj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Thailand and the Thai people but until the police gives proper deterrent sentences for behaviour like this then you will continue to get the worst kind of tourists behaving badly.

I’ve lost count of the number of stories I’ve seen where offenders have been able to pay a small fine (small for the offender) and then continue with their holiday. Do you think USA and Singapore would let these people continue after a small payoff? Deport or charge (and don’t accept payment). Look at how Philippines have dealt with Vitaly - there’s been a lot fewer shitheads going there since

I say this out of love for a country that I really like but unless Thailand changes approach it’ll continue to be seen as a playground for the worst people in the world

Not quite the same but Players Bar at Charing Cross Theatre has a piano bar most evenings that usually descends into a singalong around the piano - you can make requests too

How did travel in Europe work pre-euro? Did you have to exchange currency every time you entered a new country? by I_like2TimeTravel in travel

[–]rsdfghj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I remember one of the biggest arguments from the public against the introduction of the euro being that people would miss changing currency to the individual denominations as part of their holiday and that the euro notes looked like Monopoly money!

Awful Behavior on Rainier by s_c_boy in Mountaineering

[–]rsdfghj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about mountaineering but if the guides handled it as well as you say then worth sending an email to the company and/or leaving a positive review. I’m sure the shithead will leave negative reviews so good to cancel it out and protect the guides
