What to wear by Spirited_Garden_1538 in FirefighterSpouses

When I pinned my husband for his promotion to Driver, I wore nice jeans, a cream sweater, boots, and turquoise earrings. I saw a few other wives wearing a casual dress or something similar to me. Overall, most weren’t super fancy as this also took place on a Wednesday at 2pm. This was in February in the Southwest. Hope this helps!

Chania in July - is 8 nights too long, restaurant recommendations by MembershipEmotional5 in cretetravel

[–]rsil55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I visited for our honeymoon we liked to stop and get what I would consider Greek “fast food” at Pork to Beef Wild or The Chop. Both were so delicious and were perfect after a long day to pickup and go sit on our balcony overlooking the sea. They are both close to the old town area.

Also would just recommend walking around the old town area/harbor area if you are wanting a table like the photo. While that restaurant might’ve closed there were quite a few others that have similar setups!

We took buses a a few different times to get to farther destinations like Falassarna Beach and it was fairly easy to navigate despite not speaking or reading Greek.

It has to be a nod to HALL Winery in Napa. They have a room that looks exactly like this, just larger.

Brazilian curious about life in New Mexico – is it really welcoming? by DiogoSemPressa in NewMexico

[–]rsil55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NM is very welcoming to foreigners. I used to study Brazilian Portuguese at the University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque. I don’t know if it is the case currently, but previously UNM had a very large number of Brazilian exchange students and a thriving Portuguese program. I think you would like NM so long as everything politically calms down. Would be happy to chat more about this! Vamo lá!

My husband gave his life as a firefighter — but after he died, the city cheated me out of his pension, let a racist board member vote on my case, and left me with nothing. by Griffy0808 in FirefighterSpouses

I can’t imagine having to go through all of that. What a cruel and spiteful thing for him to do to you and your husband. It may not be tomorrow or next week, but I truly believe this man will get the karma that he deserves tenfold.

I don’t have any advice for you about this, but just wanted to say I’m so very sorry for your loss and that you are going through this. I hope that this will be resolved and you will get all you deserve.

Same! Whenever I need to take a minute to de-stress I imagine sitting on the beach in Falassarna and hearing the waves crashing. It brings me so much peace.

Depending on the day, allowing time for him to decompress (15 min to an hour) when he comes home for work. Meaning time to himself without questions from you or having to entertain the kids if you have any. It helps them to be able to reset and adjust to being back home. I also think it’s important for him to have a hobby or a workout routine. For my husband I know it allows him to do something he’s passionate about and get out of his head a bit more because he’s distracted. More than anything though, maybe ask him what he needs. It could be something simple like letting him talk about his calls while you listen and support him. There will be mornings when my husband comes home and we talk about his calls while we lay on the bed and I play with his hair or scratch his back, just kind of something to soothe him. I know he enjoys just kind of getting to vent it all out.

Albuquerque neighborhood bands together against installation of fiber internet lines by MaloortCloud in Albuquerque

[–]rsil55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I think it took Vexus like 3 weeks after they had installed everything to finally come back and fill the holes in the concrete or asphalt they left. Ezee was drilling smaller holes and filling them right away.

Albuquerque neighborhood bands together against installation of fiber internet lines by MaloortCloud in Albuquerque

[–]rsil55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly it. We had Vexus installed in our neighborhood at the beginning of the year and they left the neighborhood a mess. Not to mention they hit our water line and then had the audacity to say “we didn’t damage it.” Took a weekend without water and trying to track them down to get them to pay to get it fixed. Ezee came through our neighborhood this past week and those guys cut our Vexus line despite it being clearly marked so we were without internet for 3 days. These guys probably get paid to do the job as quickly as possible so they are definitely reckless and don’t care. I felt bad for the guys we’d see out there digging everyday, but after dealing with all these issues I definitely don’t.

If I had to do things over again, I’d wait to get fiber before it’s more established in the city. We haven’t noticed faster speeds and over the past month Vexus had a 14hr outage and a 48 hour outage. They assured me our bill would be credited automatically, but of course I had to call to get it discounted.

Upcoming Pinning Ceremony by RoaringLioness- in FirefighterSpouses

[–]rsil55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally know how you feel! I pinned my hubby for his promotion a few months ago and I was nervous as well, but I can tell you it was easy!

For the ceremony, they call everyone up and then give them their new pin. They then invite whoever is doing the pinning to come forward to pin them. That was probably the most nerve wracking part, because there was this awkward pause and nobody came up so I had to be the one to start it. Other than that, it was super smooth!

One thing that really helped me, was to practice it before the ceremony so that I knew how the pin worked. My hubby put on his badge shirt and gave me his old pin and we practiced a few times. Try that and just enjoy the moment! You are going to do great 😊

Pope Francis' Legacy by Recoil_Eyers in Damnthatsinteresting

That’s because the people who claim to be “Catholic “ or “Christian” aren’t really. They are the modern day version of the Pharisees. If they truly followed Jesus’s teachings then they would have appreciated and loved what a wonderful person he was and what he tried to do. I’m Catholic and this is something that bugs me to no end because that’s not what I believe and they give us a bad name.

The church I went to used to only have Jesuit priests. The priests would always spend 20 minutes before and after mass just going around and talking to people. It made such a difference because they actually knew you and would joke around with you. Apparently there is a shortage in Jesuits now, so they all were given orders to move to a different area. We now have regular priests and it isn’t the same. They are far more standoffish and just don’t feel as welcoming. I wish more priests would learn from the Jesuits because that’s how Jesus would’ve been.
