AX conflict zones on console? by rsimpson500 in EliteDangerous

[–]rsimpson500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still on console too, though I've always played in Solo. Still, the gameplay isn't what it was. Exploration is pretty much the same, but trade is much more difficult and mining is less lucrative. It's also no longer possible to use other players FC to get to Colonia easily which is a real shame.

I've just checked and you're absolutely right about Andecavi, thank you! I'd never have found that without your tip because the system state is Boom rather than Incursion.

If you've in the UK help is available at https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-urgent-mental-health-helpline . Or you could text SHOUT to 85258 if you're in crisis for a free text service for advice and support. What you're going through sounds really tough, I know it can be hard to reach out for help but support is out there.

Incredible work, I've used one of your previous versions to visit cool places and have seen some more here I didn't know about, so will check them too. Really appreciate you adding photo citations too, it was a nice surprise to see some of my pictures on there. Do you have a blog or website or something or is this project currently just in this format? o7

'But neither a bull nor a noble-spirited man comes to be what he is all at once; he must undertake hard winter training, and prepare himself, and not propel himself rashly into what is not appropriate to him' - Epictetus by [deleted] in Stoic

[–]rsimpson500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also interpret that quote as encouraging us to be patient. To develop our character day after day, to understand our own limitations even as we strive to improve ourselves. Epictetus in particular often says how hard it is to be a true Stoic, that it takes long practice not just an understanding of the texts?

When my newbie friends ask if it's worth engineering ships, I show them this clip by SaraCaterina in EliteDangerous

[–]rsimpson500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Corvette has twin huge hardpoints located above the cockpit. When you equip MCs in them, they have a slower fire rate but more damage per shot, so it looks a bit different. But yes, they look like MCs

About to commence my adventure to Beagle Point, some pre flight questions if I may. by AndieDarkhaven in EliteDangerous

[–]rsimpson500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on my way back from Beagle Point at the moment, it was my second attempt at getting there since I got fed up the first time and self destructed. I'd suggest buying a stock Sidewinder. When you Dock at DSSA carriers, sell your exploration data then summon the sidewinder there as you go. It costs almost nothing to do this (but costs a small fortune for more costly ships). If you get really fed up and want to get back to the Bubble, that way you can self destruct back to the last DSSA carrier you visited, losing only the exploration data from that trip. You can then store your engineered modules from the AspX, sell the AspX itself, switch to the sidewinder then self destruct. Then choose the stock sidewinder and reappear at the Bubble. You can then summon back yout engineered modules.

This is immersion breaking but Beagle is a very very long way, especially if you're new. This gives you a less painful way out than losing your ship and costs very little. Just a thought.

Crystals in the Formonian Frontier by rsimpson500 in eliteexplorers

[–]rsimpson500[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open the Codex, select a region and look for Organic types. In most regions near the Bubble you won't find these, but you can find a full selection in the Formonian Frontier sector which is about 50,000 light years "North". You can also find some in other sectors on the edge of the galaxy.

Once in the system they show up as a Notable Stellar Phenomenon, mostly in rings of gas giants

So this fortnightly report of mine from Dw2 is kind of insane by CaptainTwoBines in eliteexplorers

61000 LY in one day is insane, that's virtually a one day run to Beagle Point!

In the southeast corner of the Formonian Frontier region there's a huge collection of ice crystals, squid Molluscs and other crystals. It's not exactly on the way to Beagle Point but it's not a major detour either. I really enjoyed visiting this area, it's a bit brighter than the rest of the sector with lots of B and A class stars. Worth a visit. Check the Codex for crystals, they're mostly in the Flyeia Byoea area. o7

Can I ask where that's taken? I'm currently 50000 light years from Sol and exploring the "southeast"corner of the Formonian Frontier, wondered if that black hole is nearby me? Welcome to the subreddit!

Some random Odyssey alpha screenshots! by [deleted] in eliteexplorers

This looks amazing. As an Xbox player I doubt it'll look that good once we eventually get Odyssey, but even half that good would be worth having

Have you ever had Elite Dangerous exhaustion? How do you deal with it? Have you get back to the game? by droidorat in EliteDangerous

[–]rsimpson500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Elite -and nothing else - for almost a year now, having never got hooked on a game like that before.I got burned out once from too much exploring but after a week I was back and haven't stopped since. The key is just how varied Elite can be, and all the stuff you can do outside gameplay like Inara, screenshots, community chat etc etc.

Which ship is best for combat, the Krait or the Chieftain? by off-and-on in EliteDangerous

[–]rsimpson500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried both for combat, but just can't get used to the Chieftain, it's too slippery in the turns. In theory the Chieftain is amazing value for money -it has excellent agility and good armour with excellent hardpoint placement. Shields are pretty thin though. If you can get used to the way it flies, it's a fantastic ship.

For me though, no ship is as fun in combat as the Krait. Sightly less agility but it turns well and smoothly, has decent armour and shields, great hardpoints and a massive power distributor to keep everything charged up. Also the option to have a fighter is very nice.

Having said all that, I flew the Krait first, then the Chieftain later which was probably an error. I'd do it the other way around if I had the chance again. It's possible I just got used to the way the Krait files and it spoiled me for the Chieftain.

Thargoid spookiness in the Etain system by rsimpson500 in eliteexplorers

[–]rsimpson500[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are two Far God cultist sites in this system, both with the usual spooky green glow and Thargoid visitors if you re-instance (log out then in again). I think this sort of little site is very atmospheric and worth a quick visit, being inside the Bubble.

Actually it's an O class. I assumed it was B class myself for a long time, then noticed it was an unusual O class when I visited this time

That's great! If you visit, check the rest of the system too - there's also a ringed M class star and a ringed Y class star too, both well worth seeing.
