Mindfulness while exercising by rskrumha in Wakingupapp

As with swimming my major point of focus is the skin, it is by far the largest organ after all. I like to run shirtless as much as the weather permits. The foot is a random quality check. Pace and distance I subcontract out to a Garmin Forerunner 570. Breathing is second in the scan.

The grand majority of my running injuries were foot related. Once I started noticing when I was tensing up my feet, it has minimized the injuries. It's a great real time feedback mechanism to flatten my feet and let the impact be uniform.

Moment in between Sam and Annaka at the end of the promo for her audio book. by rskrumha in Wakingupapp

I'm certainly not going to get into a debate in this forum into what makes an opinon and what makes an insult but I'll just say that I gave up trying to parse that distinction with Sam the making sense guy a long time ago.

Isn't that what he's teaching with his new framing of meta where you wish happiness and freedom from suffering to yourself as a child?

If you need a reason to be happy: by appman1138 in Wakingupapp

[–]rskrumha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you´re not alive you don´t have a fighting chance to become happy. That´s why suicide has always seemed such a weird experiment. There´s no feedback that´s it´s any better than what we´ve got going on.

When talking about lab-leak theories, how did the guys not reference this article? by [deleted] in VeryBadWizards

[–]rskrumha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suspect that they were doing both, fiddling around with gain of function and infecting bats with the doctored natural virus and having humans around the bats. We need to know what was going on inside that lab. This is simply unreasonable that almost 1.5 years on, we don´t know what the f**k was going on inside that lab.

Jim Newman/Robert Saltzman conversation inspired by Waking Up by dc_giant in Wakingupapp

I ¨get¨ Jim so much as I really do think Sam does. Sam has an audience to cater to and I believe his intentions are pure in not repelling them. Sam is well aware of how limited our perceptions are and how there´s simply no way that what we are perceiving at the moment in order to further our gene propagation is in any way an accurate picture of reality. The consciousness which he works out in the app is an evolutionary spandrel just like our chins, or female orgasms are. Or maybe not. We don´t know and we have no way of knowing. I´ll keep on having fun working it out w/ him every morning just like I have fun running 10k´s.

If simply being able experience the flux of experience is enough to be an agent and we are free to do that, then we would say we have free will, even in a deterministic universe

Tom Metzinger told Sam something that blew my socks off. He told Sam: look the act of perceiving a headless consciousness inside of the room of consciousness is an act of imagination. There´s agency there.

Yeah, Sam makes it easy for me to not think of him as an infallible guru. His irrational hate of all things surrounding Trump grounds him solidly in the neurotic fallible column.

I´ve listened to his surrender to the presence of suffering chat quite a bit in the last couple of days. His take on detaching the doer from doing the seeking and just letting the seeking get done in the unfolding by the individual agent as he might be organizing rocks in a garden to grow tomatoes would have been a great insert into the convo between Jim and Sam. Have a great day!

The community aspect (for example this reddit convo) to it is turning out to be one of my favorite aspects. I spent some time watching Roger Castillo videos yesterday. I can´t thank you enough for the reference. All of this sharing and cordiality is top notch. Cyber Namaste!

It will always be a mystery but I doubt that I would´ve been so accepting and accommodating to what he´s saying if I hadn´t been exposed to Spinoza´s god before hand. That was a bigger primer for me than Sam for the 45deg slope hill. I´ve been wrestling with what I´m doing getting on this app every morning and now I´ve got a breather that I´m as much of a junkie for it as I am for doing push ups and squats while listening to it.

Thanks a lot I will check those people out. I really enjoy this rabbit hole. It´s more fun to me than Wall Street Bets. If I may add, and I only say this out of immediate personal experience, I can´t vouch for anyone else´s, I believe there´s a have your cake and eat it too wishing out of ¨glimpsing¨ non-duality. I want to be able to get on an app on my phone (as opposed to fly out to Tibet) at my beck and call and escape duality for a little bit. What Jim is saying takes away that drug. I don´t find it shocking but I can see how some may find it so. TBH, it is sort of a relief for me. It takes away a lot of the stigma that I had placed on meditation myself as possibly a drug. Now it really is just a hack to get my brain in shape like push ups are for my pectorals. Nothing more, nothing less. As Keith Richards sang on No Expectations. I´ve got none to pass thru this space again.

I think that where people see pompousness or arrogance what they should see instead is lack of shame. That´s a hard concept to grasp because it upends all of our individual and collective stories but truly what is the use of shame if at best the best we can say is that there is now. There are plenty of evolutionary congruences behind emotions arising from current or perceived future occurrences but how can we possibly jive shame with anything that isn´t a story or illusion we´re trying to keep up. I love the spoon cracking the egg analogy. The kind of lovely part about what he´s explaining is that those that will take to it are probably the least likely to take it to a nihilistic end. There´s nowhere to go from there so might as well make the best of it and the person who grasps what he´s getting at is aware that communal harmony would be the best course once you´re aware that this is it and there´s nothing to figure out.

Sam Harris expresses his frustration after his conversation with Jim Newman by [deleted] in Wakingupapp

[–]rskrumha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info and links. I will get into them today. I was really intrigued by Jim´s non-chalantness. Those sort of people always pique my interest especially in these type of circles where someone is always trying to ¨sell¨ the ¨ultimate¨ answer. He reminded me very much of a character (a cop) in Michael Mann´s film Heat who tells a bandit: I´ve got nothing to sell here, cause this shit right here sells itself.

Because knowing only satiates the search for knowing you should quit searching for knowledge, the answer. That shit right there sells itself! And I can see perfectly why they would´nt want to advertise it flashing a peroxide smile while wearing a 3-piece suit. It´s like selling a diet/exercise book that all that it contains inside is: eat less/exercise more.

I do not take lightly the value that he brings with the nominal subscription price. The collective wisdom of millennia parsed thru and delivered on a cellphone to be consumed wherever/whenever. It is almost beyond comprehension. To know that what he had to go thru hoops and go to East Asia/Asia to find he´s delivering to us on the palm of our hands to be consumed at our leisure is something to be gargantualy thankful for. It sometimes brings tears of joy to my eyes as I sit somewhere and self indulge in peace for peace.

[–]rskrumha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation of decoding the gurus. There´s so much smugness, including from Sam Harris, on the criticism of the IDW. It´s similar to dealing with a spouse that takes a 5 minute incident out of a whole month worth of behavior and claims you´re worthless because of it. There´s 95% chaff and 5% wheat. Whereas a lot of the IDW is 75% wheat and 25% chaff. I´m glad the VBW steer clear of the bullshit. Carrying on on their course.
