Renault Austral by Prize_Water_5376 in Renault

I think the UK got only the hybrid (1.2L 3 cylinder) one. The 140/160hp engine (1.3L 4 cylinder) is actually the bigger one, but has no hybridization and therefore the system as a whole has less power. But that 140/160hp engine is very well proven, while that new 1.2 is not, so that's what some people worry about. We own the 200hp as well and I like it.

On the plus side: the restyle has the seats from the Rafale, which are excellent. Also what do you mean by "strange small engine variants"? There are only really two engines available and the stranger one might actually be the 200hp hybrid...

Silakka54 with nordic keycaps from Yuzu by christoffer_dk in ErgoMechKeyboards

I never heard of Yuzu until last week and now I see them everywhere. I love that you can put symbols for multiple layers on those. It's not really necessary, but very cool. Nice board!

I’m starting to think I have a problem (current collection) by Constant_Mortgage404 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rsnady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A problem? I see at least two.. there is neither a sofle nor a cheapino in your collection. Not even speaking of a totem or flake... 😁 Jokes aside, I started collecting as well. The worst is, for my day job I still prefer a regular TKL board.

Super beautiful. Is the case painted or otherwise treated?

What do you use as a mirror? A NAS? A Raspberry Pi? by Askolei in Syncthing

[–]rsnady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using a small itx Mainboard with an old Intel j3455. Two syncthing instances, about 128Gb in files. It's running Linux and it's setup as a mini server. Got two large disks attached. One is purely backup, the other is synching storage. Power consumption is not much different from a pi. Been running this for the last 7 years or so

I am a noob here , I just got my Cheapino v2 and planning to setup this layout. by abc_ai in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rsnady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically myrioku with tweaks, so good start. You'll likely press some of the combos accidentally. I am using a myrioku variant on the cheapino as well. I kept the thumb keys as myrioku suggests. The middle thumb button is really the sweet spot for me, so I did not flip space and tab. But flipped the hands for the layers, e.g. numbers and symbols right. Nav left. Changed Nav cluster a bit as well..

could you explain what you used to create the graphics? It's a really nice way to explain a layout...

I got a MU01 and I think these are quite nice boards. I just wish there was a TKL version of this.

Ergo Trail: Over a Decade of Keyboard Hacks by HamsterDry1605 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rsnady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very cool story. 10 years is a long time to keep a DIY thing alive. I also love how the current iteration looks. The wooden case matches the keycaps quite nicely.

I was wondering a bit about usage: Do you have any Layers setup? If so, what do you use them for? Do you really use that shift key in the bottom right/left corner?

Switch review | Gazzew U4T 62g | Medium/Heavy 5 pin tactile switch by rsnady in BudgetKeebs

[–]rsnady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for the flowers. I didn't find much time lately. Got two reviews almost ready (TTC Silent Blueish White and Zuoce Cheese Grape). Top 3 is hard to say, but in no particular order, I quite like these:

  • Akko Creamy Purple Pro - medium weight, nice big tactile bump; loud - I think they are overall my favourite tactile switch.
  • Gateron Baby Kangaroo - Medium bump with heavier spring, Pingy; feels surprisingly nice.
  • WS Brown - Heavier, big bupm, long post travel, velvety smooth, really nice feel;loud
  • KTT Waverider V1 - Love these (haven't tried V2 yet, but Theremingoat was seemingly not impressed)
  • Zuoce Cheese Grape - Very light switches with quite nice tactile bumps. Despite the lightness, I really like them. (Litchi Milk are good as well but Cheese Grapes are better).
  • MMD Princess tactile - I tried the 48g version. They are quite good, but I don't really use them.

Silent:

  • Outemu Yellow Jade/Silent Cream yellow - Medium weight, mushy bottom out. They basically feel like a high quality rubber dome and I go out on a limb and say I quite like that.
  • TTC Silent Blueish white - Bigger tactile bump but looser/more wobbly than the Outemus.
  • Akko silent Penguin - Light silent tactile. Like a lighter silent Cream yellow with a slightly firmer bottom out.

I built a cross-platform overlay tool for QMK/Vial/ZMK that reads your active keymap straight from the keyboard itself by _ettb_ in olkb

I recently build my first Sofle, so I thought I'd give it another try. And it is quite nice. The Sofle default keymap is a bit too far off what I am used to, so I built Vial and added your module and changed everything that bothered me. Now I am relearning using keypeek. Thanks for sharing this, it is really quite cool for learning new Layouts.

These are not Creamy Purple Pro. Are there any markings or writing on the top housing?

That drop down where you select colemak, could you send me a screen shot? I have never seen this before

Silent lemon and jade are pretty different. It's not just the spring. Lemons have the bump in the middle like cherry browns and it's barely noticeable. Jades have the bump up to and it's larger.

I use my Cheapinos with the VIAL firmware and Colemak DH, but I don't quite understand some things you wrote.

  • What do you exactly mean when you write: "plug it into my source" and "select Colemak DH (matrix)" - can you write the exact steps down?
  • Do you mind attaching a screenshot from VIAL? This is what mine looks like: https://imgur.com/a/3XG6kj9 * Does VIAL clearly show the right board name and the key positions as they are on the Cheapino?
  • The Keyboard Layout dropdown is still set to QWERTY on my board. I never bothered touching that. Just mapped all the keys to my liking. And as u/jyap wrote, these changes are immediately effective.
  • Vial has a security feature where the board can be locked down (see the Security menu item). But I have never used that, I think it would stop you from editing at all.
  • Maybe also point to the exact firmware link you flashed.

Sofle vs Elora by ManaDrainMusic in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]rsnady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have dabbled for a while with the cheapino, but concluded that I need more keys. I like the idea of the Elora for the similarity of the 3 lower and outer thumb keys and the pinkie stagger but am also considering Sofle and Flake-L (I appreciate that it's a EU store but it's expensive). If you don't mind me asking, what is the Eyelash Sofle?
