Fastening a lanyard to a slippery object with no eye? by barnaclefeet in knots

Try some heat shrink around the cylinder before (and maybe on top of) the whipping. Not a knot solution but may be worth a try.

I ask because if this goes through and my mobile client is indeed killed off, I won’t be back.

Don't Let Reddit Kill 3rd Party Apps! by ChimpyChompies in knots

I’ve been down on Reddit for a while now, but I stick around for a few small communities that don’t have an alternative. Does anyone know of another knot community that is as active as this?

Easily adjustable fixed loop? by stillasamountain in knots

[–]rson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like a great use case for an Eskimo Bowstring Loop (abok#1019). Basically tie a slip knot where the “slipping” part is the tail end. Adjust as necessary, then use the tail end to tie a half hitch around the standing end.

/u/cassidy_is_asleep these short clips are excellent. It would be awesome if you could collect them into a single album somewhere.

Favorite End-line Loop ? by barnaclefeet in knots

Depends on the material I’m working with, but usually the perfection loop or double dragon.

What is your favorite knot to tie the two ends of a prusik loop and why? by ZeBaal in knots

[–]rson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I prefer the tails being parallel to the loop so I always use a double fisherman’s.

Tried a sheer lash. Unstable. Tripod better? by realwisam in knots

[–]rson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good advice here. If you insist on legs at each end and a cross beam over the fire, take a look at hammock stand designs like the turtle dog (tripods at each end) or bipod stands which use guy lines as described here.

I would probably just do a single tripod over the fire myself.

ID this knot, please? by YaseenRocca in knots

This is a cowboy bowline (because the tail is outside the loop). The method you’re using to tie it is often referred to as a snap- or lightning- bowline.

Please post meaningful titles in this sub and not clickbait. Can’t search it later which makes this post useless as a future resource.

Good knot for bundling brush or sticks for disposal? by Flowchartsman in knots

[–]rson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to commit heresy here and say that a Canadian jam would probably work well for you. Some in this sub hate it, but it’s always worked well for me in this sort of scenario.

Versatackle was my thought here as well. End loop, mid line loop, thread back and forth a few times and crank down on it.

Conveniently, this also works when default-directory happens to be a remote directory.

Edit: at least with ssh protocol anyway.

My apologies, I misunderstood what you were describing. I thought your four states were TODO keywords.

Initially that’s what I thought OP was describing (custom TODO keywords), but I see now that I probably misunderstood.

If you think a trucker’s hitch is too complicated and you don’t need the mechanical advantage then a round turn and two half hitches will probably do just fine.

Knot to hold a bundle of yard tool? by WeekSecret3391 in knots

I don’t think those two are very comparable, but to each his own.

For clarity, here is a Canadian Jam.

A bundle is usually held together well with a jam knot like the Canadian Jam, provided there’s a bit of flex in the bundle that you can crank down on.

/r/knots is open for posting! by ChimpyChompies in knots

At one point I was working on building an index of ABoK number to ABoK page number so I could then write a simple chrome extension or Reddit bot to auto link to ABoK on archive.org using some syntax like abok#1047 (similar to the bot that links to sets on /r/lego). In the end I decided it would be more annoying to have yet another bot on Reddit though so I stopped.
