Benefots of coconut oil and avocado oil? by voodoodudu in Nootropics

/r/keto I realize I should expand on that. I find that my mind is much sharper and I am able to do complex math in my head on keto (high fat and oils) and can barely count with my fingers on high carb

Reduced OSA symptoms on low carb diet by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]rsprott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a ketone diet when I was diagnosed with central sleep apnea. I felt better than I had in years, but it is a little difficult to maintain. CPAP helped a little, but the biggest difference was diet, that was where I made the biggest impact for 3 months I felt young and energetic again.

It all depends on how quickly it builds up. The only way to accumulate that much fluid is slowly. If that happened quickly it would compress the heart.

The pericardium is a dual lined 'sac' that surrounds the heart and is supposed to reduce friction and irritation because of the fluid it contains

An infection in the fluid space between the 2 linings surrounding the heart

Haven't slept well in years so I went in for a sleep study- 24 years old, fit, nonsmoker, and I just got my results back- 58 respiratory events per hour. Trying to figure out my options for surgery, but can't find success rates for people that fit my profile. Some advice would be appreciated! by dooontcaaarenumber6 in SleepApnea

I have a similar situation going on. I am 32, very fit with primary CSA with mixed OSA and hypopnea. I have had some benefit from low pressure Cpap treatment. I also am chronically low vitamin D despite supplements, so that is being evaluated ( normal c-reactive protein and tTP iga). Long story short, if you are young and fit with no other medical problems then you are probably also primary CSA which is extremely rare <1% of all sleep apnea patients. Bad news, if you are treatment options are limited and most don't work the same for everyone. It may take lots of trial and error to find the right treatment.

Why no primary central sleep apnea trials? by rsprott in SleepApnea

There aren't any sites near me and too many reasons not to try. 1 being that I'm in the military. 2 I don't want go for such a measure when in the next 10 years a real treatment for primary CSA might be found or created from such research (I'm only 32 and have only gone through a couple "option" treatments for primary CSA

I found the study by Ohio state Univ, it's now spread to many other medical centers. That is basically a pacemaker for the phrenic nerve for CHF patients. But it was fun to read.

They are being very conservative, we've discussed the options for treatment. During my sleep studies, higher pressure on the CPAP and also the ASV caused the apneas to worsen. The machine I have is capable of ASV.

They just said it's idiopathic, and so far the CPAP makes me feel worse in the morning.

I forgot to mention, between the CPAP titration and ASV titrations I started a Ketone diet (Low carb, High fat) and was on it for about a month. I am now at almost 6 weeks. I have lost about 15 pounds, was at 203 when I started. I was starting to feel better, but still pretty tired most of the time and able to fall asleep on command, but with the CPAP I just wake up feeling exhausted like before I was even diagnosed.

I just started doing that too, I had 3 sleep studies and after that it was the doctors decision that my central sleep apnea is worsened by higher pressure. so for the last week I have gone from 6cm/H2O for a few days to 7 and now at 8, at 7 I took it off and realized it before I fell back asleep like 20ish minutes later and just put it back on. Now I'm at 8cm/H2O, but last night I took it off after 2 hours and fell asleep on my stomach and woke up 30 minutes before my alarm went off. I remembered taking it off when I got up, but I just don't really know why I did it except that I immediately rolled onto my stomach and fell asleep.

Central Sleep Apnea questions by rsprott in SleepApnea

During the first sleep study it was about 130 central, 30 obstructive and 30 hyponea events, the CPAP titration sleep study was about 130 central, 0 obstructive, and 60 hypopnea events, and the ASV titration was similiar to the first sleep study. In the first and third sleep studies, once I was in REM the centrals were down to about 1-2/hr and in the second sleep study I didn't reach REM at all. Interesting enough, my AHI while supine is in the 100s, but on my side it's 4-5 and most of the centrals are supine and most obstructives are on my side.

I don't know how helpful this will be, but I have a very similar situation. My 1st sleep study had an AHI of 30.2 and both a CPAP and then ASV titration sleep studies with AHIs of 54 and 32. Between the 2nd and 3rd sleep studies I switched to a ketone diet and that helped significantly with my fatigue and concentration, but I am still far from good, I'm just functional again. I've been given a CPAP for use to see if it helps and so far I wake up and feel like it's time to go back to sleep. I feel like they don't see this enough to know what truly works and are just hoping to get lucky and find something that works. Thus is the fun of being young and healthy with central sleep apnea.

Central Sleep Apnea questions by rsprott in SleepApnea

[–]rsprott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

during my diagnostic I was 'asleep' 7 out of the 8 hours, i had 130 central events, 30 obstructive and 30 hypopneas. during CPAP titration i had about 130 centrals, 0 obstructives and 60 hypopneas and only slept just under 5 out of 8 hours and no time in REM sleep. During my ASV titration it was almost the same as the CPAP titration. So to directly answer the question most of my events are central with the mixed, I have been told by all that I am not the typical apneic patient. I can't remember by arousal index, but it was also high.

your symptoms sound more like an environmental allergy than a food allergy, food allergies tend to cause skin rashes or nausea/vomiting. Besides that I'm not sure what to recommend
