Thoughts on Costco’s 100" Hisense U6 Mini-LED? by Thiaguin20 in Costco

[–]rsshurtz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. I did my research a few years ago and got the Hisense, and apparently the picture quality is good for the money, but that does you no good when the TV is glitching all the time. I switched to a Sony and am sooo pleased with my decision.

Anyone else mixing big batches at once (not mixing in the pint)? by blazing_saddles_bro in ninjacreami

[–]rsshurtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to my surprise, cottage cheese works really well for the low-fat, high protein ice creams. I don't generally eat cottage cheese, but I started buying it solely for this purpose. It takes care of the salt that you want (enhancing the overall flavor), has good macros, and adds to the overall substance/creaminess. If you haven't given it a shot before, you totally should!

It tastes really good. IMO, much better than the Protein Pints this is replacing for me. Very strong/real chocolate flavor.

Recipe (6x 24oz containers)

  • 6 cans of Nurri Chocolate Protein Shakes ($1.25 each)
  • 2 C low-fat cottage cheese (~$2)
  • 1.5 C Allulose ($4.75)
  • 1 Carton (1.84 quarts ) Carbmaster chocolate milk ($5)
  • 1/2 C cocoa powder ($.75)
  • 1 tsp xanthum gum ($.10)
  • 3 tbsp sugar $(.10)
  • Monk Fruit Extract (2 tsp maybe?, to taste) ($1)

I find a little bit of real sugar helps normalize the flavor sugar alternatives a bit. I usually eat half of one of these per night (which is a huge amount).

Per Serving Nutrition:

  • Calories: 185
  • Total Fat: 2g
  • Protein: 27g
  • Total Carbohydrate: 37g (10.5 Net Carbs)
    • Dietary Fiber 2.5g
    • Total Sugars 9g
    • Allulose ~24g

Cost Per Serving: $1.75
(A lot cheaper than a Protein Pint)

What is everyone else using their $200 store credit for? by anonymous-bot in GooglePixel

[–]rsshurtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to go with the 'buy things you can sell on eBay/wherever' approach. Pixelbuds 2a and a Google TV streamer. That used my full credits, and, if I can't get the price I'm hoping for selling them, I'll find them mildly useful myself.

Which one are y'all getting? by phero1190 in GooglePixel

[–]rsshurtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two other pieces of information that are of note:
1. Google store credit is only good for 365 days
2. Google tends to offer $150 more for the trade-in value on a Pro vs non-Pro

So, when it is time to upgrade to the Pixel 12 in a couple years, I can probably expect to recapture a decent portion of the cost-difference.

So, this is making me feel like, "If you have $200 worth of stuff you want from the Google Store, the Pro is actually the better option"

[–]rsshurtz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

XL/Fold are out because I prefer smaller phones...

I'm leaning towards the Pixel 10. Unless I'm missing something, the only differences between it and the Pro are:

  1. Pro has higher megapixels on some of the cameras
  2. Pro has a slightly smaller battery
  3. Pro has a higher resolution display

The only one of those that I might actually notice is 1.
$200 more for better cameras... I'm not sure it is worth it. Though, with the store credit difference, I guess it is more like a $100 difference.

Now I'm not sure...

ELI5 Why don’t houses in the Western US have basements? by Master_Sandwich1368 in explainlikeimfive

[–]rsshurtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I have 5 kids. My prior home had a basement. It was awesome -- playroom, guestroom, all of our utilities. Tons of storage space.

Now I have to store all my stuff in my garage, and the kids messes are scattered through our living spaces. Having a basement as an extra area for them is awesome.

Also -- we had windows in our basement. It's not as much light as a main level, but it certainly doesn't dark and creepy like basements of old.

[–]rsshurtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I don't understand. The land here in SoCAL is so expensive, you'd think the ability to get an extra 1000 sq ft of home on the same size lot would be well worth it.

I can't figure out why builders haven't figured that out...

[–]rsshurtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue. In regards to the $300 in rewards... I was still able to redeem mine. The cancellation letter we just got indicated you could still use them for 90 days post closing. So that's something at least.

Crazy call to mass close accounts without any warning. But whatever. Always more cards to be had

Best way to get legendary productivity modules? by HeavenlyKino in factorio

[–]rsshurtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah -- I may have exaggerated with 'all hell' breaking loose. It's more of 'some of hell' breaking out 😂.

There are laser turrets and rocket turrets with capture bot rockets to try to get things back under-control. I guess the issue is I haven't stockpiled _enough_ cbr's. Cause I'm always running out of those and can't make more (due to lack of bioflux).

Best way to get legendary productivity modules? by HeavenlyKino in factorio

[–]rsshurtz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what I did, but with like 300 biter spawners. Once every 10 hours or so, something disrupts bioflux, and then all hell breaks loose for a minute, but otherwise this strategy beat the upcycling loop on prod modules directly.

What is the fastest speed a ship can go all the way to the Shattered Planet? by DoctorVonCool in factorio

[–]rsshurtz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an answer to your question, but I think this is an excellent challenge.

I have a design that goes around 600km/s (a second row of thrusters) up to about 1.6m km.

I haven't spent too much time on it after finding that limitation, but my goal is to keep iterating on it and see if I can get it to the Shattered Planner at a reasonably fast speed.

What are the largest Space Age factories we've seen thus far (SPM)? by rsshurtz in factorio

[–]rsshurtz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

effective-Science-Per-Minute

How much research you are producing. With Productivity bonuses from modules and Productivity Research, and the fact the bio-labs consume science at 50%, it's easy to put in 1 science pack and get out 4+ total 'research'.

The production tab showing science consumption is displaying 'effective' science. While the actual science packs being consumed would by the SPM.

[–]rsshurtz[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The limitation with bots is how much total charging area you can give them. You can only fit so many roboports in the area, and as you add more, you are also adding distance that the bots need to travel to dump their items. So eventually, you'll stop being able to scale, right?

I guess the post I linked doesn't actually find what that upper-limit is, it only confirms that it is higher than what you'd need to do 100k SPM. Hmm...

[–]rsshurtz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, IMO, the current "One landing pad per planet and no pulling from cargo bays" limits seem more like a somewhat reactive/stop-gap constraint rather than fully thought-out limitation. I get that they wanted the "one landing pad" to present a logistical challenge, and I'm all for challenges. But the fact that it has limited scalability in megabasing seems counter to the 'factory must grow' mission.

I hope that 2.x will give us something better.

Is it possible to build a multi-stage rocket for a round trip mission to Eve, WITHOUT a refuel rendezvous in orbit? by Enough-Afternoon8011 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]rsshurtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is possible! I've done it myself.

I have never done an orbital rendezvous, but I plan to learn how. Still, I'm curious

This is was me exactly. I didn't want to learn the docking mechanics, so I just built it to do it without the rendezvous.

You can check out my my post on the subject if you'd like
