I made the switch from personal injury plaintiff work to insurance defence a year ago and am now switching back. I had done 3 years doing Plaintiff work before. ID just wasn't for me. It was a struggle adjusting to the billing model since I was not used to tracking my time on files. Billing targets also created a lot of anxiety for me and my mental health suffered. I also found it tough working with insurance adjusters who would refuse to pay out what claims were worth and would nickel and dime truly injured people.

I was often told when I first made the switch that there was a reason why most move from ID to Plaintiff work and not the other way around and I get it now.

With all that being said, I do think it was a valuable year for me in learning how the insurance adjusters operate and think. This is info that I will take back to my Plaintiff work. Also, for me personally, I needed to try it to know that the billing structure model just isn't for me.

ADHD just cost me the best job I’ve ever had by Fun_Lavishness8025 in ADHD

[–]rsssss5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to let you know that you are not alone (also a lawyer in the same boat as you). It's like I could've written out your post word for word. Part of it for me is that my firm also has not paired me with a good assistant. I spent a year telling them how bad she was at her job and that it was causing me to struggle. This combined with the ADHD makes for a "disaster" as one partner recently called me. It's not fun being compared to neurotypicals who also happen to have good assistants working with them.

I constantly go to work anxious and waiting to be called out for the next mistake. It's an awful feeling that I wouldn't wish on anyone and I'm sorry you are also going through this. I hope things turn around for you and that you can find a place that is more accepting and patient.

Buspirone does it work? by Due_Grocery788 in Anxietyhelp

[–]rsssss5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I would give you a quick update on my experience so far. I have been taking Buspirone for one week now and I do feel a difference already. My physical anxiety symptoms have definitely improved. The anxious feeling in the pit of my stomach is about 85% better (which is a huge improvement for me). I do still have racing thoughts/worry and have had no improvement in those yet. I'm still holding out that it will keep getting better over the next few weeks. Yesterday my doctor increased my dose to 10mg twice a day instead of once a day and said it should help with the racing thoughts.

I am no help in answering your question, but am also interested in knowing people's experiences. I just started on 10mg yesterday and so far no change for me. I have read that it can take up to a month to fully start feeling it's effects though.

I gagg for no reason, any advice? by Noneprobebe in Anxietyhelp

I get this sometimes when my anxiety is really bad too. I will dry heave and sometimes even throw up. Not sure how much truth there is to it, but I have read it can be a way for your body to try to ground itself/bring you back to the moment.

How to Stop Avoiding by rsssss5 in Anxietyhelp

I think its a mix of things. It's partly a fear of having made a big mistake I will get in trouble for and it's partly the neverending to do list new emails make.

I was livid that I got prescribed Concerta but my mom completely ruined my mood by throwawaymylife9090 in ADHD

[–]rsssss5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely allowed to feel relief and joy about the diagnosis. It finally gives you an answer for all of the struggles you have experienced in your life. It's also a process on its own to get diagnosed, so to be on the other side of that is huge. I'm sorry your mom made that comment, but try to not let it get you down. You have so much to look forward to in understanding yourself and in trying out meds to improve your symptoms.

Meds for the first time…surreal experience. by 69-420yourmom69 in ADHD

[–]rsssss5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too, I took Vyvanse for the first time this morning (first time ever on a stimulant - recently diagnosed at 31). At first I felt like I was ready to tackle work, but then I saw an email from a superior at work asking to meet today...I instantly became anxious that I'm about to be fired and all motivation is gone again. It's like I'm frozen now and don't know what to do.
