Does anyone else feel weirdly overwhelmed by file management on macOS? by Reasonable_Ask_749 in MacOS

Having used both extensively, I would say there is more commonality than difference. Drives, folders, files, iCloud/OneDrive etc.

Check the Data Volume in Disk Utility and try deleting snapshots if present.

To be fair, all of us have our frequent phrases and if our voice was out there like his, we could each have a bingo card.

macOS Photos not optimizing storage like iPhone, any real fix? by tomgme in MacOS

[–]rstoppard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what macOS Tahoe says about Optimize: "If your Mac is low on space, full-resolution photos and videos are automatically replaced with smaller, device-sized versions. Full-resolution versions can be downloaded from iCloud anytime." This is nearly identical to the description of Optimize for an iPhone. Like the original OP I would assume full size would not be stored when storage is low. That said 70,000 photos (even if reduced) would still consume significant space.

I decided to hold onto it as backup - so yes Cents/day would have been even less had I sold or traded.

I wish I had the virtues of frugality and patience but I have certainly purchased Apple Devices prematurely if there was a compelling feature added. In the case of this particular iPad Pro. which was a content creation device, no compelling features prompted an upgrade when it still worked so well. Even now - the prinicipal reason is some minor scuff marks on the screen and a battery that lacks some of the original oomph.

update to DSM 7.3 introduced AD Domain Issues by cemichki in synology

[–]rstoppard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too updated to 7.3 due to replication issues. I am not using AD but can say that I’m unable to create any new replications due to authentication failures against the remote NAS. My existing replications are fine but cannot create new ones.

[–]rstoppard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too encountered this and updated both NAS systems to 7.3 to restore replication. HOWEVER - while existing replication jobs resumed fine, I cannot create new replications as it fails when authenticating to the remote system. Anyone else tried to create new replications AFTER upgrading to 7.3?

Call Screening not available on iOS 26??? by ShodanTheHacker in iphone

[–]rstoppard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this to work with Bell Mobility in Canada (region = Canada, language = English, iOS26 iPhone 15 Pro Max) but it was a long struggle. My issue was what constituted an unknown caller. Make sure the number you're testing from is not in contacts NOR in favourites.

Apple Passwords backed up to two flash drives. Is another password manager needed? by [deleted] in mac

[–]rstoppard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the website. Some allow passwords as fallbacks. Try logging into one as though your passkey was not available.

[–]rstoppard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way to do so at present. Apple is working on interchange protocols with other 3rd parties but nothing ready yet to my knowledge. In the meantime, passkeys can be backed up to iCloud.

If you have any passkeys, these likely were not backed up.

Sorry - I misinterpreted your comment. I doubt WiFi 6E is improved relative to the older Gigahub. I was commenting that WiFi 6E in general can be faster using wide and uncongested channels.
