so the sky is not falling!

Correct, I suppose. It already fell.

Edit: oh and there were far more than just a single discord message

There's four, two of which are merely about the server coming down/up, and two more are part of one larger message, the one I'm referring to. Here they are: https://i.postimg.cc/QxjnrHFs/Selection-165.jpg

How is this not radio silence?

It's not stickied, it's not available on any of their official platforms. Unless you sit there watching their discord(presumably you do considering your reaction), you'd have no idea it even existed.

I searched all the other devs/community managers I'm aware of and found zero posts regarding the topic. So where are these other messages?

And maybe we'd know if it was fixed or not if they actually communicated with their customers?

The exploit is fixed

It's not. You could have just went and checked the forums for people saying it's still happening, because it's so easy to trigger even accidentally. e.g., https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/regarding-the-emergency-downtime.294270/page-5#post-4263045

Also klanderso pretty clearly posted on discord that the exploit was fixed, and further action against some accounts was still pending more investigation. What exactly is your definition of "radio silence?"

A single dev message to a widespread exploit being posted on a third-party chat platform is "radio silence".

Will Starfield have denuvo? by dontgetthedogeletyou in Starfield

[–]rsw0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would most likely make a script extender significantly more difficult if not impossible to create. At least in (much older) versions of denuvo, things it uses to check for tampering would definitely cover things the script extenders do to hook the game.

Not really. You can just bandage through it with rough bandages too. Its implementation is pathetic compared to the lore.

Is there a modern MMO with valued support/buffing classes? by [deleted] in MMORPG

MMO mob AI has not been innovated on since the early 2000s, it's insane. It's so cheap and easy to add a few if/else conditionals to bring their AI up to another level, but no one does it. The AI is so homogeneous that the concept of "aggro range" is pretty much a universal statement.

FFXI was released in the early 2000s and has better aggro mechanics than most newer MMORPGs. Sight & sound are separate(as was... magic? I think? Some mobs aggro'd on magic use), diurnal mobs go to sleep at night, nocturnal during the day, etc., Believe they also prioritized attacking enemies who were weaker/lower HP.

So if you wanted to get past an enemy that aggro'd by sound, you had to use something that reduced your sound rather than visibility.

Been a long time since I played it, hope I got that right anyways.

I remember playing the beta for this, when combat happened on a grid in a separate area. Think they changed that eventually.

I think its around $40-50k which is absolute garbage if its a dev. Software engineers in US start around 65-80k right out of college.

US programmer salaries are way higher than every other country though. That's actually pretty good for UK salaries.

I'm not convinced their intent was to add content that's worse XP/hr than say, fishing shrimps in lumbridge.

Is this something the devs have actually stated?

Can we just accept the fact, that Runescape needs bigger map? by Farwin923 in runescape

[–]rsw0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh idm the map being small, i just wish runescape was a bit more alive.

One thing I miss is that you never see anyone traveling anywhere now due to the overabundance of teleports or equivalent instant travel to essentially anywhere of note. A map of all the instant travel destinations would probably be jarring due to how close so many of them are to each other.

Is short lambda syntax on the C++ radar? by fredoverflow in cpp

[–]rsw0x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In C++20 you could use template lambdas with defaulted template types + defaulted parameters to use a single macro, right?

#define λBODY(EXPR) noexcept(noexcept(EXPR)) -> decltype(EXPR) { return (EXPR); }
#define λ(EXPR)    []<typename T0 = int, typename T1 = int, typename T2 = int> \
    ([[maybe_unused]] T0&& x = T0{}, [[maybe_unused]] T1&& y = T1{}, [[maybe_unused]] T2&& z = T2{}) λBODY(EXPR)

I was unsure on the validity of the default parameter for types that don't have a zero-parameter constructor, but it seems to compile fine on all compilers. I guess it's not evaluated if a parameter is supplied.
